My husband is a runner and is very active in his track club.

He drives me a little crazy, because it's nothing for him to run 10-miles for a "simple" workout. But he does a lot with the club by setting up races, some of which benefit charities. And he's very good, by the way. He's finished well in national track meets. He's also the treasurer for our son's boy scout troop. I'm an assistant scoutmaster and do all of the outside stuff with the kids. Hubby HATES camping, hiking, backpacking. But that's the stuff for me! Our interests overlap in a few areas, but there have been times that we even take separate vacations. (Lots of people gasp at that.) But, occasionally, we can combine them. He's running in Maine next year, and I know that there is a river that passes in front of our hotel. I'm bringing my kayak! He can run all he wants! :)

Sometimes it freaks me out. I'm a runner and take Walter the lab for (sm)
a pretty long haul every single morning. Roll out of bed, feet in sneakers, quick coffee, grab Ipod and leash him up and off we go. Except for this week it started to rain so I skipped the early run, let him out for a while and then started work early. When I look over at him he has taken my running shoes from beside the bed and is napping with them pillowed under his head by my desk. I imagine he actually sat there with the shoes looking at me for a while and fell asleep. I realized how much he loved the runs and the routine and he was very disappointed that day. So we'll continue our runs rain or shine. I can handle a little discomfort for my best bud.

