Looking for recipes to make some fairly easy yet yummy Christmas goodies for gift giving. No heavy baking or long recipes please. Stuff along the lines of snack mixes, that powdered sugar "puppy chow" (I think that's what it's called lol), etc. Stuff that can be made in large batches ahead of time and not needing refrigeration. There are so many great cooks out here..so this is the first place I thought of to get some great ideas. Thanks ahead to all who respond!! :)

Christmas goodies for the neighbors - do you?
This year my goodie bags will revolve around hot cocoa mix. I have 5 neighbors that I take goodies to. Three will get cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, snowman mugs, and a pint of peppermint schnaaps. The other two will get the cocoa mix, marshmallows, and peppermint sticks. Cute cheap mugs if I can find some tomorrow.
Here's the recipe I'm using:
Best Ever Hot Cocoa Mix
This hot cocoa mix can be stored in an air-tight container for 3 months. It uses two unusual ingredients: white chocolate chips that give the cocoa a soft, creamy texture and escalate the chocolate flavor, and the cornstarch in the confectioners' sugar (an ingred added by the maunfacturer to prevent clumping) helps thicken the cocoa.
Makes ~ 20 servings.
3 C non-fat dry milk
2 C confectioners' sugar
1 1/2 C Dutch-processed cocoa powder
1 1/2 C white chocolate chips
1/4 tsp salt
Combine ingreds in a large bowl. Working in two batches, pulse ingreds in food processor until the chocolate is fine ground.
To make hot cocoa, stir 1/3 C mix into 1 C hot milk. Top with mini marshmallows.

Hayseed you brought back the sweetest memory. Had a little lhasa apso named Blondie. One year the tree went up, got decorated, etc. Hours went by with no sign of Blondie. More time passed, no Blondie.. Started calling her name, looking from room to room, then looking outside for her. Nowhere in sight. About 1/2 hour later I just happened to go under the tree and there she was, laying on the green tree shirt and looking up at the lights. She spent about another hour like that and finally came out. It was the sweetest thing I ever saw........

I just feel so bad for you in this situation. I love my two dogs so much that I don't know what I will do without them one day... But I agree with you in the sense that I don't want them suffering or in pain. If something happens to them and they go blind or something like that, that is one thing... but when a pet cannot function anymore and you are only keeping them around cause you don't want to deal with the loss that is entirely different. I feel for both you, your mom, and the dog and I'm sorry you are going through this. I do not think there are right or wrong answers, but just remind her All Dogs go to heaven!!!

Anyone started their Xmas shopping yet?
I was at the mall last night and noticed how every store already has their Christmas decorations up. I hate the Christmas season and love it at the same time. I love the beauty of it and hate the commercialism and stressing about what to buy as gifts. Besides, my kids have everything they could possibly need anyway ! 
jan 2nd? what happened to 12 days of Xmas?....
funny observation in this country....the earlier peeps put up their Christmas stuff, the quicker after Christmas many of them take it all down (not me though). There are 12 days of Christmas which equates to like the 5th or 6th of January, the EPIPHANY!.....so I don't get it when they take it all down the day after New Years.......... 
Everyone I know who puts it all up before Thanksgiving, takes it down either the day after Christmas or the day after New Years....
I keep my stuff up until nearly the 2nd week of January (my birthday *lol*)....

My dad would go out and start up the car to get it all heated, and we'd head out early to get coffee and doughnuts and pick mom up at work on Christmas morning. She always worked Christmas Eve so she could be off on Christmas Day to be with all of us.
There was always lots of snow during Christmastime then and the long drive to the ol' "Hunt Hospital" was always just so beautiful....no traffic, just beautiful back roads with pine boughs heavy with snow hanging over the power lines....

Sorry if this may seem really dumb but I've never done this before - how do you attach the lights to siding on a house around windows and doors? It's not wood siding, it's an older home with aluminum siding.

