My little brother suffered from severe migraines.

Posted By: luv2type on 2007-03-28
In Reply to: Migraines - Mom of 5-year-old with migraines

Finally when my Mom took him for an eye exam, he apparently had terrible vision.  He would vomit and needed to be in the dark.  Have you had her eyes examined as of late?  Worth a short.  Also, if these continue, you may want to have her seen by a neurologist.  OR - She may just have a flu, there is a lot going around right now maybe since the weather changed.  Not that a flu is a very nice thing to have, but hopefully she'll feel better soon.  Also, try a washcloth with hot water across her eyes, that may reduce the throbbing of the headache itself and help her to relax.

I have a great brother like that too! I love my Big Brother!
Enjoy the love!
I have an older brother and younger brother
and I was a terrible handful, especially during high school compared to my brothers.
I have suffered from TMJ for many years. sm
I never bite my tounge in my sleep until my mother passed away. I did it several times for about 3 months after her death but then it stopped and it hasn't happened in almost 3 year. I could not adjust to a night guard so I just live with the TMJ. Have given up gum, ice, nuts, etc.
I suffered a miscarriage with my 1st pregancy
and got pregnant VERY easily immediately after they told me that we could start trying again and now have a beautiful, healthy 8 y/o that happens to share her b-day with your due date! Congratulations! :)
My work suffered today because of this
You have said now what my husband said about taking the furniture. I will make this 1 trip in the morning to see if my check will be there....I would love to picket in front of their place and yes I would do that with the hrs I could spare. I cannot believe this can happen to not only me but others. It is highway robbery and no one can stop it?? Maybe I can sleep on it overnight and sometimes the answers come that way. I will try and see. I so much appreciate each and everyone who took the time to give advice.
As a young girl, I suffered so much
with cramps, so bad I would be bent over so all girls are not alike. Years ago we could buy OTC paragoreic (sp?) and it was horrible to taste but it did the job in relieving those cramps. I also believe the steroids not only have to do with early puberty but also the fact of lots of excessive weight on people now. You never saw as obese people years ago, say in the 30s or 40s. I know loads will say fast food but also then our food supply was not loaded with all that it is now.
Only if you've never suffered from depression and
Walk a mile or two in my shoes before you go judging me, or anyone else who's been helped by antidepressants.
Besides the obvious humiliation the girl has suffered

Isn't this also the equivalent of performing medical testing on a minor without parental consent?  I agree with all of the above posters.  This child has been humiliated and that counselor needs to lose his job.  I have a 12 yo and she would be MORTIFIED if this was done to her.  She's uncomfortable enough with her body changes,  such as her breasts developing and just starting to have periods.  She would be embarrassed beyond words if something like this happened to her.

