I have had my phone number for 6+ years.
When I first received it I kept receiving calls from agencies for a specific person. I told them this was not their number, etc., and had no idea who this person was. After a while, they stopped calling; but now after 6 years I am getting them again for new debts, so this person is using my number (which may have been their old one) still. I just tell them I have had this number xxx years and this person repeatedly uses it for their info and eventually they quit calling. I did have to speak with a manager once, and after that they stopped.
Way to block phone number?
I just answered the phone and same ole, same ole company calling that I do not wish to talk with. If no return phone number comes in on my ID, is there some way after the fact of blocking this number out?
No, but I've let someone use my phone number....SM
Big mistake. We rented out our home for a while and let the renter use that home phone for outgoing calls. I forwarded my calls to my cell phone from this number. She couldn't receive calls, just could make calls. But, now I'm getting calls from bill collectors and I wonder how many databases my phone number is in due to her using my number. Won't do that again.
1 vote per phone number would be fair...sm
that way they'd really know what people think and not who has the fanciest speed dial modems that casts hundreds of votes per phone line.
Block his phone number and don't answer- sm
the door. Also get a restraining order if you have too. Call a doctor or hospital and find out what is necessary in terms of committment, stop threatening him and do it if you are legally able to. If you cannot then give him some phone numbers of services that can help him tell him he has to help himself. No wonder your mom divorced him, sounds like a 2-year-old who wants everything his way and takes utterly no responsibility for himself.
It may be a minor inconvenience but definitely get your phone number changed.
I went through a similar situation, but the guy I met and went out WITH FRIENDS with only ONCE went nuts on me and did the same thing, calling all hours of the day and night, showing up unannounced, at church when I picked up my daughter from Sunday school, he was sitting in a chair next to her and had no business even being there and didn't even go to my church. I asked the Sunday school teacher about it and she said he said he was my daughters stepfather! I said, no, he is not and he's nuts. I quit going to that church and I really liked that church, but I had to protect myself and my daughter. Finally, when I was at work he broke into my house, broke every pane of glass in all of my family photos hanging on the wall and stole some of my panties from my dresser and there was a note in my underwear drawer and it had the B word written on it. I was scared to death and I called the police and they arrested him. I was so upset that I moved to another city that was still within driving distance of my job, I changed my phone number, and my brother even got me a different car so he wouldn't know I still worked at the same place because he would drive by and see my car. When I got to work every morning, I parked out of sight and came in through the back instead of the front the way I used to. Oh, I also changed my last name to my grandmothers last name.
For the last several years I have lived in another state and am happily married to a very nice man, but I'll never forget that horrible experience in my life.
I would take his phone away or make him pay the bills for the phone
He can use the postal service to write her letters if he wants but there is no excuse. College is not highschool and if he's gonna make a go of it...be the parent and discipline....my opinion but take the phone away.
There WAS an emergency for me one Christmas Day..
I was cooking Christmas dinner for our family and my kitchen sink got completely clogged up. Apparently, garbage disposals can only handle so many peeled potato skins, which I did not know then. Husband tried plunging, son tried plunging. The only thing left to try was DrainO, which I did not have. Had my daughter go see if the grocery store was open (hoping, hoping, hoping that it was) and see if they had DrainO or similar brand, and to make sure it was safe for kitchens and garbage disposals.
As she left for the grocery, I was plotting Plan B - which would have been to finish making a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings by using a bathtub or the laundry tub. Of course, I could not put any garbage down those tubs.
The grocery WAS open. The Liquid Plumber DID work. My family and I did NOT have to eat a turkey that was washed and cleaned in a bathtub!
So, for me....Thank God for the grocery who is open on Christmas!!!
Emergency sick day!
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS just arrived by UPS!
How am I going to work now???
(kidding of course)
Go to the emergency room. That's what I ended
up doing for the same reason. I talked to my insurance company and he made me promise that I would go to the ER and tell them that I was in a mentally critical condition. They did give me anti-depressants although it does take a while for the full affect. At least you'll have something on board in the meantime. You should also be able to go to your PCP and get the same results. Whatever you do, go see a doctor. Either your PCP or go to the ER. They do understand and will help.
You will continue to be in my prayers.
I use only for emergency and quick calls. Pay $100 for yr.
a
