Neat story! My husband called me last night on my cell to tell me sm

that some baby birds were inside my huge wreath on our front door. He asked me if I knew that and I said I had no clue!

Curiosity got the best of me and this morning I went and checked them out. There were 3 of them - so tiny and sweet inside a perfectly circled nest. No momma in sight. I made sure. I snapped some photos from about 5 feet away and everytime they "saw" me they played dead! They would close their eyes and put their heads to the sides. It scared me at first.

Then I came in and heard them yelling again. I think it's so sweet even though my wreath is pretty much ruined now. I don't care. I love having them there. I pray a cat doesn't get them on the front porch when they finally fly...

I ruminated about being called low class last night....

and actually went to bed tossing and turning because I felt pretty crappy after reading that.  I felt sad and then I felt tweeked for letting two little words upset me like that.

I simply try to bring a little humor to the table...sometimes it's light humor, sometimes dark, sometimes just plain icky.  If I can make someone forget about their problems for just a minute or two, well that makes me happy.  I would never ever put someone down the way you did, and I feel good about knowing that about me.  So poop on you....you meanie.

Last night on TLC (I think) they ran the story again of the dear SM

woman from Georgia whose mother-in-law, husband, and two sons were afflicted with Hungtinton's disease. She broke promises to her husband and sons by placing them in nursing homes because she could no longer care for them. She shot both sons at the nursing home out of love and compassion. At the end of the show this time they reported that her youngest son is now also diagnosed with this dreaded disease.

There is a suspicion my father had it, too. It is a terrible disease and the story just broke my heart. She is out of prison now, but the youngest son has a daughter. They are obviously afraid this young girl will eventually be diagnosed with it, too. They attributed my father's twitching, etc. to meds for Parkinson's disease, but there was also suspicion that he may have had Huntington's.

I watched a show called The Falling Man last night on Discovery, SM
a show about one of the people who jumped from the World Trade Center. Very moving.
Caught him when her husband called my house to ask for her -
My husband introduced me to J. We became good friends. When I was working and could no go places, she and her son would go with my husband and my children. We stayed at each other's houses all the time, went places together (me and her/us and her). I noticed her husband never would do anything with us or hang out, but she said he was just antisocial. Eventually she and her husband moved away because of a transfer and me and my husband separated. Then one day her husband called and asked me to speak to J. Long story short, my husband and her had been seeing each other even before he introduced us to be friends and her husband thought that I was just a front and not really married to my husband but was just a third wheel willing to cover so that they could be together whenever they wanted to hang out...
Yeah it is pretty horrible, my husband's parents called -sm
here in a panic to see where he was working today (he works all over and 2 weeks ago was at VT). He was at Univ. of VA in Charlottesville yesterday which was good to know. I feel bad for the families whose lives have been affected by this senseless tragedy, it is truly amazing how life can change in a split second because of something beyond your control.
Um..it was my ex-husband's story, not mine. I just retold it.

Reminds me of a story about my deceased husband
We had his grandchildren staying at our home and what a handful, 3 of them, ages 13, 8 and 10. The 10 year old was acting out and threatened to call the police on his g'father (my hubby) when the g'father had done nothing for him to say that. The g'father told him go ahead but he would make the kid wish 1000 times he had never picked up the phone to call in the first place. That seemed to work pretty well as the kid just looked at the phone and did not make that call.
My husband and I watched part of it last night.
Very fascinating and horrifying, as you said. The footage they have is just amazing.
A cute little article/story my husband just wrote that I wanted to share!

Layoffs in the North Pole

Story by Bill Perkins

In a press release this morning Santa Claus announced the layoff of nearly 800,000 elf employees. The announcement was completely unexpected despite the current economic situation.

Due to the failing economy, and many companies cutting costs wherever they can, including advertising, Mr. Claus has lost several endorsement jobs.

