No Way! Anti-Virus software not going to work.

Posted By: Can detect, but no solution to it so far. on 2009-03-31

Malware creators love to target April Fool's Day with their wares, and the latest worm, called Conficker C, could be one of the most damaging attacks we've seen in years.

Conficker first bubbled up in late 2008 and began making headlines in January as known infections topped 9 million computers. Now in its third variant, Conficker C, the worm has grown incredibly complicated, powerful, and virulent... though no one is quite sure exactly what it will do when D-Day arrives.

Thanks in part to a quarter-million-dollar bounty on the head of the writer of the worm, offered by Microsoft, security researchers are aggressively digging into the worm's code as they attempt to engineer a cure or find the writer before the deadline. What's known so far is that on April 1, all infected computers will come under the control of a master machine located somewhere across the web, at which point anything's possible. Will the zombie machines become denial of service attack pawns, steal personal information, wipe hard drives, or simply manifest more traditional malware pop-ups and extortion-like come-ons designed to sell you phony security software? No one knows.

Conficker is clever in the way it hides its tracks because it uses an enormous number of URLs to communicate with HQ. The first version of Conficker used just 250 addresses each day -- which security researchers and ICANN simply bought and/or disabled -- but Conficker C will up the ante to 50,000 addresses a day when it goes active, a number which simply can't be tracked and disabled by hand.

At this point, you should be extra vigilant about protecting your PC: Patch Windows completely through Windows Update and update your anti-malware software as well. Make sure your antivirus software is actually running too, as Conficker may have disabled it.

Microsoft also offers a free online safety scan here, which should be able to detect all Conficker versions:

for those who are anti-god
you were about to die, would you pray? if you did, wonder who you would pray to?
i'm not anti god, I can't be against something I don't believe in
x
who is Anti-God???!?.....SM

I am a heavy into-God person.  However, the Constitution was written in a secular fashion and GOD is not mentioned in the Constitution.  Our *creator* IS mentioned in the Delaration of Independence, which has absolutely nothing to do with the writing of the Constitution.  It was written in a secular fashion so as to give freedom of religion to anybody and everybody.

Please study up.  I have my own personal relationship with God.....and one should never assume because we don't want somebody like Huckabee *putting God's words into the Constitution" that we are *anti-God*....sheesh.............

have a nice day.....if you so choose to....

software
I believe they make it seem as though you need to buy it. Yes the practice is good if you are able to take that time w/o getting paid.
I think I am anti-gift giving this year

Money is so tight right now I am no sure how I am going to pay my bills this December. I had some unexpected bills come up that needed to be taken care of.   On top of that, I have to come up with X-mas gifts for everyone and they do  not like cheap things.  Their idea of cheap is hand-made and they do not like it.  So that is out.  I just got a part-time job but that is not going to kick in a whole lot of money until closer to the end of the year.

I would like to opt out of gift giving this year but if I suggest it I get the lecture from family members of "what do you do with your money?, what are you spending it on? " and other invasive questions.  The other unforunate thing is I live in the same town with them.

The most inexpensive thing on my niece's list is a brand new cell phone or a brand new MP3 player with a video screen.  She is not careful with these and she has already gone through so many.  To top it all off I have 3 birthdays in December.

I really hate this time of year.

Any suggestions on how to tell them to just buy for them and not for me and let me out of this so-called family time?

Sorry to be so bitter.

Due to software upgrade....
Pages were not loading as usual but it's done now and forums are working fine.

Anyone familiar with scrapbooking software

I love to make scrapbooks.  I am currently working on one a thank you gift to the hostess who allowed us to stay with them on our vacation this past summer.  They are friends of ours and actually took their vacation to vacation with us.  We had a great time in Colorado!

I'm wondering if anyone has used any of the scrapbook softwares that are out.  I think I might try to do it this way to conserve some time.  Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

hard drive & software
I have an older computer I would love to upgrade. My problem is I have company provided Olympus software that I do not have the CD for. I have a newer computer with the software on it as well (I have 2 offices). I would like to either upgrade or retire the older one and even own a newer third computer that I use for other work, but I have to use the old clunker when I am at my second office because I cannot transfer the software, and the distance and time constraints have kept the MTSO from being able provide the CD to be loaded on the new computer.
Do you have your original modem software?

You may have to reinstall it for the computer to recognize the modem.

If you don't have separate modem software, you may have to reinstall Windows. Be sure you back up anything you don't want to lose. You shouldn't lose anything, but just in case....

line counting software
I just read on this site that word has a count function!!! I did not know that. I just spent 89.00 on Wordtraverse software. I am sending it back!
I saw a demo of the software on TV long time ago. sm
there was a slate-like appendage that you could draw on with a pencil-like tool. and then the software did remarkable things, but this was some time ago.

goodle it, research. you're bound to find a site with a demo.