I was the same age when I became active - sm
and slept with my boyfriend. My mom always thought it was my college boyfriend and I never corrected that assumption. I think I just did it because the hormones were raging more than anything, your daughter is most likely going through the same thing. My mom also asked me to wait until I got married, I told her pointblank that was not going to happen (I was 14 during that conversation but already a horny girl); plus I wanted to live with my future husband to hopefully avoid divorce (so far so good on that, and yes I did live with my DH for about 8 months before we got married). I also went out with plenty of losers. My parents were smart about it, as you appear to be doing, though demanding he get a checkup and HIV test may be a bit too far, plus he will just tell you to jump in a lake probably. From the sounds of it you would not have been happy if the guy was a freshman at Harvard. You knew she'd have sex sometime and assumed she would wait, big mistake. If that is what you did, great, or if you wish you had and did not and regreted it, so be it, you cannot live through your daughter. The only thing I have asked of my kids is to wait until after they graduate high school (that is what I did as the guys had very big mouths and have to brag); now if they don't that is their business and they will have to live with the consequences/rep they get, whatever. I hope they heed my advice but I won't freak out if they don't. As for taking her to the ob/gyn, that is a great idea though. They say to start at about 16 I think anyway, whether or not sexually active. I took myself when I was 17 and still in high school to get on the pill (did not ask parents/mom on that, did it on my own; drove over state lines to do it too). I had the hots for my on and off boyfriend and thought on prom night we'd "do it". Never happened, but that is fine. There is probably a lot she does that you don't know about no matter how close you are. I was very close to my mom but believe me she did not know everything. Eventually she will wise up about the boyfriend, especially if she has plans to do to college. Just try to chill out some and take it easy. Good luck.
Not too much, but I would have been more active.
I've actually done pretty much everything that I've wanted to do to this point. But I wish I had been more active and kept the weight off all along rather than struggling to lose 70 pounds in my 40s. I should have been out riding my bike, hiking on trails, the things I love to do now.
The one thing that I did at age 45, I think I would have done sooner in life. I had a breast reduction and went from a DDD/E cup to a C. Now being active is much easier, because I'm not carrying around the big girls lashed to my shoulders. LOL
Is your hubby active?
What I mean is he involved in outside interests clubs, volunteer ,maybe a hobby? I know a lot of yall here are still working fulltime, but there will come that day when you and hubby will be together all day side by side!! just wish mine would find an outside interest but he finds something wrong with any suggestion so I have quit saying anything he loves to stay at home.
For my grandmother, who is still active but
on a limited income I give her all occasion cards and stamps. She has told my mother many times what a great help they are to her.
If they are active in their community, then why
are you saying in quotations they are showing the children off? I think this speaks a lot for the way you are feeling towards them or her and it seems to me maybe she loves them and wants to let people know her grandchildren also. As a child I had to go spend time at my great aunt and uncle's house and they did not even have a television, only farm books, absolutely nothing for kids- we were not told we would do cookies. We went and said nothing- we were children but a little bit older than yours now. Why do you not send them a care gift for there, things they might enjoy doing on their own so their grandparents might also get time with them?
I don't keep track
I buy stuff over the entire year. We also adopt a family for Thanksgiving and Christmas and spend around $500 on them.
Santa Cruz, CA. Fifty bucks got me 3/4 tank in my 4 Runner @ 3.93/gallon. Plus... sm
There is a $50 limit at the gas pumps for credit cards... so could not fill it all the way up! That's kinda lame... (I get cash rebate so using that for gas always). My 4Runner is not too bad on a gas for a truck... not like a Honda though. But at least my dog can hang is head out the rear window!
My son is 15 and just recently became sexually active... SM
Some of you may remember my posting a few weeks back about him. Anyway, I just found out that he has been having sex with his girlfriend. And get this! She is the same age as him, but was by far not a virgin when they started going together. I have always, always, ALWAYS try to remain calm and encourage my son to talk to me no matter how uncomfortable I may feel. And let me tell you, I feel the same as you -- sick to my stomach. When I found out he was having sex, I felt like someone punched me in the gut! I raised him in church, taught him to wait for marriage for sex, that sex is best shared with someone you are in love with, sex should not be had casually. Didn't matter. Before I found out that he was sexually active, I had the "sex talk" with him again just to reiterate a few of the finer points and I talked about waiting for marriage or at the very least, love. He actually laughed at me and said "mom, I don't know anyone - boy or girl - that is waiting until they get married."
How I found out that my son was having sex was I was going through his room because I had reason to believe he was smoking pot. I found two joints and a box of condoms in one of his dresser drawers. Here's how I handled it. I confronted him with the pot and grounded his behind for a month. He also had to take a drug test which was negative (still baffles me, I guess I caught him before he tried it). With the condoms, I simply said "I'm going to give these back to you because I appreciate the fact that if you are having sex, you are at least being smart about it. Please don't do anything stupid."
I left it at that until I had another opening and then I told him how girls get pregnant sometimes on purpose, sometimes out of ignorance of birth controls. I've talked about STDs and HIV and how not only can unprotected sex will make him a father, a responsibility he is not near ready for, but it can also be an eventual death sentence. Every time we talk and I feel like I have an opening, I talk about safe sex and our moral and religious beliefs on sex.
I figure that is all I can do. I can't follow him around every day, on every date. And the truth is, I didn't wait until I was married. My mom said I would go to heck for having premarital sex and hellfire and eternal damnation didn't stop me from having sex.
The only advice I can give you is meet it head on. Don't act hysterical. Just approach straight-forward. She's having sex. It doesn't matter how you feel about it now. She's having it. Now your best course of action is to make sure she's smart and she protects herself. We live in a world where we have to balance our morality with practicality. It sucks, but that's the way it is.
Anyway, your not alone sister! Little comfort, I know.
I do it because I feel it is better to keep track..sm
than to ignore things and hope it all works out! I will have three daughters all with periods in the same month. How in the world would I know if anything is wrong in their monthly cycles if I am not keeping an eye on things? In this hectic world of non-stop activity I feel more comfortable knowing in advance when/if something is wrong. My mom always kept tract of mine and it was a good thing. I was so busy with dancing, sports and just being young that I didnt realize I had missed my period. When confronted about it we were able to get to the doc and get a handle on what was wrong. I feel just letting the kid be responsible to let me know she missed her period is just plain ignorant. You can let a kid be responsible for homework, pets, et cetera, but as a mother I am still in charge of her health and well being and if that means tracking periods then so be it.
We are going to the dog track with friends. sm
we have been doing this for years. Only spend a couple of dollars on each race (we really don't know what we are doing LOL) and then we play the slots. A couple of years ago I hit $2000.00 on "The Big Cheese". We only go once or twice a year so that makes it even more fun.

How tough is it to track taxes
Have a job offer but am worried about going IC.
I keep track of my daughter's periods too - sm
Numerous reasons...
I have a genetic blood disorder and I need to know these things. If my mom had been a little more vigilant with mine, I would not have bled for 31 days straight and ended up in the hospital for severe anemia at the ripe old age of 11.
The cause was not discovered then either. I nearly bled to death in birthing my oldest. It was years later that they discovered the reason for it.
One of my daughters has tested negative for the same disorder, the other will be tested when she gets her periods on a regular basis.
The next reason is convenience. Each of the girls have their preferred "products" and I need to know who needs what and when so there is not a HUGE fight over why there isn't any of this or that.
Next reason, both girls are very active in sports and other extra cirricular activities. Being on the go and getting caught without is never fun. I make sure they are prepared.
Lastly, one of the girls is horribly hormonal. Towns have a warning siren before a tornado hits right? I need a warning for our little hormonal hurricane.
They don't care that I keep track and understand why I do. No biggee to them.
they have some system now that they can sign up for to track who views sm
their myspace. not sure how it works because i didn't sign up for it, but i see it posted all the time. i view my daughter's friends sites all the time. noone has said anything to me yet about it, but i do communicate with a lot of them on there as they are friends and any friends of my children are friends with me as well. they know i wouldn't going ratting off on them unless it was something majorly in the wrong.
As an active dieter, you officially have my pity! (But you will have a small butt than me).....sm
The salmon cakes sound so yummy, love seafood, I usually make crab cakes, will try the salmon, do you make it essentially the same way? thanks!
I don't keep track either. Poor budget planner. Spend way too much - around $2k. nm

