It is quite wierd. I really don't want to watch Kid Nation but am sometimes drawn to those kind of shows.

thoughout her life. You were together for many years and you gave her a wonderful life. Please try to always remember that. A woman who cleaned for my mom cleaned my apartment once and when I showed her a dog collar that I have that my darling Westie wore I broke down. This woman knew my Westie and loved her, too. I cried and said I had some feelings of guilt that I was dealing with. This wonderful woman said something to me that might help you now. She said
"Just think of the life you gave her. Now think of the life she might have had if she had fallen into the hands of someone who did not love her." That really helped me a lot. I hope in time it will help you, too. God Bless you.
I have a 14yr old daughter sm
and I certainly would want to know what "people are saying" about my daughter, then maybe I can get to the bottom of it. I hvae 5 nieces ranging from 18 to 11 and I would tell both of my SIL in a heartbeat. I would choose my words very carefully and do so cautiously, but if my family knew something like this and didn't tell me, I would be even more upset. Good Luck.

I have a 16yr old son and 14yr old daughter
and I have never checked their e-mail. I am sure many people would call me stup!d but I totally trust them. We live in a small town and it seems everybody knows every one else's business. I may make different choices if they gave me reason to suspect something, but we have built a trust that I don't want to be the first one to break. Don't want them to either!!!!!

I told my 14yr old daughter this story
and even she was livid. My daughter stated that not every girl wants to wear a tampon. I say go over the teacher's head and go straight to the principal. All through elementary, middle, and high school I have been lucky enough to have a good relationship with the principals. Wish she was at my children's high school, I know this would defintely be handled in the proper manner.

I knew early on what confine meant when we had a cow ready to give birth. My grandpa "confined" her to keep her from running off into the pasture to have it on her own. You can imagine my surprise (disgust actually) when I heard educated doctors use basically the same phraseology towards a human-being...I was a tad disturbed. Then I thought...it was probably a good thing I had been confined then or God only knows which park I may have had my daughter in. LOL
BTW, my 14yr old daughter wants packing tips. Any sugestions? nm

My 14yr old daughter asked me to please go to my gab board for advice.
Late Sunday nite her head started itching for no apparent reason. It has now progressed to different areas of her body. First her hands and feet, then her stomach and back, sometimes her legs. At first I saw no signs of a rash or even any redness. No once she begins scratching she will have big patches of red with little tiny bumps. She doesn't have hives. She takes benadryl but it makes her so sleepy she can hardly function. She is using Aveeno cream in certain areas but can't put that in her hair. We have changed nothing such as detergent, shampoo, or body wash. No new perfumes or anything. She has been taking minocycline for about 2-3 weeks and one minor side effect is hives, but like I said these are not hives. I started her on Claritin today just in case it is some sort of allergy. I haven't called the doctor yet becuase it is hard to go into all these details without being interuppted. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
When I lived on a farm back in the day...
One night my girls (little then) and I were coming home after work and we came down the hill and the headlights illuminated many, many dead cats, at least 40. It was so traumatic. The girls were screaming and crying, it was awful. And it was also a black lab that was the culprit. What a horrible sight that was. I'll never forget it.

My husband growing up lived on a farm where
his father raised black angus cattle. You cannot get a better cut of meat than that except for the extra expensive Koba (spelling?) maybe. He and his siblings told me,they got so tired of having steaks, etc. all the time and welcomed bologna instead. Now way past childhood, my husband loves a good bologna sandwich because years ago it was like a treat for the kids to get instead of the steaks all the time.

When I got divorced, I left my home town and moved 1000 miles away. Stayed there 2-1/2 years, came back to my home town's neighboring state for 3 years, but back to the neighboring state that was 1000 miles away again...
now I'm back in my home town.
I moved to several different areas in those locales during that time, so I actually moved a total of 9 times in 7 years. I am sick of moving my king size bedroom, but I will probably move again next year, just a mile or so away though. I hope it's the last move!

told our large group of homeschoolers (both moms and dads) during our tour that he had to learn the hard way that women make THE GREATEST strawberry planters. He said he hired a bunch of men one year and that was the last time he did that. He said now they are all women - they take their time, take pride in their work, and just do something for the soil where he has huge, gorgeous berries whenever they plant them. All the women there broke into applause. I thought it was so funny. I just liked seeing a man actually admit to something like that.....