Mr. Claus is seeking government aid, requesting his own bailout package from several different governments. However, he is meeting a great deal of resistance. Many toymakers and distributors, namely Walmart, Playskool, and the Chinese government, are lobbying against the bailout. They say Santa's "Free Toy for Every Child" program is a seasonal monopoly, and it generally takes four months to recover the losses sustained from his "good deeds."

Children across the globe will feel the impact this Christmas, particularly the naughty ones. Traditionally, naughty children receive lumps of coal from Santa on Christmas. Mr. Claus has no coal to give, though, as it was part of the elves' severance packages. It is Santa's hope that it will at least be enough to keep his former employees warm through the winter.

When asked if there was any hope of the elves returning to work next year, Santa replied, "It doesn't look very promising. The elves are like family to me; I love them all very dearly. Unfortunately, illegal immigrants work for a lot less, and I don't have to provide benefits, so that's probably what I'll have to do. It was a difficult decision to make, but it's necessary if I want to keep the business in operation."

The elves aren't the only ones hurting. The reindeer are suffering a great deal more. Mr. Claus has had to auction off much of his breeding stock just to stay operational until Christmas Eve. (See related story on page 5, "McDonald's Debuts new Christmas Menu.) It is questionable at this point how much longer Santa will be able to make his annual flight.

Could this be the beginning of the end of Santa Claus? Only time will tell for sure.

That was really neat. Thanks for sharing.

My neat new find...
I had been looking all over for some unique jewelry for my daughter but could never find anything, then happened to stumble upon a children's jewelry line on the Internet called Sassibella.  The pieces are gorgeous, colorful and unique.  The bracelet just came today and it is even more beautiful than in the photo!  My daughter is just going to love it.  Just had to share this, to any mom out there who might be looking for girls' fashion accessories that aren't cookie cutter.  She also sends the jewelry in a beautiful decorated gift box, which I now have to see if I can put back together before my daughter sees it!
Wow are you neat. - Very nice. - NM

Neat Idea (at least I thought so)
This year my aunt, who happens to have been my best friend before she married my uncle, gave me this great idea. When she sees something she likes, say in a catalogue or somthing, she circles it or writes it on her list. This way her husband, my uncle, has a list of things that are EXACTLY what she wants. He does the same thing for her. That way they get what they want and they have been doing this, and very hapily, for 5 years now. Most of the time men just have NO CLUE. And, thoughtfulness has never meant as much to men as it does to women. Thus, many fights about why they are not "romantic". I know that I feel second class to my husband's computers and all that is entailed, but when I was in the hospital last year and had to undergo surgery he actually cried! Men are famous for "taking their wives for granted."
Hope you have a better new year!!
nope :( but that email was neat! I got it too
x
Sorry Skategirl, but I'm a neat freak......
My desk is nice and neat though I can't take a picture to prove it. HA! HA! Thanks for the picture. If you clean your desk a little, you might be able to type faster. Just kidding!! Have a good day!
Vet called before and after surgery, and assistant called this
this afternoon. I cant wait to see her. She has only been gone for 1 day and as one lady stated, the house is empty. Working from home, I have become quite attached to her and her to me. Thanks for all the well wishes and Boo Boo Kitty thanks you too !!
And Thursday night is safer than Friday night - how?
We used to live in a town that was once in the Guiness Book of World Records for number of churches per capita (which by the way was the worst place I've ever lived - discourteous, Nazi schools, etc.), and they wouldn't let us trick or treat on Sundays. Ridiculous! People can say what they want but celebrating Halloween doesn't make you a devil worshiper! Just my 2 cents!
I only use a cell. It got to
where I figured I was paying for a home phone for no reason, as most people were calling on our cells anyway!
Actually I am considering just using cell...sm
I am considering the cell phone as my primary phone. My husband also has one and there is no use really in having a house phone and cell phones. My cell talks perfectly fine here. Bellsouth offers DSL now w/out a phone line too. So I may very well do that.
Thanks for your advice. :)
I have Verizon cell and
they do not offer any discount at all.  I pay $180 a month for both.
I had it on my cell phone too! lol
x
How many of you use only a cell phone? sm
We're going totally wireless in our house next week after our alarm company converts our system to a radio one.  The cell companies in our area have finally gotten the offers down to where it's cheaper to go cellular exclusively than pay a cell and regular phone bill.  What about you?
cell phone
My family and I (husband and two teenagers) all have our own cell phones. In a dire emergency of no power, our car will accommodate an attachable adaptor for the cell phones to recharge. It made things simpler, and no extra added bill from a phone company. It has been this way for over three years now.
cell phone
I have 4 phones on my bill. We pay $9.00/month extra for unlimited texting for my son, otherwise our bill would probably be that high. Our bill with 4 phones and extra for the texting is $90.
What is your cell phone co.? I'm shopping around sm
Our family uses TracFone.  My daughter is trying to convince me to go to something different.  I need to keep costs down, but would like any info on  something that includes texting and some free anytime calls.  What are your experiences and what does it cost you a month for a family plan?  Thanks.
Cell phone arguments
I was in line behind a woman who was talking to her child on her cell phone.  She said she would be home about 10 minutes, could she talk to Daddy?  Daddy got on the phone and she proceeded to rip him a new one rather loudly in a matter of seconds.  Really see no need to air that kind of thing in public.
I also use Tracfone as an emergency cell. sm
I use about 120 minutes every 3 months, average $10 a month. Occasionally out of my area I have to use double minutes, but I find it to be a great and uncomplicated service for my use. Have had it for a year. My DH also has one. He uses 400 minutes a month ($100), but he talks to everyone constantly. His choice.
Do you think that when Paris heard cell sm
she was thinking "OH, at least I get to keep my phone" Lol
Looking for cell phones you no longer need...