Club Med
I would recommend it highly. I've been to Club Med 5 times, twice before I got married and three times with the children. We have so much fun. It's like a cruise on land. There's so much to do or you can do nothing at all. There's clubs for families and the kids have their own clubs within Club Med. My daughter learned to water ski. They had Circus School at the Club Med in Florida, so she leared the trapeez, etc. She loved it so much we barely saw her the whole week we were there. The foods is amazing. Truthfully, I wouldn't go on vacation anywhere else but an all-inclusive. Unfortunately, we're not going this year due some medical problems within the family, but hopefully next year.
Christmas Club...sm
I have three grown kids (includes 1 in-law) and I have money taken out of my paycheck through the year and whatever the amount is when I get the check, I divide that by 3 and that is how much I spend on the kids. It's usually around $200 to $250. I put back through the year from my OT and get my husband something nice and then I just pick up a few inexpensive things along the way for a couple of other people I like to give a little something to. I don't think anybody really cares how much I spend on them, but I do try my best to be equal in what I spend on the kids, even at their ages now!
Join the club!
I cannot get mine threaded! Couldn't believe that. Will wait until after the holidays to try again.
Club Med is amazing
You could also try Club Med. They have places all over the world. We've been to the one in Cancun twice, the one in Florida twice (very family friendly), and Bermuda. Just the kind of vacation I love.
There are some Club Meds that do not
admit anyone under a certain age. Not all are family friendly, some very adult themed.
Very correct about Club Med
There are only a handful of Club Meds that that cater to families. There are probably over 50 and there are some that are supposed to be quite wild.
My daughter is into Club Penguin!
She's a computer geek already!!! Just kidding!!! LOL
Find a Steelers fan club
We moved away from Pittsburgh 20+ years ago. Most cities have fan clubs. We belong to one in our city, and it's a lot of fun going on Sundays and watching the games.
country club dressing sm
Just attended a wedding at a country club. No matter where you go, everyone dresses differently. I would wear a dress or nice pants & top with some jewelry if you have any. Some of the men had suits and some had just a shirt and tie (with slacks, of course!). I wore a plain short dress with a jacket handy because the place was so air conditioned, and a nice necklace, nylons and a slight heel. Everyone was dressed differently. Just make sure your hair looks neat, your crowning glory, then the rest of you will feel just fine. I think since it is your family, you may feel better if you just look neat with a little jewelry that's in your budget. They are very fortunate that you are celebrating their milestone. Wearing a smile and taking lots of pics and giving a copy to the couple will put you high on their list. Have fun!!!
Timeshare/Vacation Club
Last summer, my husband and I got suckered into one of those timeshare talks while on vacation. We ended up buying into the "trial program". It wasn't overly expensive, only about $1000, and we would receive 1-week at one of their resorts and a "price freeze" should we decide to buy in after that. After returning home and reviewing the package a little more closely, we decided that we wanted to cancel the trial package. I did a little research online and found that we had 7 days to cancel a timeshare. I immediately sent a certified letter to the resort company requesting to cancel the purchase agreement. They never responded and I ended up calling them to see if they had received my request. They confirmed that they did but that it was non-cancellable.
We stopped the autopay that we had set up on a credit card. From that time on, we began to get collection letters. I contacted the real estate commission for that state and asked for this to be investigated, to which I received a blanket letter from them stating that they tried to mediate but that the resort refused to resolve this. The resort basically stated that it was not cancellable and that we owed the money.
What I am wondering is, what happens now? The resort said they would continue to pursue this issue through third-party collectors. If I legally am obligated to this debt, why wouldn't they just take me to court? Why would they continue to draw this out? What effect will it have on my credit score? Anyone ever been in a similar situation? I should also note that we never used this vacation package. It expires July 2009. The total due has now escalated to about $1500 due to their "late fees". I don't want to ruin my credit over $1500, but I also don't want this package. Any suggestions?
I would hit Costco or Sam's Club and grab (sm)
some big bags of tortilla chips and salsa, something more bland maybe for the kids - and maybe even offer hotdogs/buns for the kids so they won't waste friend chicken? You can also buy big cans of Bush's Baked Beans and I'd get a potato salad or macaroni salad as well - you want them to fill up on the less expensive items so you don't run out of meat - kids usually love spaghetti also - that and some french bread would be a good side - I worry about fried chicken and the mess... have fun!!
Dear Columbia DVD Club
I know I was a sucker and a moron to ever sign up with you and probably deserve all the grief I am now getting with you charging my credit care for things I didn't order. However, I believe this just might be FRAUD (ya think?) on your part. Please stop charging me. Thank you.

