My female cat plays fetch with her toy mouse

Posted By: sm on 2007-06-14
In Reply to: What odd things do your pets do? - sm.

runs to get it, picks up in her mouth, and returns/drops it at your feet. So cute! She also sometimes cries very loudly over and over when I have the oven on as if she is in distress. I have no idea why! Any ideas? LOL. My male cat sits in the window and talks to the birds, a very odd chirping sound he only does with the birds. They're just too cute sometimes!

Far fetch but...

Where does your puppy sleep or spend most of his time?  Is there anything like the type of detergent you use or any carpet powders.  Could it be something like a grass allergy?

I'm thinking more along the lines of human allergies (like what I did for my son) and eliminating the allergen from the dog's surroundings.

Have you ruled out mites or any kind of bugs?

Yes and other Plays and STEELERS ARE #1.

My husband does community plays....sm
when the opportunity arises and helps me with the kids choir at church. Some people are just loners, meaning they really don't want to do anything other than work and home. My stepdaughter is that way and I also wish she'd take an interest in outside things, but that's just her personality.

He is great around the house - we split the house chores and pitch in together to get whatever needs to be done, done.
What to do with a puppy who plays too rough?

My puppy who is about 6 months old now and is going to be a good size dog (she's a boxer). She is getting to where she plays too rough. She bites really hard and doesn't know when it is enough. I have toys for her and try to encourage her to play with them and I have a rope that we play tug of war with, but she loves to jump up on people and bite their hair, hands and feet and she can bite hard. Plus I have a cat and she's very rough when she plays with the cat. My cat is pretty playful and likes to play, but doesn't always give my dog a good swat when she needs it, so I'm constantly having to rescue my cat because she just meows and catterwalls when the dog gets too rough.

We haven't played rough with her at all since we've had her and we got her once she was weaned from her mom, so I'm not sure where this behavior is coming from. She is just so loveable and doesn't mean any harm, but she's going to be a big dog and I don't want her to really hurt anybody. My 7yo daughter is constantly getting hurt because the dog jumped up on her, bit her too hard or scratched her with her nails. We say "no" sternly and swat her on the behind with a rolled up newspaper (not hard, just for the noise) and that will have immediate results, but she always comes back for more. So what do I do?

She just loves people and especially kids and she just wants to jump on them and give them big kisses and start playing. My daughter had a friend over this weekend and the little girl was immediately scared of our dog because our dog was so excited and jumping on her. I hate to see kids afraid of my dog when she really just wants to play and be loved on. I need to settle her down without breaking her spirit and I just don't know how to do it!

nobody plays anything anymore, apparently
Wow, it was like you were reciting a chapter from our life. We've had the hardest time around other parents and their kids. You should have seen the confused look we got the other day when someone asked us if our kids liked Diego, and we said that ours don't really watch TV. It was the politest thing to say, because there was the show up on their enormous expensive flat-screen TV, and the animation was so awful, and nothing at all was happening, and the kids were just itching to *do* something instead of being sung at by dead-eyed drawings, but how do you tell people that? ''I might let her watch TV if there were anything on that wasn't a hypnotic half-hour commercial for some crappy toy.'' If you say that, people think *you're* judgmental and weird, no matter how much they look down on you for not having the Latest and Greatest.

What can you do? Here's all I can do: Trust myself, trust my instincts that there's a mistake those people are making. My goal is to raise morally good kids. Make them good, make them smart. Rich, snobbish and overstimulated aren't virtues.

Anyone interested in ALW broadway plays or NFL football?

As far as NFL, I have been, and always will be, a Minnesota Vikings fan.  They have broken my heart so many times but I've been a fan 35 years now.  I grew up about 90 minutes south of Cleveland and have never even been to MN.  But I loved the color purple, the Purple People Eaters, Frank Tarkenton, Matt Blair, Chuck Foreman, etc.  It's my second longest relationship (my family being my first - LOL).

As for Andrew-Lloyd Webber plays, I know every word to every song from Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, and Phantom.  I also love A Chorus Line (not an ALW play).  I've seen it twice live and cried both times.  Most of the dancers' stories are just so sad. "At The Ballet" is my favorite.  Here's a youtube link.  Watch the third girl who comes in during the song (Maggie - played by Kay Cole) and watch her belt out a high E like you've never heard.  (around 4:54 into the song).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cPBWzsQ5zo

As a side note, the first girl who sings (Sheila) is played by Kelly Bishop who is on the Gilmore Girls (never saw show, just heard she was on it).

