Have had more good ones than bad. I think the best in my memory was the first Thanksgiving after my brother came home safe from Vietnam. It was just great to know that he was out of harm's way. For some reason, I remember that one vividly. We didn't care in those days whether china matched or chairs, etc., as long as we all fit at the table(s) which crossed between two rooms. Being together was all that counted.
Another one we still laugh at is when my MIL was alive and getting on in years, our dog started chewing at the end of her turkey leg which was on the outside of her plate closest to the end of the table. Our frisky little terrier just stuck her head out from under the table and started nibbling away at the drumstick and my MIL just kept saying what a delicious meal it was. My husband coached the dog away without her even noticing she was there. (She didn't eat much, just a few nibbles.) Still makes us chuckle. We are "dog people" but I am sure this would sicken some others who are not. Now we keep our dog in the bedroom and shut the door while we eat. My MIL is gone and that was 2 dogs ago, but this memory still lingers on.