I swear, I should be working. But, I just got done combing through the new Sam's Club Christmas s
catalog. You would not believe the kind of stuff they have in there now! I was impressed, shocked, thrilled, all at the same time. Now they have "packages" that members could buy and here were your 3 choices. You tell me which you'd choose, okay? Remember, this is just for fun because obviously none of us are millionaires (or at least I don't think we are :)
1. The Tony Bennett package which includes: Round trip tickets for 4 to London, VIP passes, meet Tony, autographs, 5 star hotel, gold VIP seats, food. Price: 44,000.
2. The Super Bowl package: Round trip tickets for 4 to Miami, tickets to the game, party with Dan Marino, 4 signed autographed jerseys, limo rides, 750.00 per person for spending money, 8:00 tee time at NFL golf game with an NFL player (OMG, how many husbands would be in awe of this??), 5-star hotel, amazing seats to the game, PLUS - 57 inch plasma t.v., surround sound for your home, camcorder, digital camera. Price: 77,000
3. The New Cessna Mustang (BEAUTIFUL), personal jet: Price: 2,400,000 (or something like that). To the person purchasing this: You must wire transfer 275,000 upon agreeing to buy it. This is MY choice, especially since I have a son who lives 4 states away.......
But, how much does a personal pilot cost? How much does it cost to "store" your plane?
Ahh, the lifestyle of the rich...How nice would it be to get your hubby the NFL package for Christmas???? It just doesn't compare to a tie, does it? Sigh..................

These are from Pretty Woman
Does your husband or significant other do this? Just now, at 7:30, my husband came home from sm
playing sports with a friend. After showering he comes downstairs naked and tries to start a conversation with me. My "office" is in the living room and he is standing in back of the couch so I can't see any private parts, just him without his shirt, but I can see enough to know he clearly is naked! I think he wants me to be amused or get turned on or something, but I'm not amused one bit. In fact, I keep working and basically ignore him.
Poor guy. I swear he thinks he's Vince Vaughn or something. I should at least smile at him but all I want to tell him is to put some clothes on! ugh!
My husband is the same way
Something about guys and their cars. I have no kids though and recently married so we still do some of our banking and bills separately by my choice. I thought he was being selfish too. So I got myself a 2nd part time job and I recently went out and bought a newer, bigger, fully loaded SUV and I don't let him use it! lol
My husband and I are doing it right now
and it is working, slowly but surely. After the first couple of things are paid off, its gets better and faster. We have a poster board with all our debt and we redo it every three months, and I must say that you see the debt going away. My hubbie cut all my credit cards up, and I was upset but in the scheme of things, it was the best. We only have one income and its working. Give it a try, I think you'll be surprised that it actually does work. My friend is also doing it, and their debt is disappearing also.
My husband and I did think of it. NM

Go for it! I met my husband .....sm
2 months after his wife died from a 3 year bout with cancer and we're very happily married.
Good luck!!!
My husband always tries, although he just
doesn't necessarily have the same taste as me. It is a hit and miss with him, but he always tries. This year we did not exchange gifts (agreed upon ahead of time) because I got a new house and he got a new truck. We concentrated on the kids. The only gripe I really have is that he doesn't do much in the way of getting me gifts from the kids on Mother's Day, and he's not much of a card person, although I am.
He helped me clean all week though, did anything I asked pretty much, cleaned up all day today, etc.
Honestly though, I do not agree with the posts below about making a list. I think that a gift should come from the heart and that some thought should be put into it. Things that I just want, I go get them myself.
My husband and I have 2
roundtrip airfare tickets for anywhere in the US. I'm looking for an all-inclusive resort (room, meals, activities), but am having a hard time finding one. Can you help me out with this? Thanks!
My husband
used this for his leg pain due to fibromyalgia but had a very bad reaction to it so was not able to continue to use it. He found a natural supplement online that has helped. Best of luck!!
So, you would be okay with your husband

This is what my husband (sm)
told me last night. I really hope that isn't what is going on. I am going to talk to her again about it again today. She has a cell phone (very near and dear to her heart!) I like for her to have it, so that I know she is okay when she isn't home, but since I now know that she is still smoking, I think I have very good reason to ground her. Hence, she won't be needing the cell phone.
Thanks for the input everyone.