These people are the original Broadway cast.

I've seen Evita live several times as well as JSC.  I actually got to see JCS with the original Jesus and Judas from the movie made in 1973 (Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson) at a performance in CT (Foxwoods Casino).  Unfortunately, we lost Carl Anderson (Judas) to leukemia a few years back.  There will never be another Judas like him, AFAIC.  Godspeed, Carl.

So, anyone else an NFL or ALW/Broadway play fan?  Anyone have any different Broadway plays they really like?

Yep, he plays basketball, paint ball, and wrestles.

When my daughter was in plays, there was always a rehearsal schedule announced.

The earlobe plays a major role in foreplay

Any chance a mouse is somehow
caught in the fan? Although when this happened to my mother's, it caused it to quit running and she had to call a repairman. On discovering the problem, she heard him muttering to himself, "Why me? Why me?"
Its not a little piece of skin - read up on it. It plays a lot of important functions. Google it.
You just need to look around for some FACTS about the foreskin. It protects the glans, keeps the glans sensitive, plays a role in sexual activity, enhances the sexual experience for men, should I go on......Why don't you just read up on it?
the infamous house mouse

Get one of those "kind" traps. They're a metal container that the mouse can get into but not out of. Put some food inside (they love peanut butter) and then check the trap once a day. You can hold it up and peak inside. If you see any mice, take it out to a field and release them.

Mighty Mouse - Here I come to Save the Day!!

Use your mouse to move the cursor
up through the maze, all the way to the box at the end.  Once you've done it without touching the sides, it'll progress to the next maze which is more difficult.
I had a mouse get in my double oven many
years ago and get electrocuted on the wiring. Needless to say the kitchen smelled like something dead for DAYS. I tore the room apart and never found it. When we took the front electrical panel off 3 months later to replace a report, there it was! Looked like it was crucifed. All bones and they all fell out all over the stove. Yuk.
Right?! It's like what the last thing a mouse sees.
14 pounds eh?  She's just big boned!  Those vet bills are killer, aren't they?!  Our boy, Norman, the MaineCoon look-alike who went missing, twice had crystals or ash in his urine that required 2 emergency vet visits and catheterization or else his bladder would have ruptured.  Those bills combined were over $800...and the darned cat was a STRAY we picked out of the dumpster of the apartment building we were living in at the time.  Nosiree...ain't nuthin' for free I tell ya!  They are so worth it though and I really do think they appreciate all that we do for them.
It I not mistaken, when mine did this my mouse
was going bad. Can't remember exactly, but I do know this is the not the original mouse I had when I first got this computer.
We had a mouse a couple of months ago
and we have 2 indoor cats that definitely did nothing to scare the mouse. We could hear it scratching when things got really quiet but he was very tricky about moving around and totally avoiding the traps. We got a plug in device called Pest OFFense. It is about the size of a garage door opener. It does have lights on it so we know it was working but it does not make a noise that we can hear. Within a few days we heard nothing and saw absolutely no evidence of a mouse.

Does anyone have any problems with theirs?  When we press on an icon or something in the browser it seems to take a long time.   I find the computer freezes up at time.  I told my husband maybe is is the wireless equipment.  He tells me know.  I only have had it since Xmas.

No, I wouldn't do that. Why playing cat and mouse?
It is your husband's duty to settle this in a way that the wife and the father are both content.
Wasn't she on the Micky Mouse Club?
I thought I read that somewhere.
A 'Panic Mouse' battery-operated toy is great - sm
for young, frisky cats. Mine has kept 2 consecutive cats occupied, but currently it's set aside with a wire that came loose inside the it doesn't run. (Have to get my brother to take a look at it.) I also have a cat-video, but kitty has to be in just the right mood to watch it. She also enjoys GOLF!

Try rotating cat-toys. If they lose interest in some of them, hide them for a while, and when you bring them out a couple weeks later, it's like they're brand-new to the kitties sometimes! I also made a toy that hangs in a doorway. I sewed a mini-mouse to the end of a long shoestring, attached to a stretchy ponytail holder and then to another shoestring (the ponytail holder gives it some fun rebound when the pull on the mouse and then let go). It's hung from the middle of the doorway by a small nail. That, too, sometimes has to be set aside, but when it's kitty's toy of choice for the morning, it sure has her jumping high!

