Ms Thinking you can keep your pits

In Reply to: I go on the defensive because I don't like ...sm - Responsible pit bull owner

This place is run by the police department and they want no charges coming back on them. I think they would know what they are doing- they see these pits all the time. I definitely do not have the time spent as they do in their rescuing so I trust their efforts. There is another place where you could post- people take up for their pits on CLs. I will take the smaller dogs and ones who do not have the bad reputation pits have. I can sterotype anyway I want- I love my life and would not risk it for anything with a dangerous breed and that, my dear, is what they are considered. Wake up.

Help! His pits are the pits!

My  husband is one of those hairy guys.  Not grossly hairy but hairy and the hair under his arms can grow like 2-3 inches.  He hates that so we will take the clippers and trim it down.  At any rate about 8 years or so ago he started developing this rash under his arms.  At that time he used RightGuard Sports scent. I loved the smell of that stuff!  He thought it was the alcohol in that so he would start spraying it on his tee shirt instead of directly under his arm pit.  He has tried different kinds and roll-ons.  I switched him to Sure unscented, which I use and that seemed to help for a while, now he has it again and he will put a streak of deodorant on both sides of his arm pit.  It is driving him crazy, which is driving me crazy.

I know he needs to see a dermatologist but he works out of town and long hours so usually there is no time.  My mother and I think this might be a yeast infection of some kind, but you would think that would be in the genital region as well, but this is just under his arms and he has never had this problem anywhere else..  I used an antifungal stuff that you paint on which burned the fire out of him after a while. I contains an acid.  Oops.  Followed that with talc powder.  He will put Benadryl and preparation H on it to stop it from itching.  Hilarious, the other day he said, do you have any Vagisil?  Cracked me up.  I said I have never in my life had a yeast infection and hoped never to have one - and did not want him buying it for fear people would think I did.  Sure he's buying that for his arms!  I want to make him scoop yogurt under there!

Anyone had this problem or have any ideas. This is not like a rash with bumps.  It is not actually raw but looks raw.  I guess in a sense it is.  It is red and inflamed looking, dry and smooth, not scalely and about 1.5 inch in diameter.  He once thought this was from the seam on his undershirts, which he always wears, plus he is a crane operator so he keeps both hands busy shifting gears.

Any remedies would be welcome.  TIA.

pits
Maybe stop shaving pits. It seems the hair might help if it is a contact dermatitis, especially if he is a crane operator and moving arms back and forth all day. Or perhaps some kind of underarm pad just for working?
UPS is the PITS
I gave up on them long, long ago.  Next time call FEDEX.  They have never let me down and deliver stuff way early (like by 10:00 in the a.m.) while UPS gets here at dinnertime (I swear this is true).  Most of the time I get next day morning service even though I did not specify it or used 2nd day.  I love FEDEX!  Although, I would NEVER use their cheapest service (those are delivered by independent contractors and if they leave it at the wrong house (which they do a lot) it can be a week before they come back to pick it up and re-deliver it.  Other than that one fault, they are the BEST!
Pits
I have never been for pit bulls in this country...they are banned from ssome other countries. The problem is they were bred for aggressive behavior. I do understand your situation.....he was raised in a loving home, not aggressive, and it is hard watching a neighbor's dog have aggressive tendencies butyours being singled out for euthanization. BUT pits have very specific physical traits that put them in a different ballpark....they jaws are like steel traps. Once they bite on, you CANNOT get them loose and this is why they are reported on the news as killing children, etc., once they get going, they will kill and not let go.

My brother-in-law had one from a puppy on. She was beautiful and very friendly but there was always something I NEVER like about her. She would come up to me and put her paws on my chest, trying to be nice, but her muscular build alone would cause her to leave big bruises and lumps on my arms. They had children and that always made me nervous. I never let my children around that dog and my husband wouldn't either. I just didn't trust her. Well, after 9 or so years with them, raised from a pup, one day a neighbor's child was playing in their yard with their children, and for some reason she just started chasing the child, knocked her down, and had her by the back down on the ground. My brother-in-law, a very muscular guy, could barely get her off. She had not actually bitten into the child but her jaws were open and pushing down on her back and she meant business. Out of the blue, she became aggressive and that was all I needed to know. The vet had told them the tendency is there,as it is in other breeds, but with this breed, because of their jaws, they clamp down and you CANNOT get them open. The jaws literally lock into place like a steel trap. They are bred for this.