My spouse and I feel that if you are immigrating into the US, you need to speak English. Of course as an MT I do not like my work being threatened by India (I previously worked in bank customer service, and my company there outsourced 3000 jobs to India and laid off all the US CSRs). My spouse grew up in Detroit which is now classified as a" dead city" with the highest unemployment rate and some of the lowest house values in the nation due to outsourcing of the auto companies to Mexico and many auto parts and steel are now made in Asia.
However, we may even learn Spanish. He is retraining in Nursery and Greenhouse Management and it just makes sense as that will help him manage the laborers. if he ever owns his own biz, we will insist on legitimate papers for every worker.
You can transcribe between two languages from home, just like you do MT from home. Spanish does not pay as much as, say, Arabic (a language I strongly wanted to learn) but there is more demand for it and it is easier to learn for an English speaker (and if we all get lucky, our overseas Middle East involvement will cease and there will be no more need for transcription of Arabic to English. Somehow I don't think we will get that lucky).
What gets me is people who move here and still do not speak the language after 5 or 10 years!!!
I would not even visit another country as a TOURIST without studying the language for months ahead of time if there was not a lot of English spoken there, and I would study some of the indigenous language anyway. It's just a sign of respect.
I think it is going to be to our benefit to be bilingual but I don't see us ever not having at least some ambivalence about the people we speak it to (but I think we will meet some good people as well).
Mostly English but
My dad's family came to Pennsylvania in the early 1700s but my mom's family came in the late 1800s, one side from Ireland and the other from Germany/Poland. So while we speak English, we use various slang German and Polish words along with some Pennsylvania Dutch.

Why does this country make it so easy for them NOT to learn English?
This Is America. My grandparents who came from Italy learned English. They weren't "catered to" in Italian.
Now it's.... Press 1 for English 2 for Spanish.
Instructions to anything are given in both English and Spanish.
Signs all over are in written in Spanish.
We make it easy for them. Why should they learn English.
Because they spend money in this country. Is that why? They should make an effort to learn the language spoken here. JMO

Not to mention when you try to make a service call, you get someone from India you can barely understand. Outsourcing, what a beautiful thing. NOT.
I teach English as a volunteer.
While there are immigrants here who do not choose to actively pursue learning the language via formal means, there are many who do. We have a waiting list of up to 12-14 months due to class space restrictions and a lack of volunteers. English is not an easy language to learn, and it takes time.

The mother of the groom is saying the grandmother is calling and giving threatening messages. I would not give a rats behind I would not want to even invite her if she cannot control her anger. It is THEIR wedding, not the grandmothers, not the mothers, but THEIRS. People send out messages by what they say- the mother says the grandmother is threatening. Why don’t you invite the grandmother somewhere??? Oh really sounds like someone I would like to come to my wedding, NOT!

English Toffee--super easy
You can put down any kind of nuts you want--if you want in a raised-sided cookie sheet.
Cook 1# of butter and 1# of brown sugar plus a little vanilla to hardball stage (I put a little in a cup of cold water and if it is crunchy, it is done).
Quickly pour into cookie sheet because it is easy to burn. Scatter one bag of chocolate chips on top and wait to melt a little before speading across the top.
Everyone loves it and it is pretty easy to make. Once it cools, you break it into pieces.

fresh fruit with yogurt and Bare Naked granola. Coffee of course.
People in other countries do not chose to learn English, they HAVE to learn it in school
for a period of 8 to 12 years.

where would you suggest I put him???? He was an indoor cat but managed to escape. Ate through 3 or 4 screens to get to the * wild *. It was in his blood. He was found in a field and I rescued him.
That's what some cats do. They kill birds. Period.
But you don't need to worry about the birds anymore, because the cat left one day and never returned. He was completely white. He left around Halloween and was never seen again. My daughter worried for months and wrote a story about him to the local newspaper hoping to get him back. Did not happen.
Maybe a bird ate him. Would that make you feel better?
I am very sorry, being an animal lover, but
I really believe the final call on this had nothing to do with money. A horse, unlike cats or dogs, cannot support their weight only on 3 legs and I believe the people who owned this beautiful animal did everything they could to let him live. They knew he would never run again much less be able to live any kind of meaningful life. I heard he was not doing well yesterday and thought this would be the outcome. So sorry, though.
I said never again for taking in animal because
right after I had surgery, a Springer Spaniel came to my door. Loving animals I took him in, put flyers out in the neighborhood trying to find owner, called the pound to see if anyone declared missing, put ad in the paper under found animals, nothing-all the calls I got wanted him, did not lose him. I interviewed and hoped I chose the best- he was high energy and me low. It breaks my heart to see strays, feel so sorry and carry dog food in the back of my vehicle to feed in case I come across 1-I have before.
I am so, so sorry as I am an animal lover also
and can really feel your pain. I have 3 furkids of my own and my heart just goes out to you and your family at this time. These special animals are just part of our own families and I grieve with you.

When DH sees something dead in the road, he always calls it a possum, no matter what it is. Cause I'm not a big fan of those (sorry possum lovers). To be funny he'll say masked possum (for a raccoon) or ring-tailed possum (also racoon), or gold possum (cat), bob-tailed possum (rabbit). He thinks he's hilarious.