Finally, I feed the birds, squirrels and hummingbirds outside my bedroom window, and the cats like to sit on a tall dresser next to the window and watch them.

Back when I used to work away from home all day, I used to hide cat-treats in various places throughout the house for my cat to hunt for during the day. My first cat could find them ANYWHERE... her nose was like radar. My second cat, however, had to have them always hidden in the exact same places, or he couldn't find them. Still, it was a nice diversionary tactic I used just before I headed out the door each morning.

At other times I put odds and ends on my kitchen table intentionally for a bored cat to come along and knock off the edge. (Plastic spoons, an eraser, pens or pencils, hair clips, cat toys, hair scrunchies, etc.)
Got a computer question. I have a mouse with a wheel on top but what I have noticed lately is the
screen you are typing on will sometimes keep rolling down by itself.  Is this a mouse problem or computer problem.  It just keeps moving down by itself.

My former OB/GYN was female sm
but I didn't think she took me seriously as to how bad it was for me.  I had gone to her since I was 21 years old and she delivered both of my children.  I started having the PMS/heavy bleeding after my daughter was born 7 years ago.  It only got worse and worse as time passed.  Last year I started having the pain across my back and down my legs but the last two months that has gotten better.  The PMS has gotten better since I have reduced my stress level (was full-time job on-site/juggling side jobs and now at home full-time/not juggling so many jobs).  However I am feeling more now like the PMS is not so much anger but more emotional like wanting to cry when I think or look at something sad.  I still get a little short tempered and another problem is decreased libido, which normally I have no trouble in that department at all.  Loving husband, married a long time, yada, yada, yada...  Happy with life, but it is just those 2 weeks before that I suffer the most with the PMS.  Thanks for sharing about only taking the mega B6 two weeks before because I think I'll ask my new GYN.  I have pretty regular menses down to almost the day.  I am glad to have people on this board that will share their experiences.  I have learned so much today.  I can't thank you enough...
Perhaps you are not female and/or have no
female children.

I personally didn't use tampons until after my first child. Having a period is uncomfortable enough for a young girl or any woman for that matter.

My daughter is also of a very small build and even the smallest tampons would probably be very uncomfortable but that is beside the point.

The real point here is that she was publically humiliated at a time in her life when she is already extremely self-conscious. The whole boob issue has also recently "developed" and that's another wasp nest. (Sorry sis, once they show up, you are stuck with them.)

This gym teacher has a track record of public humiliation with kids. My older daughter had a sledding accident two years ago and cracked her tail bone and a vertebrae in her lower back. She had a doctor's excuse for absolutely NO participation in PE for nearly six weeks. The school was fine with it. The gym teacher was not.

This teacher is also a neighbor down the road a bit. She's a nasty old hag to say the least. She keeps her dog locked in the garage barking all day long. When it does manage to get out, it runs into the nearest house and wrecks havoc. It has managed to get into our house before and actually chewed the cord to my foot pedal.

I didn't say a word about it. The poor thing was desperate to see daylight, people, and other animals apparently.

So, needless to say, I will be sending her an email this morning and see how she responds. If I still think she is unreasonable and unapologetic, I will forward my email and her response to the district office.

Need female help for DD sm

My DD is away at college.  She is on BCPs and I don't know the brand.  She has irregular bleeding and all sorts of problems and no, I don't think she levels with the clinic where she is seen on campus.

She started her period yesterday before we took her back after a weekend home.  Today, she tells me she doesn't feel like she is in her body, spacy and weird.  She is flowing heavily.  I can't pay her ER bill and I am not so sure we are quite there yet.

I told her to drink lots of water, not to take a hot shower because that will dilate her vessels, start the next pack of pills to see if that will stop it (which is safe to do) and most all, GET TO BED AND SLEEP.

Any other suggestions? She is only 20 and she didn't start until she was 15.  She has been on and off of pills and they all seem to do this.  I could never take them for the same reasons and I want her off them when she is home for the summer because this is just stupid and scary.  She is 4 hours away and I can't get to her easily....oh help!

Thanks so much.

My female cat does something similar...
She acts like she is wiping her feet like that in the same spot in front of the TV.  Every time she walks past that spot, she does that.  I have no idea why.
Just female problems?

What is it about being near 40??  Was having heavy TOM, started BCPs to help, and have now had a continuous TOM for 23 days.  I am completely exhausted by 7:00 every evening.  Does this sound like just female problems or should I ask for an ultrasound to make sure there is nothing really bad going on?

