Not originally from the south, so imagine my surprise when I saw them selling - sm

Posted By: ALgirl on 2009-04-21
In Reply to: What foods are native to your area of the country - just curious

Cracklin at a roadside stand!  It was cooking in a huge pot of grease.  I thought I might faint from the smell - beyond description.  Then I noticed it being sold packaged in grocery stores with all kinds of flavorings added.  I cannot recall seeing cracklin sold in the other parts of the country I have lived, but maybe I just never noticed.  All I know is I cannot even stand to look at the bags while waiting to check out at the register.  YUCK!!

Originally from south and you have ate 2 more times than me
as I have never even tried them.
Imagine that day at your local mall. Then just imagine. LOL Why that day are you going? Crazy.

Born in the south, raised in the south, still live here and WHAT?
I do not love fats and butter, never. South Georgia is about as southern as you can get. I do not want to clog my arteries and eat organic as much as I can. You cannot speak for everyone, only yourself.
I live in the south and here a few miles south of Atlanta
it is around 14 this morning. I had to go out but layered clothes, put on socks for a change, headgear and even gloves and have a really good coat with hood but fur on the inside so I was cozy. Supposedly even colder tomorrow.
What a surprise! LOL nm

Well surprise, surprise ! No wonder.

What a surprise (not)
Giving corporate office folk a better insurance deal than the MTs (because they knew they worked us to death and ruined OUR health, vs their own).  Glad I left there then!
Does this surprise you?
I heard on our Texas State News today that the cosmetic industry has seen no slow down in their business. Made we wonder if this has affected you and whether or not you've cut back on your "beauty routine" because of the economic slump? So far, I haven't changed anything...still using the same products I've used for years. How about you?
Note my surprise...
I did not realize we knew each other so well. You seem to know my age, my mortgage amount, what kind of car I drive, the amount of my household income. You should really be in a different profession.
That doesn't surprise me.
It seems like companies try to nickle and dime you with every charge they can get and very often the description they give is not accurate. I used to work in the hotel industry and it was very common there but customers rarely questioned it.
Surprise extra blessing today.
We got out of the house and took Sasha to the dog park. In talking to a couple there, we told them how we lost Misha. The husband blurted out that he remembered Misha. I thought he meant from trips to the dog park, but no, he explained he was a vet tech at NCSU, and had cared for Misha on Christmas Eve. I got to meet and hug a guy that helped Misha get outside for her business and who sat with her and comforted her in her last hours. As the phenobarbital was controlling her health problems, he was soothing her spirit. He thought she was wonderful and he took great care of my baby when I couldn't be there. What a blessing God gave me to know she was cared for that way.
A cheap place on a golf course, that is a surprise - sm
Personally since there is 8 of you expense is not really an issue if you are dividing the cost up between everyone. I'd go for comfort if expense is not an issue. The guys can drive to a golf course if they want to play. Another thing to do is either make a list of pros and cons OR call everyone involved and get them to vote; that way you can say you did a vote and X one; so if they complain they hate it they won't have you to blame, someone has always got to complain about something it seems. Have fun whichever way you decide.
Hi again...I'm originally from NYC...sm

but family lived in S. FL since the late 1960s....I came in 1980...I believe you that you never ate organ meats!  4 million is a big big city in my mind though.....but I know NYC and S. FL are melting pots, so to speak, and have the most diversity (culturally speaking).  My child (now grown) born and raised in S. FL and would never touch liver or any other organ meat for that matter...but then again won't try *new* things either.

I get it about loving beef/pork but lightening up on them today - we learned so much over 30-40 years (raised on beef) that just are not seemingly healthful today.....I eat meat rarely though I will eat it but now when I go out occasionally to a restaurant, I'm choosing fish....mahi mahi for that matter of late and also cooking fish at home now (talapia only so far).  Yummmmmmmmm, that mahi mahi was like eating a steak!!  *laughs*

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving!!