The flu is a virus actually.
One strain of the flu is really tricking people, too. It's worse than a cold, but with mine I never got the fever, just the terrible sore throat, cough, loss of voice, chills and body ache that Advil barely touched. But my doc said it was the same flu all her patients had, and they were confused and waiting to come in and ending up with secondary infections. Some stubborn people were even ending up with pneumonia. Thankfully the flu has peaked here and rates are falling in NC.
Does anyone know if there is a virus going around or flu although I did
get a flu shot.
Knowing about the virus, I would
say no because it just gives a false security and the virus can hibernate so to speak for months before rearing its ugly head. If negative only for you, probably she would think fine and good, can continue on as nothing happened. I don't think teaching her a lesson by a blood test and surely not 1 so soon. I had read about some signs of the virus and saw a huge lymph node on daughter's neck and I probably knew then even before her landing in the hospital with excruciating headaches and high fevers. They asked her to give consent for testing (she was under 21) and hers came back false-positive for several sticks- finally had the most advanced test done and then showed so really the test never showed a positive ever. You know, your daughter might be of age to say whether or not she would have 1 done- check that out first. It was not left up to me to give my yes or no. You know with all the rules and regulations they have now days, things have changed to what it was- a child under 21- you used to give consent, check this out first before rushing into the office. Let me know what you find out- send me an email if you would like. Good luck.
ummm ... there's always a virus going around. nm
nm
It protects becaue the virus is
spread by sexual contact.  If people were monogamous there would be no need for it.  I miss the old days with more morals.
Let us know how you are today, girl! Hopefully just the flu or a virus. nm

FIREWALL/VIRUS PROTECTION
I am going to check out this AVG; First I used Norton, then Norton changed and screwed up my computer (years ago) and then I used McAfee which worked well. Then McAfee changed and I got viruses. Then I got some Vaio computers with Norton. Norton was good. Then, Norton was terrible and five viruses later I changed to the one that comes with my internet service and is free which found 11 viruses and Spyware stuff that Norton could not "see". Then that failed and I got some viruses and now I finally got the unintall program for the free one (which took a week to get for some reason) and I am shopping too. What I want is one that works all the time, easy to use, and especially one that has English speaking 24/7/365 help available without 50- 100.00 dollar fees just to ask a question about the software for which I have already paid good money that is not functioning! This AVG, does it have English speaking persons? Do they help you for free or a small fee?
they are aware of it, not a virus, they fixed it once and are working on it NM
x
Yes, they know and it's fixed. Not virus some Javascript issue.

I had mono or Epstein Barr Virus...sm
which ever you want to call it. Epstein Barr Virus causes mono. I had it in 2003 and I was so sick. Believe it or not, I had it for 1-1/2 years. I was diagnosed after doing extensive bloodwork. I was house bound. I couldn't rarely go anywhere. I was so weak I couldn't get out of bed some days. It was the most awful thing I have ever had. And nothing could be done about it. It just had to kind of wear off. I did take a lot of vitamins toward the end of it and they seemed to help.
Fever blisters caused by herpes virus which stays

Yes - does not work! Hoax if you ask me. MetaboLife doesn't work either.
The only thing that works for me is exercise and eating correctly! No quick fix, unfortunately.
You dont work for them, you work for YOU. If you
x
I TRIED to work, WANTED to work, but
So now I have to scramble for the rest of the week, trying to catch up on what I didn't do today. And of course, working today was in hopes of catching up on whatI didn't do last week. This job is a never-ending hamster-wheel of lunacy.
Everyone has to work once in a while!
Normally in this industry, you are paid an incentive to work "holidays".  When I was in-house, I was offered a day off other than the holiday I worked, which was great.  I was also offered to only work a 4 hour day, in-house.  At home, you should also be given an incentive for those holidays!  Some people think that Martin Luther King Day is more important than Christmas because they may celebrate Kwanzaa.  Some people feel that April Fool's Day is important, so they are willing to work Easter.  It goes on and on...  There will be times in your life when you have to make a choice, "one day off" or a career in the "medical field".  I would have to agree that we are important especially on those holidays. For example, most hospitals and emergent care units are staffed with one doctor, so it should really be only STATs you are typing.  It is hard to "choose" when you want to be "sick".  Hence, our salary!!!!!!!  Most people will work all kinds of crazy schedules to accomodate their own lives, so why be so uptight about working Christmas because your employer requires coverage.  On the other hand, this should be rotated amongst a pool of typists.  I worked with a lady that would always volunteer for Thanksgiving (she had no family), so she could have Christmas off just to make us all mad!  She'd say "well, I've worked the last 10 Thanksgivings, so I deserve Christmas off!  It was so sad!  Hmmmpphh!  :)  Good luck!  Have a nice holiday (no matter how you spend it)!
He did see my dog and work him up sm
and everything came back negative. I'm going to push him more on Tuesday when I call him. I like our vet a lot-have been using him for years with all of my dogs and so far he hasn't steered me wrong. I'm just not sure I want to wait much longer on getting him some medication. The poor little guy suffers so and it just scares the heck out of us. I mean, there isn't anything we can do but hold him and ride it out and just be there when he comes out of it. I just haven't had to deal with anything like this before.
Nah, I do it, too, the more I work, the more I do it.
on vacation, notsomuch!
Does this work?
testing
Both will work actually.
For people who want to learn about something, anything, Google is a great tool.  If you want to get into semantics about it though, personally I have real-life, first-hand experience with these critters called OTTBs.  That stands for off-track thoroughbreds.  They live until their late 20's and sometimes into their 30's and that is rarely taken into consideration by the racing industry, who I feel should kick in a little cash at birth, for every single horse they register with Jockey Club, to ensure that these animals can be cared for, for the rest of their lives.  Oh wait...that would put a crimp in the breeders bottom line though, wouldn't it.
I used to work
with someone who would say the quirkiest things.  got on my nerves.
And I used to work with someone who had
a stick up their rectum and made everyone's lives mundane.
No, not every day and get this- I only work
part-time. She is always available when I want her to come over, can stay the night if I am working later, whenever I want her. You are probably going to start throwing rocks but my pay to her is anywhere from 50-75 dollars a day, depending on what she does, any extra things I have her do like cleaning the closets, putting up seasonal clothes, other than the regular clothes washing and the house cleaning (she does not iron on a regular basis but if I need something special, she would do that)- she used to cook for us but my hubby does that now. I DO NOT want to quit even my part time position- heck my husband might think I had the time to do housework too and ugh!!
Never during work...
I don't get that. They could buy a lot more if they only shopped on the off hours ;)
That might work if
He would actually go. I can only do so much to make him go. He is the most stubborn man in the world!!
It might work
to cover the parts of the couch they are scratching because cats tend to return to the same spot. If you cover the couch completely, they may go under the cover unless it's secured. If you prefer the cats stay completely off the couch, you could use Scat Mats. They give a little shock from a battery when touched.

