*no evidence of a crime occurring, no evidence of illegal drugs, only rx drugs, but we are not revealing whose names were on those bottles.  Investigation remains open until all tests return, but no evidence of a crime occurred.  No trauma found except a minor bruise from the bed a few days ago....no physical injuries found on her, autopsy is now complete.  No determination in cause of death but extensive review of medical records and tests ongoing.  They are still collecting information, lab data, etc., and will take somewhere between 3 and 5 weeks.*

This might be long so please bear with me.  I know there are a lot of animal owners on this board and I really need help. 

I am keeping my parents min. schnauzer while they are on a cruise.  She is a diabetic and has to have insulin shots twice a day.  Normally when my parents are gone for several days they have a house sitter who takes care of the dog, but the last time they were out of town "Abby" had 3 seizures and they ended up coming home early.  the vet thinks the seizures were due to her not eating due to missing her mom.  Also so the house sitter works full-time and is not there during the day to give her her snacks.  She eats 30 mins. before her morning shot and then gets a couple of snacks throughout the day, a hard boiled egg, a couple of pieces of deli chicken, or a little celery and broccoli. 

She eats a mixture of canned food as well as dry dog food.  When I have kept her in the past she would love to eat my dog's food (all dry) but now she won't touch it.  I can't get her to eat any of her regular dog food.  In the past I could sometimes hand feed her and she would eat but now nothing.  My mom really stressed that she needed to eat her dog food especially the dry food even if it is my dog's food.  In the bag of snacks that she sent there was a small chicken breast which we gave her part of for a snack last night.  This morning she wouldn't eat her normal food so I gave her the rest of the chicken breast.  she gobbled that down and then within a minute threw it back up.  We checked her blood sugar, the meter just said "high" and per my mom's instructions we are to still give her a shot and just cut back on her food a little.  This was a little before 8:00 so I just now gave her a hard boiled egg which she ate and kept down. 

I played phone tag with the vet yesterday and he is not in the office yet today. 

I don't know what to do.  As long as she is eating something that seems healthy for her do you think I am doing the right thing? 

I was supposed to go skiing tonight with my family but am staying home with Abby just to be sure she is okay.  There have been no seizures and we have had her since Sunday but parents won't be home until the 21 and I am beginnig to turn into a nervous wreck. 

Any sugggestions are really appreciated.  Thanks!

Hey guys. My hubby is a stubborn, pain-in-the-butt diabetic who has a cellulitis infection in his left leg along the scar line from the vessel harvest for his CABG. I have BEGGED him to see a doctor but he insists his body can beat back this infection on its own. So, I'm not looking for medical advice because I KNOW he should get professional help, but are you guys familiar with such infections that have resolved on their own? Everything I am reading says he needs antibiotics to clear this but I'd love to be wrong in this case. It might keep me from having a nervous breakdown!

Pick out your ham

Pick your favorite mustard.  (I like spicy swedish mustard)

place mustard in bowl about a cup or so (depending on how large your ham is)

add an equal amount of Brown sugar / Diabetics can use splenda

You want a paste that will cling to the ham.  In order to achieve this consistency add pineapple juice to the regular mixture or  diet sprite to the diabetic one and then smear this all over the ham.  Place in pan, cover to keep in moisture and cook according your hams directions.

I like to open it up and pour the juices over the ham.  EVEN IF you dont like mustard you will like this.  Try it it is VUNDERFUL muah lol

right before our 3rd anniversary, so unfortunately didn't get to know her as well as I could have, but she was a very nice lady.  Her husband, on the other hand...well, my FIL has been very generous in some respects and in others, he is just a giant PITA.  He can be so mean sometimes I could just scream.  As he has gotten older, the filter between his brain and his mouth has deteriorated to the point that I think he needs a replacement. 

My husband has an older brother and his sister died 15 years ago .  We all get along well with BIL and his family.  Our one nephew is at our house as much as our own kids, which is great.  I always lived 2 hours away from my cousins. 

My sister also married a great guy and we all go on vacation together with my parents every summer.

I think I'm pretty lucky! 

suddenly at age 70 we were very sad and went through all the emotions of what you said. It took us a couple of days to realize what dad said to us for all those years before we planned a celebration of his life and everything changed the day we planned the memorial. Everybody grieves in different ways. Some cry, some celebrate the life the person lived.

My dad was a jokester and always said when he passed to just put him in a cardboard box and drop him (for years we were told this). He lived his life like he wanted. When we were planning the memorial for him, as we had him cremated, the funeral director must have thought he met the craziest family ever. I went with my mom to pick out an urn for him along with some other family members. Sitting there going through the brochure and just like reading a book I turned to the last page and just started cracking up, laughing so hard I started crying. I start getting kicks under the table, evil eyes from others and weird looks from the funeral director. They all turn to the last page and there on the back page is this dilapidated cardboard box and they all started cracking up with me. By this time everyone is laughing and crying and mom is saying "should I" - she didnt. That was when everything turned for us. Dad was probably looking down at us laughing thinking that we would do it. He was very vocal for years about how he wanted to go and be remembered and it took that one day to realize that for us.

I have 2 sons, one almost 21 and the other 8 y.o. and I can tell you it is not easy.  Some may remember in the old days how some parents would keep their kids in check by scaring the living daylights out of them by telling them stories such as the boogy man, demons, etc.  My Mom tried that several times and I did put my foot down, and respectfully but firmly told her that I didn't want her to do this.  My 8 y.o. also likes to play with me like yours do, and he did try that with Mom one time and I got the same results, "he hit me, your son is disrespectful."  I also told my little one not to "play" with Grandma like he does with me, especially in view of the fact that she does have severe varicose veins all throughout her legs (he calls them the worms on Grandma's legs, but of course never to her face).  She also goes about the fat tummy, etc.  I told her also nicely that those kind of comments even though not meant to degrade, children perceive them very differently than adults.  It has boiled down to the point, that my sons basically doesn't interact much with her.  I understand that as the "oldest" in the house, Mom feels she knows how the house should be "run" and what she says is the "law" but she also has to understand that she has come into a "new family."  Yes, I'm still her daughter and will always love and respect her, and do everything I can for her.  There is just isn't and easy solution.  If you tell the children not to interact too much, then they take it as the kids don't like them or your turning the kids againt them.  If the children get too friendly, then they are disrepectful and have no manners.  Just take it a day at a time, big breaths, inhale and exhale.
