Honey, I grew up on the south shore of Long Island, NY in hurricane territory...

ya know how to duck and cover.  I've never been through a major earthquake or a real tsunami yet though.  Hey, there's always time for that.   Cat

I live in New Jersey
About 25 miles from NYC. Can you fly into Newark? it would be easier to get to Jersey City from there. Where in Long Island are you flying to? A lot of transportation around but not sure where in Long Island you are flying to. JFK and LaGuardia are the only other major airports I know about.
The Jersey Devil!
I grew up in South Jersey, and I was told about the Jersey Devil. It's a local legend, and it's a long tale. But if you Google "Jersey Devil" you'll see that this story has some oomph to it! I believed it as a child, and I think I still believe it! In any case, I still get the willies when I'm camping in the Pine Barrens at night!
RE: Wildwood, New Jersey

Our family and our friends and their family are going to Wildwood this summer.  A neighbor told us to stay in Wildwood Crest, but I noticed that staying in plain old Wildwood is a whole lot cheaper.  For those of you who have gone or live in New Jersey, is there really such a big difference between Wildwood and Wildwood Crest.  There will be nine of us and I'm trying to find a rental for the week.  Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Can only remember 1 thing - we would go to the Jersey - sm
shore every summer for vacation since I was a baby; and for years my brothers and parents would tell me that Egg Harbor (we went over it on a bridge) had eggs floating in it, hence the name. Every time we'd cross the bridge I'd be looking for eggs. I believed that for a while (probably 9 or 10), took me a while to figure out they were pulling my leg. They never told us any weird things though; and I don't do it with my kids though my DH does sometimes to my chagrin.
Formerly from Jersey, up there called it stuffing, down here they say dressing - HUH?

Philly/South Jersey accent
I have a Philly accent, though not as pronounced as some. I definitely say "wooder" for "water". But I don't have that over-long "Oh" sound that you hear around Philly. I do say certain phrases that are Philly-distinct. Like, "I'm gone downa shore," which means that I plan on going to the New Jersey seaside. And we tend to say "yiz" for the plural "you", using it the same way as southerners say y'all and New Yorkers say yooze.

Oh! And I do shout out, "Yo!" when I want to get someone's attention.
Anyone live in NY City, Long Island, New Jersey area?

I have a question.  If I fly to Long Island/Islip (Southwest) but really want to get to Jersey City, is there an airport shuttle or bus or something that I could take to Jersey City?  And do you have any idea how much that would cost?  I am not even sure where in Jersey City I need to get, probably a train station.  Local train, not Amtrak, not sure what they call it there, maybe "path" or something like that.

A ballpark idea would be helpful, especially since I am not even sure where I need to get in JC.

TIA!
