No, but..

everyone's experience is different. Some people (myself included) have really extreme symptoms. I'm not calling menopause a disease, & I'm not saying my experience was typical, but I had a terrible time, & the prospect of seeing a doctor with the attitude that I should have been able to deal with my symptoms by taking a bubble bath was the exact reason I never sought treatment -- i.e., I thought I would not be taken seriously. I suffered terribly and needlessly because of that decision, & medication helped me.

So no. Menopause per se is not mental or physical illness, but please don't make the generalization that extreme measures are never called for - It's not fair to those for whom the time is only magical in a remotely intellectual way because the actual experience is so overwhelming.

While I think there is definitely some amount of power in "positive thinking," I'm always wary of the idea that one should be able to think one's maladies away. It has a tinge of "blaming the victim" (please don't jump on this euphemism - I'm just trying to illustrate an attitude here), like people who think anger causes cancer or whatever. And I think ultimately it's misogynistic. To the extent that The Body is representative of the "female" nature of all things, the concept of "mind over matter" is, best case, pretty invalidating; worst case, just another form of repression.