I also use Tracfone as an emergency cell. sm
I use about 120 minutes every 3 months, average $10 a month. Occasionally out of my area I have to use double minutes, but I find it to be a great and uncomplicated service for my use. Have had it for a year. My DH also has one. He uses 400 minutes a month ($100), but he talks to everyone constantly. His choice.
Teen fashion emergency! :) SM
OK, please help if you can. My son and I are clueless when it comes to "cool" fashions. His friends sorta teased him today and said he is really uncool (uncool haircut, clothes, shoes). They jokingly said they were going to do an extreme makeover on him. I laughed at first, but then thought, "Hey! That's not half bad!" He is starting high school in the fall, and I would like to help him with a makeover this summer. He is a nice looking kid, just got his braces off (so has a really nice smile), a little bit on the husky side, but his clothes and shoes are Walmart specials. He is just a basic "boy" hair cut.
What is "cool" for boys? Where should we shop? What kind of haircut is cool for a 15-year-old boy? I'm so clueless!
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Use of emergency contact info
You know how when you go to the dentist office, enroll your child in day care, fill out a job application, everyone wants contact information "in case of emergency." Maybe I'm different from everyone else, but I consider an emergency as defined by my falling to the floor clutching my chest while my lips turn blue and I can't talk, or falling down 5 flights of steps, or being hit by a car...you get the idea.
I no longer have a good relationship with my mother (75) because she is getting senile. I can't trust that anything she knows about me won't make the gossip curcuit as the truth or something totally different, plus she wants to die on her own property without anyone else another and be found days later by some unknown stranger who notices her body out in the yard...so I don't visit, either. Last time I visited, her whole face was black and blue because she had passed out and fallen face down on a concrete pad where she stayed until the next day when she was finally able to stand up and go inside, then hide from the world for almost a month...I happened to visit her within a week of it happening. I don't want to be the one who finds her dead on another visit.
The reason this is important is because of a legal situation that I am in totally unrelated to her and I have a gag order on me...and she can't talk to me without taking "no" for an answer when she quizzes me about it, which she will do every single time we talk. So, I've just had to say, have a nice life, love you, let instructions to my sister to call me if anyone needs me.
Now it comes back to those old applications I filled out. My phone number changed and my dentist used my mother's "emergency" contact information to try to reach me, going into great detail the nature of why they were calling. It was just my 6 months cleaning, but I didn't even schedule it because I was moving and changing jobs and couldn't predict if I could keep an appointment 6 months in the future. So my mother calls my ex-husband, my ex-mother-in-law, trying to reach me for this "emergency". My ex-hubby called me.
This is so embarrasing to me. If someone dies, let my sister call me. I don't know what to do or how else to get across to her that she doesn't have the right to interfere in my affairs. The dentist office made the first wrong, and her trying to "save" me was the next one. I'm almost 50 years old and I think I can take care of myself, thank you very much. I let the dentist office have it with both barrels. That was abuse of a reason to call my mother as an "emergency" and they have taken her info out of their system. I have even had to change physicians because my mother and I had the same primary care, and all my visits were relayed to her by the staff..."oh, your daughter looked so good when she was here last week!", which prompts a phone call to my ex-hubby. ARRRGH!! Violation of HIPAA!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this? I'm almost at the point of having a lawyer draft a letter to her. I'm past the point of feeling bad about hurting her feelings as she shows no consideration for mine.
She can request emergency leave.
My husband is active duty Air Force, so I know a little bit about the military. As far as I know, she can request emergency leave because of the situation with her infant. Also, I do not think they just give military mom's a year off because they had a baby. I know several women that are active duty military that have had children, and they are given the same amount of maternity leave as a civilian.
Emergency Communications Dispatcher
cab driver must have been crazy!! :)
Being a 911 dispatcher was both my most exciting, stressful, fun, and worst job ive ever had so it definitely wins. Although I have really only had two jobs in my life, that and MT, so I mean... LOL.
In my town we worked both the fire and police radios, answered business calls as well as 911 calls. I liked working the fire side more because people were nicer. the 911 calls for fire/ambulance were much more likely to say "thank you" at the end rather than a hang up on you for the police side.
I have many stories about the calls we'd get and working police chases, on foot and car...
I've thought about going back to it now that Transcriptionist isn't what it used to be... and they can't outsource that job!
Give it a few days. They may be away, have an emergency, blizzard, etc. nm