I'm originally from WV too and I now live in VA!!...sm
I was born and raised in a little town called Williamson, WV.  I moved to Salem, VA in 1985 and still call that home.  I am not far from Bluefield.  I am actually going to Williamson this weekend to see my parents.  Small world.
Originally seen in Pt. Pleasant WV I think
I'm really embarrassed that I know that, but I was born in Morgantown. Plus, everyone always asks me about it when they hear where I'm from.
Originally, you said that if your child...
cannot behave in a restaurant, you should not bring him. Believe me, my child has misbehaved in a restaurant a few times and it is embarassing enough without someone like you looking down her nose. I do not take my children to movies, but in line with your (leave them at home) attitude, you could always rent one. Nobody goes to a restaurant or store or anywhere else expecting her child to throw a fit, but sometimes, it does happen.
no, scrapple originally came from Germany....

Site for selling Giftcards?
Does anyone know of a popular site shopping enthusiasts go to purchase giftcards?
I think he did it wrong; even if you are selling a house - sm
or property yourself; any downpayment money is to be put in escrow for the closing. If his buyer had backed out due to a problem with the house (like an undisclosed problem; or a found problem) then he would have had to come back up with their deposit money and refunded them; and if he had already spent it he would have been in a difficult position to come up with the funds. Escrow protects not only the buyer but the seller as well. As for the 10% I have never heard of such a high commission; we did 7 when we sold our house (the standard is 6%) only because my DH knew the realtor (old school friend) and to give him some incentive to sell our house quickly; unfortunately that did not work as it took us 9 months to sell our house (at a loss) which doubled in value about 6 months after we sold it, talk about the unpredictable real estate market.
Selling house, how much taxes will I owe?
Never lived at this property, got in my name about 6 years ago, never had it appraised, the person living there before also did not. My question is how much will I owe on taxes, say on a percentage basis, according to what it sells for? How do I go about figuring this out? Thanks.
I am originally from Iowa so I know whatcha mean.
My sister lives there now and is actually Wiccan. Can you imagine how well THAT goes over? LOL!
Originally it was for crate-training - (sm)
one of my cats who is averse to using her litterbox. In the meantime, my other cat decided this would do very nicely as her own, personal little 'condo', so she took it over. She likes it because everything is right there: Food, bed, water, & litterbox. Not to mention a great view of my birdbath outside! ;)
No when I originally wrote the check

The check was a voided check to Wal-Mart and the Loan company, CNH Capital, knew that and cashed it anyway.  I thought it was illegal for someone cash a check that did not belong to them.

I remember selling them for 35 cents.
Then the year they went up to 50 cents I had to explain to all my neighbors why the price went up.

One year my mom was in charge of ordering and receiving all the cookies for our troop. Our living room was floor to ceiling brown boxes of cookies. What a lot of work to divide all those into each girl's order. My mom said "never again". Ah, memories!
originally Michigan now living in the sm
south. you brought up the other things I was thinking when I posted about Vernors. Saunders hot fudge, Faygo, Stroh's ice cream (use to have a Stroh's ice cream shop by the house back in the 70s when in high school) and those wonderful Better Made potato chips!!!!!!!! Hubby was just in Michigan two weeks ago and brought back a bag. Nothing like em!!!!!!

What part of MI are you from? I am from the Pontiac Waterford area, born and raised!
that's true but back then we had no prez selling us....

I was the originally poster about silly string
what I can remember from the news report was that the silly string is an aerosol can and she was not able to ship it out, but finally someone offered to to help her ship it. I am sure it will be on the news as this just happened within the past few days.
I'm originally from NJ, and I've endured a lot of comments.
If one more person asks me, "Which exit?" I might run him/her over!

And yes, when I was growing up, it was indeed the Garden State. I grew up running through tomato fields and along corn rows. It was wonderful!

I'm originally from Binghamton, but I live in Texas now.

People there are already being tricked into selling their organs (sm)
Did you see that special recently? They are promised a lot of money - which they really need - especially single women there - and they end up getting measly amounts for selling a kidney...it's very sad that people are that desperate for money. We are very fortunate here and need to remember that.
Central WA - 4.09 a gallon. I'm selling my SUV! Anyone interested?

