I don't think you'll find much in the way of shopping or things to do right in Odenton, as it's pretty much rural/residential with a military base, but it's not far from Baltimore and Annapolis; a little farther from DC.
One very interesting place that's quite close to Odenton is Savage Mill on Rte 1. www.savagemill.com
It's an historic old mill site that has been converted to all kinds of small shops - arts and crafts, boutiques, restaurants and an entire floor of antique vendors. You might even find a yarn shop there. Don't miss it!
Arundel Mills is a huge outlet/discount mall just north of Odenton.

Columbia Mall is not far. It's a typical big and very nice mall with a variety of average to upscale stores and restaurants.
Baltimore Inner Harbor (about 20 miles?) has a lot of shops and restaurants, a big aquarium and other sights. Just bring money!
Downtown Annapolis, probably 20 miles in another direction, is also interesting with lots of little shops, the Naval Academy (tours) and restaurants. Again, bring money!
There's a lot to see and do in the general area but you do need a car to get around. If I think of anything else I'll post again. Hope this helps!

There isn't much in Odenton
To find the things you are looking for, you will likely have to go to Annapolis or Columbia or possibly Bowie or Crofton. Odenton is located right next to Ft. Meade, so it tends to have the kinds of business that turn up outside military bases: bars, tattoo parlors, fast food places, pawn shops, payday loan places, and that sort of thing. There are some strip malls with better shops near the residential areas but not enough to keep anyone busy for more than an hour or so.
I don't know anything about what's available in Virginia Beach. Sorry.
Odenton Maryland/Virginia Beach Va info needed.
Hey everyone. Hope you are all doing well.
We are scheduled for a vacation here in the next few weeks (business trip for hubby that we are turning into a vacation), and are going to be in the Odenton, Maryland area and then the Virginia Beach area. If anyone is familiar with those areas, here is what I am curious about.
- In Odenton - book stores, yarn shops, fabric shops, flea markets, etc. Obviously I have to do something to keep myself busy while he works for a couple of days, lol.
- In VA beach, a nice spot to picnic on the beach/near the beach that also has nearby access to a decent public restroom. I know, sounds strange, but I have a health condition....anyhow.
Thanks in advance for info and advice.
