I have been doing oncology for 7 years....and just today I got a report that brought me to tears. There were words about Christmas....and....hospice....and 6 months to live....and I just started bawling....and thought how lucky I was to have my wonderful healthy family.

the doctors I type for are a caring bunch. They really go the extra mile for their patients in terms of treatment, chemo, radiation, and battling the insurance companies. The most horrible thing I see is them writing, begging the insurance company to use a different chemo regimen they say is in the best interest of the patient and the insurance company refuses to provide the coverage as it is too expensive a drug, or not the normal protocol. Yes, chemo does not always work, I have had one lady I have type up several times come back trying everything under the sun, she is just delaying her death but boy do I admire her determination in trying to live but her cancer is so bad and she has exhausted all treatments basically. The thing that gets to me the most is the young/middle aged woman, who finds a lump and puts off going to the doctor as they don't want to know, so they wait a year or more until it starts bothering them, then by the time they finally drag their butt in it is too late, cancer has spread, metastasized, etc. They are toast no matter what they do. I find that upsetting, especially when they have young kids. It is such a waste. The medical field is really amazing and the things that can be treated and cured are phenomenal .