So, please be careful. I know you love her, I really do understand that, but this was 9 to 10 years into her life with them she went bazerk and it could have been fatal.
Aww! Are they pits? NM
aa
I have two pits and they both wore little - sm
doggy coats when they were pups in the winter time. They were so cute in them. I couldn't find coats for them when they got bigger or they would still be wearing them.

Although, it's really cold here in the winter and it makes a trip to the potty very short. They go out, do their business and want to come right back in.
I posted below about pits
adn said wish they would phase them out. But you know, with all hearing about them, don’t you think this woman was totally responsible for having them in the first place? I think it is really sad that folks continue to let them be around children, especially. The adults surely to goodness know better but continue on with wanting to own them and speaking up for them when they are real killers.
if pits get loose
It isn't in a pitbulls nature to be mean to humans. Now they can be aggressive towards other dogs, but that too often is mistaken as people aggression, but these are far two different things. If you get on a pitbulls property they are very protective & if they don't know you then you may get bit, but that's with any dog. If they get loose they aren't going to go around the neighborhood looking for somebody to attack, in fact if they are loose roaming around they are more scared of you then you are of them. Took us 3hrs to get a full-grown pitbull off the side of the road. Read his story here: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/600278
I love pits too...sm
Like I said, I was really proud to be part of an organization that saw past the stereotypes and knew that pits are good dogs too. Actually, I think pits can be one of the most loyal and loving out of all the breeds if you give them a chance. I have never owned one myself (but will someday) as we still live in an apartment and there is no way they would let us have a pit bull (I disagree, but you can't argue that with some people). However, I have had the great pleasure of getting to know and love many pits in my life and I definitely have a special place for them in my heart!
I am not upset that you are afraid of pits...sm
I could understand that. Totally understandable based on media hype these dogs get. But to make the comment that they should be illegal is uncalled for. My dog is not vicious and you have no right to make a comment about a breed of dog chances are you know nothing about except what you hear. You might have well have said my child should be illegal. I love my dogs very much.
You say pits were bred to attack...sm
They were. But they were bred to attack dogs not humans. One thing the unscrupulous people who bred these dogs did right was breed them to not be human aggresssive. Because when they were in the ring with the dogs they couldn't be worried about the dogs attacking them. So they wanted a dog that wasn't aggressive towards humans. I have done research and read this to be true. That doesn't mean all pits are not human aggressive. There may be some that are but it wasn't bred into them.
If you rent, it may not be allowed. Rotties, pits,
dobermans, chows, and german shepards are often on landlords 'not allowed' lists, for liability reasons.

I'm a dog-person, and have known quite a few rotts, and none of them were friendly to anyone but their master.

I think one of the best choices for a 'first big dog' would be a labrador retriever. Laid-back, not as barky, usually love everyone, great family dogs, yet big enough to possibly deter a burglar.
You will only have people posting about how sweet their pits
are. They will tell you what other kind of dogs attack, kill besides their pits. Funny how the majority of time you read how good family dogs, sweet dogs, attack and kill their owners, or grandchildren here but people continue to have and own. Bad to say but I hope the grandmother here is charged in the child's death. I do rescues and some places around town do not let pits be adopted at all to the public, they put them down first.
Might have him shave pits completely & just use baking soda as
s
That is exactly what I was thinking, HUH?! lol NM
nm
Thank you for thinking of others!!

that's exactly what i was thinking

That is what I was thinking. At first, she might
have had some point to what she was saying...but not after all the other posts I had started reading.
Well, I'm thinking one (sm)
of the differences (and I don't think that makes it right), is that this insurance company obviously is not putting out a huge amount of money for this claim. I highly doubt that you have the same insurance company that they have, so that could be another reason why it was so easy for them. If you ask my opinion, even though I'm related to them, I think it's a little over the top. I certainly didn't mean to cause any resentment or anger here by posting this to begin with. I really didn't believe that it would turn out this way. I'm still surprised.
What are they THINKING?