Good luck. I've declawed cats before to save the furniture, and they never have the same muscle strength in their upper body after they lose the claws. I've switched to dogs because dogs listen, LOL.
I do work for PS and this is the one - sm
operation she does not like doing, says it leaves horrible scars. She does them but shows many before/after pics and actually has the patient talk to others that have had it done before she will do it for them. They go into it with their eyes wide open. So if you do get it re-done be prepared (that is if a Dr. will re-do you anyway).
How did that work
with insurance? I have one in my left armpit that really bugs me because it is so visible when I wear sleevless tops. My doctor told me that insurance would not cover removing it because it would be cosmetic purposes.
They do work, but -
You have to keep replacing them when their nails grow, or sometimes they just come off. I have all mine trained now not to touch the furniture. In fact, in the 25 years I have had cats I have never had a problem with my furniture being ruined (and I even have leather). I have scratching pads (both upright and the ones in the track ball cirle) that I keep supplied with fresh catnip that I grow myself. The cats LOVE it! They want to show me they are using the designated scratching areas because I always praise them when they do. Now, you need to put them in high traffic areas, not squirreled away some place your cats never go. Put them near the furniture, covered with fresh catnip. Then slowly transition the posts to another location, but put it some place the cats can easily get to. I bet it will work. Best of luck to you! :-)
that might work..
I do dearly love this cat and would rather move some place without carpet than get rid of him. The vet says that Maine Coon cats are supposed to be the easiest cat to train, so maybe it would be a matter of putting him in the crate at night until he got used to not having the food?
If you don’t work for MQ
then you are not allowed to post there. I see the posts coming in and I see no harm in asking that question.
Can you work in those?
NM
where do you work or are you an IC

I am just asking because its the opposite for me.  Congratulations though.  That is an accomplishment.

I wish that would work, but
my bank is merging with another bank this week, and they have gotten really strict about not crediting anything to your account after 2 p.m., even through the ATM. Until this week, I could make a deposit through the ATM until 8 p.m. and it was posted the same day. I did a "test" deposit this past Monday after 2 to see if I could trick the account, but it didn't work. I hate bank mergers.

I need overdraft, but I can't do anything about it today. All the offices were closed by the time I realized I was one penny short.

Thanks for the advice and keep the fingers and toes and anything else you can crossed!
Maybe they were getting work done
in the house and moved furniture out for that. Something like getting floors refinished. I worked with a girl who burned down her boyfriend's house because she locked it up tightly after they were working on it. The fumes filled the house and ignited from water heater or something. Besides I think insurance company would notice if there was no burnt furniture in the house.
I used to go to work at 5 but now
in my older years sleep until I wake, part timer, work 12-8 and absolutely love it, so much more energy than when I had to beat the keys 24/7.
Well, that might work for others however
I have the bird feeder sitting in front of my window where I work so I (as well as the furkids) can watch the birds- the squirrels get in a bush next to the feeder and make a flying leap. They don’t fool with going from the bottom up. By the way I feed all animals, be they birds or squirrels so doesnt really matter to me who is eating at what time.
Not sure if this will work -
Slide show of Cedric that DH made.
Maybe, just maybe, this would work -
Maybe you can embarrass them into calling first. Keep your doors locked, including the garage. Next time they show up unexpectedly, you and your husband hurriedly take off all your clothes and put on a robe, mess up your hair and answer the door like that. Then say, oh, sorry, we were just in the middle of something, now is not a good time. Just might work.........
I'm sorry your work is low
Hope it picks up. I'm loving today. All five of my doctors are out today so no work, but I still get paid to do nothing all day.