Selling things other than MT equipment, books etc

Does anyone ever post things to sell/trade other than MT items on this site (in the classified)?  I am a wah MT and I am looking at reaching out to some wah MT's who scrapbook as a hobby and would be interested in joining a hostess club I am setting up.  I already have some people signed up and just looking for a few more.  I am on the MB for the cricut website, but trying to reach out to other MT's who like this as well.

Thanks for your help.

A true surrogate is not selling a baby - sm
the woman would be carrying someone else's biological child, most likely because they are not able to physically carry a child for whatever reason. In that case I would have no problem with it. Obviously women who also supply the egg as well as the womb, that is a totally different scenario. I had a friend that considered it, and I believe had I known about selling of eggs I would have done that before I was too old....by the time I heard of that I was 32 and too old and married at that point. But I think I would have seriously considered it in my 20s had I known about it, my life would have turned out a lot differently then I believe--but then I would not have the two great kids I have now which I would not have missed for anything. Everything happens for a reason.
Mega-mother selling her story
Well, today we find out the mega mother of all mothers wants to sell her story for 2 million. Talk shows, baby expert and all offers are being looked at to "tell her story" according to her spokesperson. I am hearing from this person she is very balanced, very happy about all 14. If she tells her story, maybe that will open up new pathways for others to strive for more than 8 at a time. Just think about the possibilities!

Since you're selling the house, I would not go with claw foot
I think the claw foot style appeals only to a certain market, and you want to appeal to as wide a group of potential house buyers as possible. If the claw foot tub is really what you want to live with, then save that style for the house you build for yourselves.

I grew up in an old home with two claw foot tubs. They were huge and comfy, but you have to clean behind them, under then and all around them. Since I was the youngest and smallest, that was my assigned job. Ugh.

We've lived in our current home for 23 years and expect to live here until we die. The house was built in 1915, and we have an enormous tub that was installed in 1922. I love it because it's sleek and built into an alcove. At one point my husband was really bent on ripping it out and putting a claw foot tub in there, saying it would look more authentic. Well, this baby IS authentic. It reminds me of a moving train. It's porcelain over cast iron, and it's not going anywhere. We've had it refinished, and it's beautiful and so lovely to soak in.

My point is, you can look for something along the lines of art deco/noveau which has the classic, stylized, and even sort of old-fashioned look, but still appeals to modern taste as well. (And no cleaning underneath!)
I'm sure a lot of people at the hospital are selling these types of stories
to the tabloid shows and the tabloids. Unfortunately, stories like this sell. Yes, whoever the source is should be fired.
Talk about dating yourself? I remember selling them for 0.75 cents! (nm)

Me, too. I never agree with popular opinion. Same with best-selling books and/or TV shows. nm

I live in TN but originally from Rochester, NY we can't get Zweigles Red or White hotdogs, sm
Genesee Beer, or Grandma Brown's Baked Beans.

In TN they have Moon Pies, Country Ham (WAAAAYYYYYY too salty), and all their vegetables mixed with cheese and covered with breadcrumbs, and fried okra, but the BEST barbecue you could ever taste.
I think you are taking this out of context...I originally asked about my in-laws basically coming ov
and then the issue of locking doors and security gets brought up...why is it you can't post something on these boards without it being blown out of proportion???
LOL! Imagine that!
nm
I can only imagine what you are going..sm
through. I am so sorry to hear that. Lots of hugs from this way too.
I have a 19-year-old son... and I can imagine
never a big fan of hers or anything... but feeling very sad about this
I can only imagine what would happen
to all the animals that would not be adopted because the owners could not afford health insurance. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats, all adopted from shelters. We don't have insurance on them but isn't them living in a loving home a better alternqative then what might have happened to them?
Whoa! Can you imagine??
The owners could have gotten reimbursed by insurance and put in less expensive pipes than copper, but NOOOOO, they wanted to be like that. What losers.
I can't imagine anyone wanting
to be contacted by you.
Imagine the introductions.......and this is Mai Ho.....

OMG!!!! How terrible! I can not imagine...sm
how upset you must be. I wonder what on earth happened to him? That would drive me nuts! Only 2 years old! I am so sorry!!