Just watched Idol and am shaking my head in disbelief.

You said everything I was thinking
.
Thank you for saying what I was thinking... sm
But didn't want to say. Esp. the post below about putting band-aids on the nipple and the child sucked beside the band-aids and put hickies on mom's breast? Oh, man. I'm sure it was all very innocent, but that made me nauseous.

I thought maybe it was just me, since I don't have kids, but breast-feeding that long seems a little sick to me. (I know, I know, they do it in other countries, it's perfectly natural, we're the ones with the hang-up, etc.)
Thinking??? They are not thinking.
I already have one brother in the pen and my other brother has NEVER been in trouble, he is nearing 50 years old and is facing several years in the pen for being plain brainless!!! Sorry, I am just so frustrated, I don't understand this and now I am left alone to assist our aging parents.
Thinking they can get away with it - ego. nm

I'm thinking...(sm)

They were Brooke's eggs...so Taylor's carrying Brooke and Nick's child...and Bridgette had everything to do with it, probably not Brooke!

Wow...aint we glad real life isn't a soap!!! But sure do love indulging in fantasy for 30 minutes a day!

Do you also watch Y&R? I don't think Nick's really dead...he'll come back, Phyllis will probably be in jail, and he and Sharon will raise Summer...just a thought!

That's what I was thinking too
for my own bedroom, which we are in the process of painting now. I want to add some color, and think that some kind of border would break the contrast between the wall and the ceiling, be it wallpaper, sponge technique, stenciling, or other. I think maybe having the ceiling the same color as the walls would be too much for me, unless a very light color.
This is the one I was thinking of! Thanks - nm
:)
LOL. Thinking the same
thing here. If anyone makes that doing this, they have to be totally working their behinds off!
Thinking about a new pet . . .
Does anyone have a ferret?  Are they difficult to care for?  Do you have to buy a pair or could I start out with just one in a large area where more could be added over time.  What is the best type of cage that is chew proof?  There are so many out there.
i'd like to know too, been thinking about that myself lately. sm
we have recently had to have 3 different appraisals on our home. i had to pay $350, $350 and $375 for each one. the last one the lady was here at max 15 minutes, it was her second appraisal for the day and she was gone before noon and i know she was heading to do another when she left my house. sounds like descent money to me. i am sure gas expenses are quite hefty with the traveling, but still seems like much better profit than MT. she took pictures and measured a few things and that was about all other than preparing the paperwork, researching other properties in area, etc.
I am thinking... sm
One year I planted tomato plants, 12 of them.  They all grew fine, grew flowers, then all of a sudden I could look out the window and actually SEE them such them down, whole plants.  schlooop.  gotta feed the babies.  We put some screening underground and next season was better.  Sorry about you punkins.  It could be rabbits, but the whole plant thing going underground was definitely gophers for me.
I'm so sorry! I was thinking
about your post the other day. My dog had the same type of weird behavior. He was wandering around aimlessly and fell asleep in a closet - not like him at all. We didn't really think too much of it at the time. Then a few weeks later he was walking along and fell over into the pool. He hates the pool and is terrified of water. My mother (who can't swim) jumped in after him, but he was already swimming. He never even went completely under the water, he recovered that fast. We brought him to the vet immediately. He had no hearing loss or vision loss. The vet said that he probably had a TIA. It has happend a couple more times since then. Other then the little episodes, which only last a few minutes, he is a perfectly normal dog and plays and eats. The vet didn't really do anything for him. He just told us that if we noticed any big changes, to bring the dog in immediately. I would definitely take her to the vet and see what the vet has to say. Give your baby lots of love!!!
Well, please at least tell me what you are thinking (sm)
I know you are not a doctor and won't consider it to be medical advice but have you heard of something like this before??
Thinking of you! - sm
My PS was calling us all today asking for us to work extra because of all the MTs in S. CA who are down. At least someone at the company cares!

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone down there.
Was actually thinking about you
when I saw it on the news - actually had film on Cape Cod.  Glad you are okay.  I also know several other regulars are from Maine.
Thanks. That's what I was thinking.

