Kilz primer will let you paint over it, but wear mask. Good idea to paint it.

yes, and he has funky ears too.
when his hair was shorter you could see them better.

I started watching a couple years ago on and off and now I am hooked.

I am glad Nick and Taylor got married today, and he did not give in to Brooke. Can you image someone being like that in real life? So pathetic. ICK.
Border Collie...
That decoration in the window...  The snowman....  Is that old?  That was the one I got to hang in my window when I was a child and every year from the time I can remember...  Is it a hard plastic?  What sweet memories!  Oh, your dog looks like Snoopy doing that on the chair!    Happy Holidays!  Beautiful tree too!
Check out my Border Collie...

She was a starving stray when she came by our house last year.  She had ticks and worms and her ribs were showing.

The picture is of how she sleeps. Sometimes she sleeps with one paw in the air.  This is the chair my husband bought just for her to sleep in. No, she is not spoiled...

My feeling is if you step outside the border, you're
I don't want my tax dollars spent in some rescue or investigation because you went to a country you didn't have to and that was deemed dangerous.

Why would you even ask here? Why not contact the State Department about it?

Yes, innocent tourists are killed. Are they prime targets? Haven't been in the past but in order to get ahead, put nothing past them.

I just don't see spending money to rescue anyone or trying to investigate a disappearance, etc. We have enough problems here. You're on your own.

Didn't watch...but what is this funky "Pick-Up Artist" about?
Anyone watch this? I happened to see an episode last night while flippin' thru the channels. What a loser putz this "Mystery" guy and his cohorts are!!! If any one of them had come up to me when I was in the dating world I would have laughed out loud and looked for the candid camera! I could not believe the crap they were feeding these poor guys they are supposedly "enlightening".

I got a great belly laugh from watching the guy lisp on about conquests, pick-ups, and the meaning of medallions, but I don't think that was the true intent of the show. LOL
I found them! Those funky 1970s plastic decorations

It was driving me absolutely nuts and I finally found out what they are called!  Google or do a search on E-Bay for 'Melted plastic popcorn decorations' and see what you find!  I'm gonna try and make a bid for one or two because after seeing that one in 'MT of Oz' picture there, I suddenly felt this NEED to have one again!

Thanks for reviving happy memories MT of Oz!!

They don't eat the trim.
They have chosen a spot in the middle of her porch, which is all wooden. My dad even tried replacing it with different types of wood. I think they just enjoyed the variety. I think I'm in one of the lowest populated states...Montana. lol
I wouldn't trim it beforehand either.
But add some pineapple slices with toothpicks and maraschino cherries to that brown sugar and cloves and you've got yourself one goodtastin' ham...
The medicated Gold Bond is great for damp funky navels and

No, but I do trim her nails once a month.
.
I will trim my wick and see if that works!
x
I wouldn't try to trim it prior to roasting...

That's what keeps the meat nice and moist and adds all that yummy flavor!  (course, I'm kind of a fattie from good 'ol home cookin' so take my advice on that with a grain of salt).

fabric softener
I always miss that dumb rinse cycle!! Then I don't want to rerinse because that fills up the septic tank even more. I ended up using around 4 dryer sheets just because I like the smell so much. LOL.
Yes, a 5 month old baby girl. Makes me wonder, too, if Trim Spa had anything sm
to do with her death. I've always been very leary about taking diet pills for fear of what it does to your heart. Synthetic medications taken over long periods of time cannot be good for you, which is why I stopped taking them after Metabolife almost took my life 5 years ago. I was on it for about a month and drank a Coke with 2 pills and I literally felt like my heart was going to explode - severe, profuse sweating, palpitations, vomiting.

Anyways, just speculation, but she did use it daily, according to an interview I watched. Poor gal. No more pain for her anymore at least.
Can you rub fabric softner sheets on it?

I do that with my animals actually to help them with the static in winter.  Or a spray bottle with water and some liquid fabric softner squirted over things.  Easier and cheaper than 'Static Guard' in a can.

Good luck and congrats on your new furniture!

