Need to get a new scanner

I have an Epson 2580 that I've had for 3 or 4 years, and it has been pretty good but it is going downhill. It scans everything in much darker than it actually is, and if the shape is unusual (round, for example), it will cut off the edges. Sometimes I have to slip something in each side for it to pick up so it will scan the entire thing.
So - what kind of scanner do you have and would you recommend it?
TIA.

scanner
I wrote before but did not come through. If you cannot get it at Staples or not one near you. try www.HSN.com and it is item 404-399. About $99 there also. It does work great. I did a few hundred slides myself.
Suggestions on type of scanner...sm
Does anybody have any suggestions on a good scanner? I have an old Visioneer scanner and on several different occasions I have tried to enlarge a 4 x 6 picture. I do exactly what it says, but I can't get it to print out in the size I want. I don't use the scanner very often, but when I do I would like it to do what I want it to! Thanks.
my microwave has a bar code scanner and it knows
way, way too cool. you just run this little wand of a scanner along the bar code and it knows exactly how many minutes and seconds that particular product needs to be cooked. it also has a function where you can program in unknown, store-brand products to cook for the precise amount of time. made by westinghouse. feels like i should be on a space station with this wonder....