EXACTLY what I was thinking!
I have come to realize that my so-called "friend" is a very jealous person, and it makes me insane because I don't understand it! This is a small thing, but for example, at the beginning of this past summer, my husband and I were talking with her about GPS systems and how it would be nice to have one for our car for when we travel. She told us that she would love to get one, too, but they were just so expensive. My husband and I ended up getting a great deal on a really nice GPS system online in July, so we bought it, and when I told her about it, her exact response was, "I really have no interest in those things." I couldn't believe it! She had seemed like she wanted one ever more than we did!

Also, shortly before Thanksgiving, we were talking about laptop computers and how we both wanted new ones (we both had older ones), and she kept telling me that she was going to get one after the holidays, but I had no immediate plans to buy one. Well, for Christmas, my husband bought me a beautiful brand new HP laptop, which was completely unexpected! I was so excited, so I told her the good news and her response was, "Laptops are nothing but pains. I hate the things." Why does she do this???? I hate jealous people! It's not even like I was trying to make her jealous, but was just so excited that I wanted to share the exciting news with someone! Shouldn't a friend be happy for you and not turn completely jealous when something good happens for you?

I guess she is not really a true friend. After all of these times of blowing us off by not coming over when she has said she was going to, I am just sick of it, and I'm not going to even talk to her anymore.
Thanks - that's what I was thinking too (sm)
That at least I could try to show him a respectful way to behave, give him an example. Interesting that I am also a Scout leader :-)
I was thinking that too!!
I need to find a way to keep my arms out from under my pillow while I sleep too!!

Thanks - that's exactly what I was thinking (sm)
Thanks for understanding where I was coming from.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Don't cook, don't clean, don't wash...I guess if I didn't ever have to do anything, I may remember moving a pair of underwear to a specific different drawer 2 days before I was going to wear them. As I sit right now, when I open a drawer I'm lucky if I remember why I came in the room let alone what I opened the drawer for. Pay the lady and maybe she can buy her own soap and undies.
That's the one I was thinking of!
Rules of Engagement. That show is SO funny. Just crackes me up every time. I like the other shows on the Monday night lineup too but they have had a LOT iof repeats so I stopped recording them. Except my hubs knows if he sees Christine or Rules of Engagement he will record them for me.
Still thinking -
BBQ pork and chicken are good too. Something you can grill a few days ahead and then leave in the crock pot to finish the day you want it. I find pork roasts are relatively inexpensive and really go far without much shrinking.

I also make a mexican-type dish - my take on something Rachel Ray did. Boil (or use leftover) chicken breasts, shred, add 1 package of salsa mix (I have also used taco seasoning but like the salsa better), add some cilantro to this. I use small corn tortillas that I quickly fry in a little oil just to make them pliable. Add the chicken to the tortillas, roll up like a cigar, line them all in a 13x9 and top with Chihuhua cheese (not sure on the spelling but any mexican melting cheese will do). STick them under the broiler to melt the cheese. I serve with salsa, a salad and/or rice. Kids love them too!
Just know there are those that will be thinking
xx
And if it's the one I'm thinking of,
it is also DELICIOUS!
This is exactly what I was thinking...sm

If someone does not show up or respond, especially when they are expected to, I would want to make sure they were okay.

Perhaps she is thinking of him...
I do not so much subscribe to putting down animals who seem happy enough. I really struggle with putting down an animal at all, unless death is eminent and unavoidable, i.e., a horse with a ruptured intestine. At the very least, keep in mind that it is ultimately her decision. I can't imagine trying to convince someone to kill her pet. My mother-in-law did this three years ago at Christmas time when my dog had hurt her back. She is old. She is still old--three years later--and her back is much better now.
It might mean that HE is thinking about you, how you
are managing in this difficult times. What terrible fact tht he does not want tio have ve anything to do with his child.
Would he know how to get into touch with you?
I am thinking no on this one also
name calling?
thanks for the info, LOL. I was thinking it was some
kind of food giveaway from the government, ya know, like the free cheese thing.  LOL
I was thinking more along the lines
poo maybe?

I'm curious to see what this really does mean.. LOL. First thing that came to my warped mind.