Fabric softner - a health hazard??

I was sent an email by a friend concerning the hazards of fabric softner last night.  I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this?  The article he sent to me was from Allergy and Environmental Health Association (http://aeha.ca/help-with.htm)

He was also talking to an associate who has having many health issues.  He awoke one morning with a "texas-shaped" lump and redness on his neck.  He went to the doctor the next day and the doctor suggested that he go home and look at his pillow and call him back and tell him what he found.  There was a dry sheet in his pillow case - and you guessed it - in the shape of Texas.  His doctor told him that it was unbelievable the illnesses that are caused by fabric softener.

It seems like there are some many things you shouldn't eat, you shouldn't use, and the list goes on.  Sometimes I think we are doomed if we do and doomed if we don't.  I guess it is an issue of pick and choose.  Does anyone know an alternative for fabric softener?

By the way - If you don't want to look at this article for any other reason, look at it for the great list of alternatives for cleaning without using chemicals.  They have a great list and it is quite lengthy.  I printed it off just to have for a household reference!

fabric softener anyone? Bounce sheets?

so towels do get that musty odor.......but I find fabric softener works REALLY well.......no complaints so far

oh and I use TIDE with bleach (also works on colored clothes) for washing......(but I love the smell of Gain, just think Tide washes better)

Need to watch the patterning of the fabric when cutting it up,

I found a template at the fabric store - sm
It makes cutting a lot easier and faster. My husband is now addicted, LOL. We made one blanket Friday, another one Saturday, another one Sunday, and we have the material for one more.
sheets or liquid fabric softener?
do you find that one is better than the other with line drying?
I wouldn't trim beforehand either. Just wanted to second the pineapple-brown sugar preparation
toothpicks & maraschino cherries. I place the ham in the center of the pan, do the "diamond" studding with cloves, surround the ham with pineapple slices (have to admit it, I use the ones in heavy syrup),& then off & on sprinkle more brown sugar on top of the ham & pineapples & use a baster to douse the ham with the juices. Hubby had never had a ham prepared that way before let alone with pineapple - now he looks forward to it!! Guess my age and teachings are really showing here :o)
Local fabric shop has a lady who gives classes. (sm)
She has been quilting for what she says is "100 years" and was an invaluable teacher. The hands-on experience on hand quilting was great. I don't think I could have picked it up from a book at all. Watching her rock the needle was just like a feathery quiver, gentle and efficient. I hope when I retire I can perfect this myself.
Flowers
I've had several close people die and frankly everyone bringing food is a good thought but we had to go to shelters to get rid of a lot of it.
Flowers for you!

Hi Hayseed!

I don't have your email address anymore, so I will send you to see flowers I chose for you!  Have a great day!  Hope this works.

Thank you for all your help in the past.  I really appreciated it!

Oh you're killin' me with those flowers!

Man, it's gonna be weeks before we even see a hint of green, as first we have to go through "mud season" up here.  April showers usually follow March's snow melt and boy oh boy is it a mess!   I do think my pussy willows are about to come into bud and that's always a treat :)  Usually it starts really greening up in May, but no one dares go outside to confirm it because of the friggin' black flies!

  Ah, gotta love New England!

I planted flowers! Too bad we were supposed
to be buying grass seed. We completely forgot the grass seed, and bought impatiens and flowering ground covers and tall blue flowering plants and some purple accent plants. Got some dirt too, and got on the road and said GRASS SEED?!!

I got the impatiens in, moved a dwarf hydranga that has never flowerered where it it is, and a put in a few other flowers and it started sprinkling and getting dark, so I had to come inside.