Call the Humane Society or Emergency Vet
Tell them what happened, that the owners are not home, and you are afraid the dog is critically injured. They will then send someone to check on the dog and do what needs to be done.
As far as your neighbors being mad at you for hitting their dog, it is their responsibility to make sure their animals are safely confined. NOT taking a nap in the road.
Don't let the poor beastie suffer for their ignorance. Please call to see if the dog can be helped.
What saved the folks on the edge was pulling up the emergency brake

number one cause of
Is cheap soap. Cough it up for some Tide brand or something dye/fragrance free and use plain ole Ivory soap.
Then I would wash everything in the house in hot water, including the drapes and have the carpets cleaned, just in case it is from the dogs.
The person who last had our number...sm
still uses it, so we get calls for her all the time! We got this number over a year ago when we moved and constantly get calls for her. We always tell them this is not her number anymore, but I guess lately she's been using it to give to loan places because they told us this. They apologize but it still stinks. She has a lot of debt out there, especially for school loans. We don't want to change it, though, and go through the same thing again and having to tell everyone our new number for nothing. We're also signed up at the Do Not Call website.
that was more than a number of years ago...nm

It should be 3fatchicks.com (have to use the number)

Is there a way to block a number...sm
from calling your house if that caller is calling from a cell phone. My mom has tried to block my dad from calling her house and it says this number cannot be blocked. I was also gonna block his # from my phone as well. I know it sounds terrible but my husband just came home today from working out of town and we were trying to watch TV and spend time together. My dad wouldn't quit calling. I mean we are talking every 10 minutes. I answered it about 4 times thinking he would quit calling if I talked to him. No he would just keep calling. And I am not exaggerating -- it was every 10-15 minutes. It will make you want to throw the phone out the window. All he says when I answer is I'm bored. I am like ok and why don't you watch TV or call a friend or something. He will literally keep calling and say I am just so bored. I can't take this. Why won't your mama take me back? Blah Blah Bhlah. My mom said a call from a cell phone can't be blocked. There has to be something I can do. I was gonna block my house # and if he keeps calling my cell I can just turn it off. Does anyone know a way to block a cell phone call?
call this number if you care so much...

or go to www.one.org
or savethechildren.org
THIS IS WHAT AMERICAN IDOL WAS DOING LAST NIGHT - COLLECTING MONEY OF which half was going to the poverty-stricken in the USA and the other half to Africa.
This was such a non-superficial American Idol...but again, did you even watch?
Josh Groban brought some of us to tears with those African children singing with him, as did Carrie Underwood in Africa with the children - very touching indeed...to say the least.
If you have their number call them back
I recently bought a repo'd house, and I have been getting constant calls from the creditors of the former owner...how and why they got MY phone number is probably not very legal, based on the address I presume, as I put myself on the "do not call list" the minute I got my new phone number. Capitol 1 in particular was calling me every single day at the crack of dawn (I work 2nd shift) wanting this guy. Finally I wrote down every number that had been calling me on a log and started calling them back, and behold it was the same company calling from a different number every time! I began insisting on speaking to supervisors and threatening them with a harrassment lawsuit. They promised to stop, and then started again in 2 weeks. So I started calling them back again. For now it has stopped, but I don't know for how long. I guess I'll be getting mail and phone calls for this guy forever more (he recently subscribed to some magazines and they're all being sent here). Sure would like to meet him in person and force him to fill out a change of address form!
now divide that over the number of taxpayers
and don't forget to figure in her tuition that we will all be paying. SICKENING!
Just the opposite for me - 13 is my lucky number,
Same goes for odd-numbered years. Those almost always go well for me, and without fail, even-numbered ones are the pits.
There was a time a number of years ago -
when everything was so frustrating at work, at home, and everywhere else, I came within a heartbeat of just getting in the car and leaving EVERYTHING behind: Abandoning my job, my friends, my family, my apartment, even the pets in my apartment. EVERYTHING. Just leaving and becoming somebody else, somewhere else.
But I decided to give it just ONE MORE DAY. The next day I called in sick and didn't go to work, just to give myself one more day to think about it, and to pack and close out my bank account, just in case I was really going to do it.
The next day I went in to work, and guess WHAT? The boss had been fired! From that point on, things started looking up, so I stayed.
A number of years ago I was discussing
tubal versus vasectomy with the assistant pastor's wife. They had 3 kids and were done, but her hubby didn't want the vasectomy. Someone had told him it increased prostate cancer risk or something like that. News to me. Anyway, she really did not want a tubal because she had seen her mother suffer so terribly after hers, and her mother eventually had to have a hysterectomy. That was the first I had ever heard of such a side effect, but I didn't forget it, and have since heard many people describe the same thing.
A vasectomy makes so much more sense if you are paying out of pocket. My husband's insurance was through a Catholic organization so we had to pay ourselves, which is why we chose that option.
It's not a psychological problem. It's just not a side effect that everyone has.

I have a trac phone and get aritime cards every three months. I can get 120 minutes for I believe $29.99 and it's worked out very well for me.
Phone call of the day ....sm
ME: Hello?
CALLER: Hello, does anyone at your home speak English?
ME: What? Of course I speak English. I was born and raised in the US and speak no other language. Why do you ask?
CALLER: I'm so sorry ma'am. This is Jody with the Police Benevelance fund and we'd like to ask for a contribution for.....
ME (immediately cutting her off): Ma'am, how dare you have the audacity to call my home, ask me if I speak English and then want to ask me for a donation? Donkeys would fly before I'd give your organization a penny as you have now totally insulted me, a bona-fide English speaking American Citizen - one without an accent other than being Southern.
Can you believe it? My husband stood there shaking his head as I let into this lady. It's bad enough to call somewhere and hear "press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish...." but to have someone call you and ask if you speak English is absurd.
call your phone co and ask if they have....
I have privacy director from bellsouth and also am on the donotcall.gov list and phone#. However, I continually get a call with no one speaking from a SEBELL - I looked up SEBELL and it's a telecommunications company that once got into big trouble - with telemarketing - and now it *looks* as though they are back. The only thing I could do with that number was STAR (*) 60 which blocks only 6 telephone numbers via bellsouth.
Would it be possible to ask the phone company--sm
to come out and inspect your line? I don't see where a lawyer would be any good at this point, until something is either proven or disproven. Good luck.
I had it on my cell phone too! lol

Depends on what phone you have but sometime
you can see where it send return message highlight that and hit okay type your message and it should say send somewhere on the screen and make sure to hit the quick key button for that.
How many of you use only a cell phone? sm
We're going totally wireless in our house next week after our alarm company converts our system to a radio one. The cell companies in our area have finally gotten the offers down to where it's cheaper to go cellular exclusively than pay a cell and regular phone bill. What about you?
