We don't know that, because, hello - it's a private matter for them.   I only know about the Depakote because I read about it.  If they tried that, I am going to go on the assumption that they tried others.  He was having breakthrough seizures even on the Depakote and the side effects were tremendous.  It sounds to me like they have to make a choice - seizures or a child that was medicated past the point of functioning and enjoying life.