I suffered from a sore throat for a week or so s/m
but no fever, just congestion.  I started using a Netti pot two times every day and I no longer have the sore throat.  I even tried going without it for a day and sore throat came right back.  It must be that I sleep with my mouth open due to the congestion.  Good luck!
Migraines
My 5-year-old was diagnosed last year with migraines.  He was getting severe headaches with vomiting rather regularly, and we finally brought him in to have them evaluated.  His doctor prescribed Maxalt for him.  We also had to start trying to figure out what was causing them.  Believe it or not, we actually believe they were being caused by hot dogs!  I did some research on the Internet on the subject, and apparently there is a chemical in hot dogs that is known to bring on migraines in children.  After omitting hot dogs from his diet, he has basically been free of headaches.  I'm sorry to hear of your little one suffering with them.  I started getting them when I was 19 and they are just horrible.  I hope you find something that works for you!
migraines
I have suffered with migraines for many years, since the age of 12.  I had a negative head CT, but most of the time, the migraine tends to be pre and perimenstrual.  I have also experienced numbness in my upper extremities and contractures of my hands.  I am also hypoglycemic, so sometimes, upon awakening in the morning, some coffee, something over-the-counter, and food will work, especially if I am not nauseated.  Another generic route I sometimes do is by taking a wash rag, getting it very wet with very warm water, placing it on my entire face with room to breathe, and I then eventually go to very cold water; vessels will sometimes positively react to relieve my pain.  If not, Imitrex nasal 20 mg works wonderfully for me.  I can be in the throes of a migraine, and it will be totally gone in five to ten minutes.  Personally speaking, I did not want to take a daily maintenance medication; I, luckily, have the migraines infrequently.  I have had migraines much more severe than labor and childbirth - hands down.  Good luck to you for some consistent relief.
Have you ever had migraines?
I used to get horrible vertigo when I was younger and still occasionally do. I would get very nauseated and it would get to the point where I just had to lie perfectly still. It would start in the middle of the night, like you are describing. After ruling everything else out, the neurologists decided that it was due to migraine headaches, which I tend to get once a month with my cycle.
Migraines
Does anyone take a preventative for migraines? My migraines have been getting worse lately (3-4 a month) and so the doctor put me on metoprolol as a preventative. I find this medication makes me extremely sleepy. Does anyone have experience with this or any other preventative medications? Thanks in advance!
migraines
I have never heard of such a thing. My sister took something while she was on birth control. I have migranes as well. I do not take birth control though. I guess alot will depend on her doctor. Maybe she should call her OB/GYN who prescribed the pills and see what they say. They will no if there is a conflict.
Sinusitis/Migraines
I had my eyes checked and wear glasses - no more migraines.  When I had sinusitis really bad (not too much now), I used to boil a pot of water on the stove and stand over it to inhale the vapors.  Sometimes a towel over my head helped to capture more steam from the boiling water (be careful the towel doesn't catch fire from the stove burner), and I usually gained some relief.  Another idea for the migraine/sinusitis is to keep placing a really hot washcloth over your eyes/forehead and lay down in a dark room.  I do have a facial machine, but I haven't tried that yet as I haven't had any migraines/sinusitis in a long time.  Hope this helps.....I feel your pain .
My son started having migraines by 4..........sm
We didn't know that's what was going on at the time, but realized migraines were the problem. He played sports and these things would hit him out of the blue, sometimes brought on by being out in the bright light and just running a lot. We would put him in a dark dark room with no sounds. A cold pack really helped to shrink the vessels and would have to wait it out. An anti-inflammatory like Aleve might work better, but I would check with doc first because of her age. He's 20 now, but still gets one from time to time, mostly brought on by being out in the bright light for a long time, like when he's playing soccer or anything that keeps him outdoors in the light for long periods of time. Stress can bring them on also, even though there are docs out there that still say stress doesn't play a part.......yea, right!!! Obviously, they've never had a migraine. So sorry she's having to deal with this.
I have had migraines for as long as I
can remember. Use to get them really bad as a child. Most of them were due to sinus problems and my mother gave me Anacin back then, put me to bed, and I generally slept it off. We did not no they were migraines back then. My counselor in high school said I needed a psychiatrist. However, I still get them often. My daughter, who is now 23, started having them at about age 5. I just gave her tylenol and put her to bed with a cold compress on her head. I am soooooo sorry for your little one. I truly feel for her.
PS: I still get "visual" migraines.... (sm)
..those weird little dancing lights that come right in the middle of your field of vision. For some people they're the "aura" before a humdinger of a headache. But for me the flashing lights are in lieu of one, and are completely pain-free. They only last about 20-25 minutes. I had one last night, in fact. Couldn't work while it was flashing... managed to finish the report I was almost done with anyway, but couldn't see well enough to proof-read it, and it made me dizzy to try. SO.... in order to put the short "down-time" to good use, I logged off for 30 min. and took a nice, hot shower. By the time I was back at my desk, I could see again and was back in business. And I think the relaxing shower helped it to end more quickly than straining to try to read a computer screen would have. If a visual one comes on while driving (only happend a couple times), same thing: it was a good chance to pull off, find a Coke Machine or a Dairy Queen or McDonald's, and take a quick break.

I'm 50, perimenopause, and have been getting migraines since my 30s. SM
My grandma used to call them her "sick headaches" before we knew about migraines. Mine are always on one side of my head, and I develop runny eyes and sore throat, along with a host of weird symptoms. I keep telling myself I will get Rx meds, but never do. The headaches seem to be getting better as I age. One thing I do is to munch on crushed ice, for some reason that helps a little. My headaches last for days sometimes.

Hope your headache is gone by now.
Botox is great for migraines!
I have sinusitis and migraines along with very severe occipital neuralgia. I get Botox every 3 months along with supraorbial nerve blocks. I also take Bactrim or Biaxin for the sinusitis. I feel your pain, believe me. I have a nerve stimulator also. Good luck!
Migraines, anyone? Needing information
Have friend with migraines. She was told by her physician since she takes birth control pills she cannot be prescribed something for the headaches. Anyone know anything about this? TIA
SEVERE acne while on it
Years later and I'm still left with scars on my face, chest, back, and arms from the horrible acne I had with Depo. I also gained around 50 pounds on it! I'm on Yaz now and it works wonderfully. I also started using Proactive a couple of months ago and it seems to be working just as well as the prescription stuff I was using and costs a lot less.
Does anyone out there have a problem with severe