Hi!  My church is collecting cell phones as a fundraiser.  If you have an unused cell phone lying around that you would like to get rid of, please let me know!  Just let me know what the brand, model number, phone co used for and I will let you know if that is one that is on the list.  I will pay for the shipping to get it here!

Thanks a zillion!

kids and cell phones

Both my sons got their own cells phones when they went to college and I suggested they get the prepaid type....When their minutes ran out they were outta luck....They learned to budget their money pretty quickly though.   Both worked and went to school.  It also taught them that there's no such thing as a free ride in this world.

Teenagers and Cell Phones
We plan on getting our 13-year-old daughter a cell phone for Christmas. She does a lot of afterschool activities and I want her to be able to reach us at all times. But we're getting her the prepaid trac phone. We already told her, don't expect a fancy phone with a camera and texting capabilities (you can text with the trac phones, but it just takes away your time). If she doesn't accept that, then no cell phone. My husband had a friend at work whose daughter's cell phone bill was $600 one month. I can see that happening with a teenaged daughter.
Are you sure it was him? Does someone else have access to the cell phone?
.
it is awfully peculiar that he used your cell phone..sm
No offense, but he either purposely wanted you to see this or is extremely moronic. I think you deserve better. That is not what someone does to their significant other if they truly love them.
Close down the cell phone
I bought a cell phone from Radio Shack. It's pay as you go. I'd play innocent to him and say...oh no, someone must have gotten a hold of our phone number because there is over $150 of charges to some phone sex place. Then tell him your going to the police to fill out a fraud report. If he then admits to it you should tell him that if he wants to do that (call sex places) fine, but he should respect you enough to tell you about it. Then I'd have a serious conversation about our future together and then tell him if he wants to continue to buy his own cell phone with pay as you go and he can work the extra hours to pay for the bill.
Our high schools here all have a no cell
phone policy. First time, the parent comes to pick it up. After that the school keeps it until the end of the year. No reason for them to have cell phones turned on during classes is the way I see it. Before and after school is fine, but not during. My daughter's middle school also has no cell phone policy. Even if they are in their lockers and ring, they are taken away.