My female dog usually lifts her
leg to urinate. She learned it at the dog park, watching other dogs. I know it's a dominance thing, but it's embarrassing to have somebody ask if she's male or female, and we say female, and then she goes and lifts her leg and does the back foot scratchy thing like a male! Except her scratchy action is more like a ballet move where the foot is off the ground and she reaches back with her toes pointed and wiggles it in the air. Most dogs are trying to scent-mark, scratching the ground with their foot pads and kicking up mulch and dirt. Apparently it's not worth getting dirty for Sasha - a Siberian that we refer to as our poodle, LOL.
We had a female Rottie who... sm
Would lift her leg to urinate. A lot of times, she would actually squat a little, AND lift her leg at the same time. It was very strange! I don't know how she did it w/o getting urine on herself, but she did. She was very ladylike about it.

In her case, it wasn't dominance of any kind. She was the sweetest, most gentle dog with people and all other dogs. She was the 'omega' of the pack, not a dominant bone in her body, so I think it was just learned behavior.
That's one problem with being female (sm)
Women too often hear that medical problems are related to either our periods or menopause. That doesn't mean we should have to suffer just because of our hormones we can't help. :(

That would have been rotten to start your headaches at age 12. You sound like you have a strong family history of it, too. Nothing helped you or your family?
My female maltese

is 10 now and developed this problem a couple of years ago.  It was not just at night, but anytime she was asleep, napping in my lap or asleep on my pillow snuggled next to my head (not a good way to wake up btw).  It seemed to come as a complete surprise to her, as she woke up during or immediately after urinating, not before.  All of her labs were normal, the only explanation was that it was a hormonal imbalance that occasionally occurs in older female dogs that were spayed at a very early age.  As nearly as I could determine from the records I got from the lady I got her from was that she was about 3-4 months old when she was spayed.  Since dogs can also have unwanted side effects from hormone replacement she was placed on antihistamines which resolved the problem for the most part, but she still gets the late night trip right before bedtime.  Since your dog just started this late in life it may not be from the same thing, but it couldn't hurt, assuming that your dog has been spayed, to consider it as a possible cause if no other explanation is found.  Here is a link to Merck Veterinary Manual online edition page that describes the condition (you may have to cut and paste).

I have two cats, one male and one female-
the female's name is Ophelia, a.k.a. Miss Thing, a.k.a. feefee, feebee or feegirl.

My baby boy's name is Curly, a.k.a. Curls, a.k.a. fattyboy, crybaby boy, or kittyboy. I once decided he should have a Native American name so his full name is Curly Purrsloud Longtail Kittyboy. :D Although now the poor baby has just been diagnosed with diabetes so I may need to make that Curly Purrsloud Longtail takes-insulin-well Kittyboy. :)
I am a 33 y.o. female with an abnormal mammogram. sm

After the test the tech told me to wait so she can run the films by doc to see if everything was okay or if he needed more images. This was my 1st one. She returned and said she needed more images.

I waited 20 minutes.  Then she said you'll be here for a while, he wants to order an ultrasound.  I was so scared by this point.  All by myself.  No explanations.  My breasts are "lumpy" which is why my GYN sent me there in the 1st place.

I rec'd my postcard in the mail that he wants to see me AGAIN for more images. Why? Anyone with this before? He didn't recommend me to a surgeon or anything. Just more images. I haven't heard a word from my GYN either and I'm sure she's gotten the results as it's been a while now.  So, I'm going back next week for more images and I'm scared to death.

I have 3 young boys and a hopeless husband (I mean that in a good way) who can't really function without me.  Anyways, please let me know what you "think."  I just don't know. I do feel sharp pains in my left breast at times.

Female hair loss

I'm wondering if any of you all have experienced, or know someone who has, hair loss.  I'm 32 and for the last few years my hair has been thinning.  Of course, for the last few years I was on Zoloft, and now that I have stopped it we are hoping I soon will once again have a full head of hair, but just in case...

How do you handle it?  Wigs, scarves?  My hair has always been my one vanity, so this is somewhat disturbing.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

HC

Female anatomy and the brain
I do a lot of neuro dictation and I've noticed that seizures and migraines tend to increase in a lot of females with their menses.  Anyone know the link between females having an increase in both of these problems with their menses?  Would a hysterectomy be helpful?  I'm truly curious about this.
