Ours isn't due until July, and since DH is self-employed and pays quarterly tax estimates...

In Reply to: anybody get their stimulus direct deposit yet? - just checking

the "stimulus" is going toward the tax bill. Ironic, huh?

Oh, and if you want to get mad, listen to this. Our former foster son's parents are Korean citizens. They have green cards and are considered permanent residents of the US, but they live in S. Korea. They travel here twice a year but live and work in S. Korea. They do file US tax returns, but they don't make enough there (or they don't report enough!) to actually pay much in taxes. Yet, they are getting a stimulus payment. Now tell me why that's fair?

Self-employed/IC and buying a house?

Ok, here's my story....I've been an IC for 3-1/2 years and an MT for 6. My husband and I are moving to another state and buying a house. The mortgage company wants me to get a letter from the company that I have a contract with stating that I can continue to receive work from them even after I move. My question is, is this normal to request this?? It seems really unprofessional of me to even ask them to write this letter as I'm NOT an employee of this company. The mortgage guy we're dealing with seems very young and doesn't seem to have experience with self-employed people, so I'm wondering if I really need to get this letter or if we should just use a differnet mortgage company? I would really appreciate it if anyone has been in a similar position could let me know if you needed to get this letter as well. FYI: We have excellent credit and have both been gainfully employed since we were teenagers. Thank you!

Rough estimates on boarding pets?
I have a friend (not me, honest!) who needs to board 2 mini-pin/chihuahua mixes and 2 guinea pigs for 12 nights. Any rough estimates on what I should tell her to expect to pay? And, when she tours these places, any ideas what to look for aside from the obvious like cleanliness and such.

Thanks bunches!
I had a grown child and was employed (in this great

Even if you can't pay the entire quarterly tax
owed, I would at least send in something. Are you employed with taxes being withheld? You can also have extra held out for your federal and state for that matter. Even if it is only $20 a check, it would make a big difference.
Anyone out there have their baby's ultrasound and gestational estimates not match?
I'm 7-8 weeks pregnant according to the last menstrual period;  however, at the doctors office on  ultrasound today it appeared that I'm only 5-1/2 to 6 weeks.  The technician thought she saw a yolk sac.  They drew a HCG and will repeat this on Wednesday.  Anyone else have this happen and what was the outcome?  My husband & I are trying to not worry and are focusing on being positive until we find out the lab results on Thursday.
oops...should be *never paid quarterly*

I've never paid and quarterly and never been fined either

any insurance co that pays preventative???
I am seriously thinking of switching from BC/BS as i'm so aggravated that they don't pay for preventative exams/procedures.  You'd think it would be to everyone's advantage to do so.  If you know of a major insurance company that i might look into, please let me know. thanks.
Think about who pays for public school.
People in the local district pay school and property taxes, so they pay for their schools. Or, more precisely, they pay for the young people in their district to be educated, since it's not just parents who pay these taxes.

So, no. Students may not freely transfer to other public districts, because their parents or guardians have not paid taxes in other districts.

In our district, we paid the taxes before we had children. We paid the taxes while our children were growing up, even though our children attended Catholic schools and we paid tuition. Now that our children are grown, we continue to pay taxes. I don't mind paying the taxes, because it's part of my civic duty to help to educate ALL the young people in our community.
I hear you on that one, and it DEFINITELY pays to check out the US educated M.D.'s as
well...some of the horror stories I have heard from OR nurses give one pause to check out any MD before ANY SURGICAL PROCEDURE!
My company pays double time, so I work
4 hours spread out through the day on those days, maybe a few in the morning and then a few at the end of the day.  There is never a shortage of people wanting to make double time on these days.  At the places I have previously worked, we did an every-other-year thing for both these holidays unless people didn't want to work them, and nobody was forced to. If you don't want to work a certain day for religious beliefs, you should state this up front, otherwise ask them their policy and whether or not that is something that would work for you.  You always have a choice not to take that position.
July 4
Unfortunately I am probably working too.  I am in Texas where the rain is keeping us all housebound!   Have fun!

do not go tent camping in Myrtle Beach in July - been there, done that. .
4th of July plans?
What is everyone planning on doing for the 4th?  We will do the typical: cookout with family but this year we are trying some new receipes like turkey burgers and ostrich burgers, and then we will either set of a few fireworks or go to the park to see the professional fireworks.  Either way just really going to enjoy my family even if it rains.
We like to go mid-July generally - sm
that way it is not right after they got out of school and it breaks up the summer. I also take them on my own up to my dad's for a few days at the end of June and again in August; going again up there last week in August as I am too busy to go earlier.
I LOVE my Wii! We have had ours since July
My husband and I are addicted to it. I think we have about 40 games for it now LOL. My husband is a nurse in a psychiatric hospital, and they used them there for a sort of rewards system for good behavior. We can't wait for Wii Fit with the balance board to come out!
I posted this around the 4th of July...sm

>>> One of my dogs has a little bit of a problem with loud noises such as fireworks and thunderstorms. He doesn't get too terribly upset (likes to hide, refuses to go outside for awhile even after it's quieted down), but I happened to read an article about how using peppermint oil on the dog's paw pads helps to really calm them, so I'm going to give it a try this year.

It has to be real peppermint oil (not the kind found in the grocery store in the baking section), so I went to a local health food store and bought a bottle. You put the oil on a cotton pad, then put some on each of the dog's paws. I did a Google search and found a lot of comments from people saying it worked for their dog. (Just type in 'thunderstorms peppermint oil.') >>>

I can tell you, it worked! It lasted for about 3-4 hours. You might want to give it a try. You don't say how young your puppy is, but if he's really young, you might want to check w/your vet just to make sure it's safe to use on a puppy.

There is also some sort of vest that is sold that wraps around the dog and makes them feel secure. I haven't tried that though.

You also want to avoid unintentionally reinforcing the dog's fearful behavior by comforting/petting the dog too much when it's afraid. Just act like it's no big deal, and say positive things like 'You're okay, buddy!' and go on about your business. Also, I haven't looked at the links that the other poster gave you, but there is probably a lot of great info. there on Cesar Millan's (the Dog Whisperer) website. I love him!

Blech! The worst coffee ever. No wonder they're closing stores, who pays for that garbage?

A second to that! Happy Fourth of July....
we live in the greatest country in the world. Regardless of what you think about the war, the president, etc., we are afforded the privilege of being Americans. I certainly don't see people flocking to Mexico, Europe, or Asia to become citizens! Have a wonderful day, no matter what you are doing!
LOL! We got ours at Target back at the end of the July
My husband was at Target one day back in July and called me at home to tell me that they had just gotten a bunch of Wii systems in and asked me if he should get one. I told him to get one because you never know when they will have them again, and we had been wanting to get one! We are both totally addicted to it! We keep going to Gamestop to buy more games, and keep buying games on eBay! LOL!
MTstars, I think it's really nice of you to do Xmas in July.

I agree, and began in JULY!!!...awful now...

though I do cataloging sometimes..........seems more this year than ever....

but you buy from one, they sell your name, lists of names, and is how you get so many......

Sparklers on the 4th of July and also Tin-Can-Alley with all the neighborhood kids.

Wal-Mart does offer health insurance to their workers. Wal-Mart pays part and the employee SM
pays part of the premium.  Just like other companies do.
