Does anyone out there take a medication for PMS? I'm not talking on a daily basis, only during your PMS. I am so irritable, anxious, and upset during my period that I just can't stand myself. I know I'm horrible to my husband and I don't think my poor kids even recognize me during this time. I've gotten to the point of telling them that mom's having a really bad day and to please stay off my nerves, but I'm tired of feeling this way. It only lasts a couple of days and then I'm fine until my next period.
I had taken Effexor in the past but did not like taking it everyday and didn't really feel the need to. When I went off Effexor, I was given a script for Prozac, 2 pill, and I only used 1 of them to combat the withdrawal from the Effexor. During my last period, I decided to take the other Prozac pill I had left and it actually helped quite a bit. I did a little research online and I see that Sarafem, which is actually Prozac, has been used to help with PMS. Has anyone taken this and did it work? Are there any other meds/treatments that have helped anyone else?
I'm not talking about the PMS where you feel a little bloated and edgy. I'm talking about the kind of PMS where you just want to sit down and cry, the kind where you just can't seem to get control of yourself. And the guilt - oh the guilt you feel after. I just can't take it anymore. I know I need to talk to my doctor about it, but I'd prefer to have some knowledge prior to that visit. Anyone else with severe PMS or PPMD?