Since we are so unbelievably broke this year, my 2 children (32 and 17, yes I know 32 years old and still living at home but she is going to school on a full scholarship to be a chemical engineer) are going to get ONE book for Xmas. We are going to a family reunion this weekend and I'm looking for some new ideas for something to take. Not anything too complicated since I work full time at home with 4 kids plus mother-in-law and 2 extra family members will be here tonight from Arizona and staying with us. Can be anything - dessert, side, main etc. Just having a hard time coming up with anything really yummy to feed a big group. Have lots of chicken in the freezer so maybe something down that line. Looking for recipes
Okay - i'm looking for really yummy dinner recipes that are very cost-effective. During the week it's mainly me and my 7-year-old and I'm sick of spaghettios, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets. Hubby is home on weekends but I get tired of making the same things every weekend, not to mention the cost of groceries sometimes makes it difficult to have the "standard" meat, potatoes, veggie, bread dinner! TIA
Looking for recipes for...
microwave candies or relatively foolproof stove-top or oven methods, preferrably ones that have been tested. I typically bake and decorate iced cake-mix cookies and make up gift boxes for neighbors, friends, the mailman, etc., but candies would be a nice addition...fudge, divinity, pralines, nut brittles, killer brownies or anything else you may have in your repertoire would be appreciated.

Also for an added idea take a brick of softened cream cheese and pour some mexican Ro-tel on and serve with chips. Also add some cooked ground sausage to the Velveeta with Ro-tel.
Rotal adn Velveeta are staples in my home and I live in WA and I can buy it at any major grocery store.

Leftover ham recipes?
I had a big spiral ham Christmas Eve buffet but too much other food and a large portion, over half, not touched. I never leave my food out long, asked everyone if they were sure they didn't want more, put it in the fridge with intent to send some home with them but they had so many cookies, etc., to take that they didn't take any. I am going to a party tomorrow and wondered if along with what I am bringing, should I grind some ham up and make a ham salad to be put on nice crackers or rolls? I don't want it to look like I'm pushing leftover ham from Christmas but it will only be the 6th day and it's only the two of us here, so I hate to waste it. I'm not sure if I should just skip the idea or use it up. I don't want to look like an old cheapo.

I bought two Foster Farms Chickens, on sale, not over $5.00, well I got three meals out of those two chickens, cut each up for frying the best parts, made chicken soup with the less desirable parts, back, etc. adding my last frozen pack of tomatoes from DH garden last summer, and other veggies, bow tie pasta, sprinkled with fresh chopped parsley and parmesan, Yummie. The other two packages, one will be oven fried chicken, recipe on breadcrumb container and the other from my Campbell's Soup Cookbook, something or other. Not bad for the price!

My mother used to be the "queen of candy making" until she got Alzheimer's but I never wrote down her recipes if she ever had one; and of course could not remember how she made it or the variations - she just "winged it" and I stirred it because she had severe arthritis in her hands. Hey gang. I've been reading all of your posts about different recipes. I've been married about a year and a half and I'm sad to say that I only have about 10 meals that I know I can make. My problem is...I'm just not creative enough to think up of different things. So, I thought not only as a helpful tool for me, but also for others, could you please post your "go-to" meal for either breakfast, lunch or dinner and lets see how many recipes we can share with each other. My favorite thing to make for dinner is beef stroganoff. I take about a pound of tenderized stew beef and about a 1/4 pound of mushrooms and brown them in a pan. Then I add two packages of McCormick stroganoff mix (I get mine from Safeway) along with 10 ounces of sour cream. I cook this down until it is nice and thick. Then I pour it over egg noodles! SOO SOO SOO good. Pair it with some garlic bread (my husband's specialty) and you're good to go!
Now...lets see what else we can come up with to help each other out (especially me...lol).

Check Oprah for dog food recipes
She had a repeat show on this week about dog training and dog food recipes. She also had an author on, referencing his book on wholesome foods for pets. I would check her website out for sure. I know we have been scared for our dogs after the recent pet food scare. Our vet previously had recommended feeding our dogs plain hamburger and rice. They love it, but we don't feed them that all the time.
Ideas and recipes all sound good...
Now I have to make up my mind which to try tonight! That is a nice dilemma to have.
