Same thing happened with me! I knew this guy from church. I had been divorced for 3 years, he for 2. I saw him at my son's band concert; he was there for his daughter. We started talking, then talking on the phone, then later started "dating". We I admired him because he was raising his 2 daughters on his own; they chose to live with him. We dated for 3 years then married (would have been sooner on my part!). I had sworn I was not getting involved or married to anyone else because I was involved with an abusive guy. He is a great dad, a great christian man, and we have now been married 16 years! I don't know what I would do without him......he's my best friend.
