I am the great-grandmother of two (they are only one and two and a half years old so they have a bit of a ways to go before starting school)...a nine year old is WAY TOO YOUNG to be alone in a house after school...things are not the way they were when we were kids, neighbors looked out for other children, etc..it only takes a moment for something to happen (god forbid), and you never know who may be hanging around watching these children; there are so many pedophiles/crazies you name it out in this world. Perhaps you can check to see if there is an aftercare program at your child's school, in many communities they have them. Sometimes you even have to be careful if your children are left with relatives. It's a sad fact but when it comes to our babies - we have to be extra careful. If my granddaughter were to leave my great grands alone after school, there would be WWIII for sure!!