gum recession and bone loss?  I did not go to the dentist for some years, but kept up a very good routine at home. I have no cavities and my teeth are very clean.  I use an anti-plaque, antibacterial rinse daily.  I floss regularly, but just recently switched to floss instead of dental tape.  I am now using the tape again, as advised by the dentist I saw Wednesday.   He said in areas where I have wider spaces, if need be to use actual yarn.   The dentist said my care was actually too good.  He said that I am literally brushing way too hard, and that regular cleanings at the dentist are essential because bacteria between the teeth and gum line actually clings to the plaque, giving it a place to hang on and grow.  My father also had this problem with bone loss, and the dentist and hygienest said this is hereditary.  My dad had upper and lower dentures when he was still a young man.  After a thorough exam by both professionals they feel that if I come in every 4 months regularly (which I am going to do religiously), continue a good home routine being much more gentle with brushing, etc., that I can possibly keep my teeth for several years, possibly 10.  Some areas are worse, and my lower teeth in the front are the most affected.

The dentist said to buy very soft tooth brushes and hold them between my two fingers and very gently brush in a circular motion to avoid more gum recession.  They told me these brushes are made by Colgate and are very, very hard to find because when people find them they buy several at a time.  If anyone has seen them please let me know.  I looked again yesterday and only found soft, medium and hard.

I stopped going to my dentist when my insurance was cancelled when management changed.

Sorry for rambling.  Hope all this made sense.  I hope I have helped someone today.  Please look for those soft brushes.

Anybody ever take Paxil and have severe drowsiness....
I started on Paxil 20 mg on Saturday and I can barely function during the day.  I have to lay down every hour for about 15 minutes just to be able to work.  It is very bad.  Has anyone taken it at bedtime and did that work better for you??
Suggestions for severe dysmenorrhea, anyone?

You all have such a wealth of information that I just know someone will have a suggestion for me!  I have had severe dysmenorrhea my entire life.  I am talking pain so severe that it feels like an elephant is standing on my back and lower abdomen at the same time for 4 days a month.  I am now beginning to have pain outside my cycle that is nearly as bad.  Various doctors have suggested birth control pills, which I cannot take due to the severe nausea from the progesterone, to help the severity of my cycles.  I am currently on a progesterone cream with, you guessed it, the same nausea I get from the birth control pills.  What else can I try?  This nausea is 24 hours a day and 7 days a week and makes me feel awful.  I just want some relief from the pain of my periods without nausea as a trade off.  Thank you so much for any help you can provide!  :-)

We are having a severe thunder storm right now
and I am working like crazy becuse my dog won't get off my feet so she is working the peddle for me.  I just love my furry critters!
I suffer from severe hot flashes that have been going on now for s/m
several years. I know hormone replacement therapy is very dangerous. I am about crazy with them as they have come back stronger than ever, every several minutes. This is life altering and I am not sleeping because of constant waking up all night long. I tried black cohosh some years ago at the suggestion of my gynecologist which in the beginning worked like a charm. Then I noticed it actually made them worse and more frequent, timing them to every 15 minues. Can someone please help with some suggestions that would actually help get back to somewhat of a normal life and sleeping pattern.   Thanks in advance!
Severe Avon ladies
Not busting on you personally, but I had to chuckle picturing the severe Avon ladies!

Severe Financial Problems?
Like many, we are really suffering. My husband's employer filed Chapter 11. He kept his job, but his salary has been cut in half.

I have been out of work and looking for months, though I do get a few hundred dollars every month. All that goes toward our household expenses.

We are so far behind in our rent that the landlord's kindness is all that stands between us and eviction, but it's coming.

I know the only solution is more income. My husband WAS persuaded that he would have to find a second job, then I had two interviews. He felt optimistic that I would get on or the other, but I didn't.

Now he says he shouldn't have to get a second job if I don't have one. I understand how unfair that must feel, but his job hasn't paid our rent for nine weeks. Fair seems kind of beside the point.

In previous relationships I've gone through hard financial times, and the men really rose to the occasion. I don't know what to do. My husband plays video games several hours a day while we are going under.

We could have eviction filed on us within two weeks and I'm scared to death. I haven't even been able to get a minimum wages job. I feel that he's just going to ride it down and live in his car.

What should I do? What should I say to him?

I had a problem with severe dry skin patches also....

I found this Super E Natural vitamin E ointment for $5.00 at my local drug store and it went away almost immediately.  Hope you find something that helps!

I hear ya.....severe occipital neuralgia here too!!!
nm
Our stories are very, very similar. Due to my severe depression sm
something horrible happened which I cannot speak of here. It is the main reason I found God, so you and I are alike in that matter.

As for God rescuing you like that - that is amazing. I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one. He saved you by showing you meds and saying it's okay to take them, and He healed me from my ailment without meds. Who is to say one is better than the other? That is why the saying goes that God works in mysterious ways!