It was fun playing in the dirt again. But it's grass we need to make our yard look better. It's just not as fun as FLOWERS! http://forum.mtstars.com/smileys/cutelaugh.gif
I have no clue as to what type the flowers are
just know they are a beautiful shade of purple, hopefully still are. I just brought some English ivy back from his home and plan on planting that in something containable because would not put outside to run. Also, get this, I will have flowers galore when I finish. I am going to get some of his purple iris when they lose their bloom (which is July or the next 2 months) but I have places to put those out at my home. Just wish I could bring 1 of his big ole magnolia trees home. By the way south Georgia but do not know my zone- have seen on a planting map before but just not sure right now. My hydrangea, by the way, has bloomed big at the bottom of the plant but last years limbs are just dead- is this what they normally do? I really babied this plant, put covers over it when had some early frost so have really tried with it.
Do you mean cut flowers to bring inside,
or do you want an inside plant that blooms?

I am an outside gardener myself. If it's outside flowers you are interested, where do you live or what is your zone?
Late summer flowers
Maine is probably in the same zone as Siberia, so these may not work for you in Indiana.

My garden is now finally in full bloom, though we have not had the heat like the rest of the country and every day starts with fog. It is a very pleasant 75 degrees here right now and sunny.

Perennials currently blooming: Tall phlox, Rose of Sharon, butterfly bush, day lilies, yellow roses. Asters are loaded with buds. I put my indoor plants out for the summer and my Christmas cactus is huge and in full bloom!

Annuals: Geraniums, pansies (they came back full force after 'resting' in late June/July), inpatients, cosmos, trailing licorice, sunflowers, petunias, Helio double-pinks, phlox.
I don't allow my husband to buy overpriced flowers...sm
that day. When we were engaged he made the mistake of ordering flowers and we'll just say it turned into quite an ordeal that before it was over with I ended up with 13 dozen roses and couldn't get them to stop sending them every day or 2 (he ordered 1 small arrangement without roses and it went crazy from there!).

We'll probably just grill some steaks and swap out small gifts, nothing extravagant.
Thank you - belated card and flowers to you :-) sm
I can't figure out why some people get treated well and others don't. I think maybe those of us who take care of others a lot are just taken for granted...I just don't know what it is. Thank you for caring!
i was told mine is half jack russell half border collie
AND HE SURE LIVES UP TO THAT HYPERACTIVITY!!!
IGood smelling plants/flowers?
I love nice smell! I have loads of green plants in my home but would like to have ideas of something I can have on a regular basis inside that gives off a nice fragance. I do not have a clue as to what to buy and I would really like to know of something that would not require too much care. I can do the plants but do not have much of a green thumb. Thanks!

delivered from the local florist to my house. It was sweet.

The problem is that these drapes have pastelly pattern of flowers - sm
which I think is a beautiful pattern and at the time I had them made I figured she would not outgrow the pattern, but apparently she has. Now I have these really expensive drapes that I don't want to give up, but she is upset because she does not want them anymore. I thought if I could "paint" them or dye them with some other pattern, we could keep them and she and I would both be happy....[sigh]
Anyone have any ideas on how to clean artificial plants, flowers?
I do have the real things in my home but in the bedroom I have several plants and/or flowers that really need a good dusting. I do not think I should put them under water. I would rather have the real plants all over the house but have to be careful of some because of my furkids. Thanks!
Paint it!

I've encountered both real-wood paneling and cheap'o pressed (remanufactured?) paneling and several in between.  I absolutely hate paneling!

If it is real wood or at all pourous you could scrub with Murphy's oil soap or something similar.

I've always opted to paint it.  You'll most definitely need to invest in a decent primer and use a decent quality paint as well.  If you try to just paint it (even with good quality paint) you'll end up having to put a half-dozen coats on and that is a lot of work!

There is also a thick, stiff paper covering that you can put on it, it goes on like wallpaper and then paint over that, or leave plain if you'd prefer.  That can turn into a pretty expensive route because that covering is pretty expensive when you get the thick kind that will cover the cracks in the paneling and not let them show through.  That stuff comes in different thicknesses for various uses, so you would need to be sure to get the thick one that will smooth over the cracks, it usually tells in the "used for" section if it works for covering paneling.  If you don't mind seeing the cracks, then I'd say PAINT IT!

Good luck.