One school in a neighboring county was confiscating them and giving them away. The parents there filed a law suit and they now keep them, but the student loses it until the end of the year.
Cell phone as a modem

I'm moving and won't have a home phone with DSL for a month so I'm about to buy a Blackberry Pearl so I can use it as a modem and tether it to my laptop for downloading sound files and then uploading my work.  I've about gone insane in the details so I'm looking for anyone who has done this and can confirm for me that it works.

My cell phone provider has told me this will work.

Can anyone recommend a cell phone - sm
plan, one number, two phones if that exists, or a 2-phone plan, 2 numbers? That is not outrageous in cost.  Thinking of eliminating home phone at $65 a month just for the line, extended local calling and unlimited LD, just keeps going up, was $50 a few years ago.  In a rural area so really don't have any choices out here.  So figured we could get a plan with 2 phones, one for me, one for my husband, just don't know how that works.  Did a little looking on line and cheapest I could find was about $70 a month, which obviously is not what I am looking for.  Prefer to find something for $40-$50 a month, may 500 minutes unlimited calling at all times a month, don't need much as we are not on the phone that much.  Just had Verizon put a tracer on the home phone so I can track how much LD we actually use and if it would be more feasible to just go back to a pay-by-min plan and ixney the unlimited LD.  I think we can save a lot that way.  Probaby have to give up the caller ID but so be it.  We may be able to get away with a 1 phone plan as my DH has a company cell phone for which I could call him on if he was at home and I was at work.  Just cancelled my 2nd line as I was not using it much anymore for work so that will save us $30 a month right there.  Just trying to pince a few pennies here and there.
I still pay for my daughter's (20) cell phone,
however she pays for texting. She also makes her own car payment and pays her insurance (she is on my policy). SHe is a full time college student only working part-time, so she does not pay rent.
I had the same thing the night before...last night though (sm)
made teriyaki chicken and macaroni and cheese from a box. Tonight is chicken and rice. Tomorrow night is leftover teriyaki chicken :-)
every prisoner becomes *conditioned* to his cell in time--sm
sorry Hayseed. as much as I like you and your responses, I still do not agree with crating. This is just my opinion, but to me, there are always other options than caging an animal to comply with human wishes.
People talking on cell phones while having
dinner in a restaurant. I realize some people have to take calls, but just get up and leave the table.
I HATE CELL PHONE USAGE TOO....sm

the bane of the world - that fricken fracken cell phone - one day I had to listen to a stranger describing the bowel habits of his dog....HATE THIS GADGET........

I would like to have a cell that carries the minutes over because I wont be using it much but
I dont believe Verizon carries their over.  I do want a company with good sound and no dropped calls.
DH has Garmin mobile on his cell phone - sm
In my opinion, this is the best service he has ever gotten.  We had the Garmin on going through Atlanta at 7:30 a.m. (traffic nightmare), and the Garmin got us through in record time by avoiding the crowded areas.  It took us a little while to figure out the lady's voice was saying "follow route" and not "turn around" and to figure out she was saying "recalculating" when we over-shot our exits (which is really great about this service...it follows you around and corrects when you screw up).
Have used only cell phones for probably a couple of years.
Saves us about $80-85 a month.
withheld cell phone calls
my son keeps getting crank calls on his cell phone all the time.  I called ATT and they say there is no way to tell who it is.  How can I find out.  I know it has to be one of his friends.  Now he is actually getting weird messages.  Any ideas??  Thanks
reverse cell phone look up service -- sm
but you have to pay to find out. It is possible though and if it is such a nuisance, it would be worth the meeger cost to put an end to it.
Can you do an anonymous call rejection on the cell? nm
nm
you are KIDDING...my child is going to have a cell no matter what
that hit our high school. My son was only 8 at the time but by the time he is a teen, especially when he starts driving he WILL have a phone. I couldn't imaging a tragedy like Columbine or the tornado hitting our town and my child NOT having a phone to get in touch with us. I understand they don't want it ringing but it sounds like an invasion of privacy by cell phone nazis.