I am happy for you! Continue to do what you are doing. I am not judging you. I only spoke to NCMT through my own experiences. We all have our own experiences.
I do know my flu started with a severe sore throat
and then progressed to a very high fever, and chills and then it coupled with bronchitis. But the other poster is right, my doctor said there are so many different types of flu around this year. If he gets worse I would definitely call the doctor.
it's the only thing that works for my severe insomnia
i have tried everything else.  it's amazing how it is impossible for me to get to sleep.  even when i'm exhausted and think i don't need anything, my insomnia is so severe i cannot sleep unaided.  i think my "off-switch" is broke.  i get so jealous of people who yawn and say they're tired.  my friends can call me at 3 in the morning and i'm as bright and cheerful as if it's noon.
Severe warning about dangerous dog-toys!!

I came across this blog today on Craigslist:  http://www.thechaistory.blogspot.com/

And if you have a dog, it's a must-see.  It details what happened to a dog that was severely injured by a dog toy called a "Pimple Ball" made by Four Paws, Inc.  The dog ended up losing his tongue, and the pain he had to endure was excruciating.

The dog's owner relates that the Four Paws Co. hasn't owned up to the fact that its toy is dangerous, and he's calling for a international boycott of Four Paws, Inc.  After watching his video links of his poor dog's suffering, even though I have cats, I plan to be sure I don't purchase ANYTHING from this company, andhopefully you won't either.

Without anesthesia, and done by a dentist with severe halitosis. :)

Have had a cough for a week - woke up last night w severe arm pain, all the way down

I have been coughing and kind of achy, yesterday hurt all over, no fever, but in the middle of the night last night, woke up with horrible pain, to the point of making me cry all the way from my shoulder to the joints in my hands.  Both shoulder joints are sore, but the right arm hurts all the way down.  I have taken Advil, used muscle rub and am working with my arm propped on a pillow.  Anyone ever had this happen?  Wondering if it is just muscle pain from being sick or if I got something out of whack in my cervical spine from all the coughing!!  This stinks!!!

I posted earlier today asking for some suggestions to relieve severe s/m
hot flashes. Tonight I am doing a search for cures and came across a site that swears by apple cider vinegar. There are many posts on this site stating this has been a miracle for not only hot flashes but many other conditions. Now my question. . . How do you drink vinegar in water every day?  I am terrible about any liquid medicines, etc. with a bad taste. Anyone use ACV? I wish there was a better way to ingest it. Thanks!
I have the best brother ever!
Tonight my brother called, said he loved me and he knew I was struggling to catch up after being laid off and would I accept his gift to help me catch back up.     I love my family.   It isn't like he has money to spare really but he got a really nice bonus and wanted to share it with me.
My brother and I also won sm
a Halloween costume competition when we were little. He for my original costume (He was a hobo)and me for prettiest costume (me, what else, a princess)My mom was a whiz with the sewing machine. Funniest thing, We had the same last name as the anme of the department store that sponsered the competition. I assure you we were in no way related, but I bet no one else belived it.
Big Brother
Did anyone watch Big Brother last night?  Did you think Julie Chen looked awfully skinny.  I did not think she looked good at all.
Big Brother

Who out there watches Big Brother?  What is wrong with everyone this season?  They all seem so emotional.  It is so funny to watch.  No one gets along.  Can't stand Jen.

Oh brother!
a
My brother's got one. They ALWAYS
Why not put $500.00 away in a bank account and then take long weekends or splurge on a huge trip?  I don't see where you're saving money really, plus someone's padding their pocket somewhere.  :(
My brother
was a wild one when he was 15, hung out with an older crowd and so on. But he straightened out in his early 20s when most guys his age were still barhopping. He ended up getting his GED and now he is a Fire Capt. I think some kids go through those wild years a little earlier than others. I would not be comfortable with him hanging out with a 23-year-old though. Makes you wonder what the older guy's motivation is hanging out with a young teenager. Good luck.
Big Brother
Is anyone out there as disgusted with the results of Big Brother this year?  I cannot even watch the last one because it will make me physically sick to see either Daniele or Evel win.  Daniele is the biggest baby I have ever seen and Evel is the meanest person I think I have ever seen.
Big Brother
Oh, I was disgusted with how it turned out last night. I bet there are a lot of people out there that feel the same way. I won't have to worry about missing the next show.
Big Brother
I love ED.. He is just being realistic. You do what you gotta do when you are in a game like that. It always amazes me why people get their feelings hurt.. They are there to win the money and that is simply all. Waste of time otherwise. I am glad he won.. of course, his daughter will get the money because of the hate people feel for him... The truth hurts sometimes.