I am not sure there is a *paint* for --sm
painting china, as most of these items are glazed and fired in a kiln. Paint would wash off in a dishwasher, etc. Perhaps go to a ceramic shop and have one glazed for you in a pattern you choose. This is just a thought. good luck to you.
paint
Some people do pain the ceilings the same color but i think most just leave it white. I personally would leave it white. Don't overdo the green, i think you would be sorry.

How come that she spilled this paint on the floor?
Was there no cover on the can?
The mother of the girl is not responsible for what happens in your house.
Also not that she dragged all the paint into your house.
If you have children as guests in your house, you are responsible for what happens and you have to supervise them.
Where were you? Where were you wandering around?
If something happened to the child, it could have been your responsibility.
You should have secured this can of paint before the children arrive.

And what do you mean by 'disrespectful'?
You should have been downstairs.

paint colors..

Go to sites like Lowes.com click project center, interactive disign tools and try Armstrong design-a-room or olympic paint color guide.  These will give good tips as well as let you select colors and see them on walls and ceiling to see what they look like.

I recently remodeled.  Hubby's childhood home.  He had never seen anything but white wall anywhere.  I love to cook so afterwards we looked back and paint names were sage, olive, thyme, ginger peach, merlot, moonshine.

They have a paint calculator there as well to make sure you don't over buy, but we did buy extra for later touch ups or "oopses" that happen.

Most stores now have a computer that you can take your pillow sham or comforter in and they can scan the color content and either mix the almost exact color you want or tell you which ones they have in stock that match.

Some recommend mixing paint with your white to match a little closer for ceiling.  My ceilings were all ultrawhite.  I loved the crisp white feeling.  Hubby said looked like crayola box exploded.  I figured okay so what if it made it look a little smaller?  The room is the same size.  (mainly for selling factors).  I said if I paint it where it looks big and still stump my toe on furniture what difference does it make, it is still the same size room!  But I was happy with my choices.

Congrats! If you want some paint fun

go to the various paint companies websites (I like Behr) and fool around with their virtual rooms and color combos.  They also have good tips for the how-to of it.   Enjoy your new digs!

From the picture you paint, it is SM
hopeless. No man wants to get divorced. This may sound funny, but they don't. Even if they hate the woman they are married to. I should know. I was a perfect housekeeper, but everything you said in your note applied to me. May have been married to the same man!

If you have been to counseling four times, I would say you gave it your best shot.

However, how old are your children? It is very hard raising kids alone. Can you stay there until they are older? High school? I was a long suffering woman, until my daughter graduated from high school. I am much older and we were taught to stay for the sake of the children.

Believe me, I know it is not easy to leave; but it does get a LOT easier once the children are grown.

You have a lot to think about and my heart goes out to you, because I was once where you are.
Paint chips as a child
No - did you - you're an MT aren't you - that equates to insanity the way I see it.
I gave away tons of paint that I
no longer wanted, someone asking for and told them take all or nothing. They did and it helped me clean out my garage. I saw a trailer someone was giving away -the kind some folks live in. I have been trying to get my hubs to get some free mulch- they have that all the time.
and I could paint with my feet if I had no arms
the question is if I had a choice, I think I would choose to have arms.
Any tips on getting paint out of carpet? sm
My daughter had a party tonight with probably 10 kids here.  One of the girls spilled a can of paint in the garage they were using for their "haunted house" and stepped all in it.  Rather than staying outside until she got the paint off with the water hose, she tracked it all into my house!  I am furious!  Of course, she wasn't wearing her shoes.  She was playing and put my 16-yo's shoes on.  I highly doubt she would go tracking through her home with paint on the bottom of her feet and she even came upstairs laughing saying I stepped in that paint that we spilled.  I said then what are you doing tracking it all through my house, get in the bathroom and wash it off!  She is 12 years old and should know better. Kids these days are so disrespectful.........Any tried and true tips for getting paint out of carpet?  Should I say something to her parents?  This is the same child I almost sent home earlier today because she slapped my 9-yo son and I did call her mom about that and informed her of what happened and if I had any more incidences out of her she was going home.  Hitting is not allowed in my house period!  Geez, can I say this child will not be a vistor at my house anymore!
