I wish I had more neighbors like you!...sm
You obviously have a good heart and good intentions. I'm also a sort of paranoid person but not to things like that. Every year, I mail Christmas cards to our families and only get a few. DH's family doesn't ever send out cards. I always say I'm done doing cards, but then what would that prove? That is me and I won't change me. I want my kids to grow up and do the same. Don't change. And I also believe in karma!
Neighbors
Unfortunately, this seems to be the way these days. I moved into my house 10 years ago and the people around me were older and very friendly, everyone knew everyone and people helped each other. All we had to do was ask. Now, most of the people around me have moved out and new younger neighbors have moved in. Nobody speaks to anybody else except to complain about something, and I have found that they would much rather complain than do something to correct the problems. I have tried to put together a neighborhood watch based on people telling me they would be interested... only to have nobody call to confirm they would be coming after I made an appointment.
What I would do is give more to the people or organizations who you KNOW appreciate what you do for them, and just not worry about the rest. You are not a bad neighbor, we are just few and far between these days. Things are definitely not like they used to be, too much is happening and people are cautious. I would not waste a minute being depressed over this, they sure are not worrying about you! I thought the reason people decorated their houses was for it to look nice, you are just appreciating what they did and saying so. Nothing wrong that I can see.
Hope you feel better soon, and I sincerely appreciate what you do with your donations to the animal rescuers.
My neighbors do that too!! LOL (nm)

my neighbors are all
anal retentive fuss-buttons. I guess it could be worse, they could be a bunch of messy, dirty people. They're not very friendly though. They're all older and retired, and we're younger and still work, so I feel they don't respect us.
How are your neighbors
Well it started off to be a wonderful day. I made myself a cup of coffee, grabbed a new book I wanted to start reading, and just wanted to sit on my back porch and relax in the morning breeze and listen to the birds, but 5 minutes later it just went downhill. Problem is my neighbors have now decided to play music quite loud. It wasn't loud enough that you would call the police over, but they opened their back window and their back window is right next to my back porch (which is the only area in the house to be able to sit out at. So forget about reading and the peace and quiet. Came inside and the neighbors on the other side decided to mow their law, and then neighbors next to them are hedge trimming. So, now im on the puter looking up other places to live that are a little more in the country where neighbors are not so close (right now if I was to talk to one neighbor the other 4 neighors on all sides of me would hear the conversation. I grew up in the country where the closest neighbor was my grandparents and it took us 5 minutes to walk to their house - so I really really really miss the peace and quiet.
Wanted to know what other people think of their neighbors and if they get equally uptight when their neighbors place loud music (and its not like classical or smooth jazz or anything - it's party music, lots of bass and drums and chipmunk voices singing). Oh yes we have another neighbor who decides to mow his lawn between 8:30 and 9 pm, and the other neighbor across the street (we call him Mike the Mechanic) has opened a car repair thingy at his house (but no business signs) and he's rebuilding engines, sodering, banging and clunking with people showing up at 10 pm and later and they'll be out talking and working on cars. Drives us nuts! And on top of that school is not even out yet and there are lots of neighborhood kids that scream and play on the weekends (some are funny and a delight to watch, and some are obnoxious), so know once summer vacation hits it will be worse (we moved in last September so we don't know what the summers are like yet).
Is anyone else like us and does anyone think there is any place in America that you can get some peace and quiet from all the noise.
My neighbors
and I have talked to her quite a bit. Her husband is also out of town most of the time so she is on her own. She has home schooled 3 kids total. I believe she is down to 1 now. From what she has told me the biggest thing is to have a strict schedule, just like the children would at public school. They still have to wake up early mornings and keep school hours. They don't get to take random days off because they just don't want to do school now or something else comes up. SHe also kept an area of the home for "school" with desks for more structure and privacy. She also said when her husband is home he enforces the homework to give her a break. She has also said there are a lot of home schooling websites and organizations out there. She does field trips and everything like normal school would. Apparentnly they are easily found online. Hope that helps but sorry I can't say from experience.
Let me tell you about my old neighbors..
Sorry it's long.... We live in a nice quiet subdivision in Central Florida, lots of kids, big parks, nice people, have lived here 22 years and most of neighbors here for 15+ years...well used to be. My best friend/cousin is Deputy Police Chief of city so stops in regularly. My neighbors across the street moved in 2-1/2 years ago, drove a Cadillac Escalade, worked at Wal-Mart. Got to know them a bit. Found out they bought their house for cash because the father won a few hundred thousand in the the lottery. FOund out they did drugs and kept my distance. Hubby lost job so they got a new hobby, breeding pit bulls. Nothing like seeing a yard full of pit bulls every few months. Animal control put a stop to that as did the owner of the female pit bull dog, whose dog they stole to breed.
Last year in January traded Cadillac in for brand new mustang which someone crashed into a wall 3 weeks later, had no insurance on it and that was their downfall from there. Totaled mustang stayed in front yard up on blocks for 6 months or more before they sold it for 2000. COde enforcement came and went with them.
They like to drink A LOT and play rap music..boom boom boom until 3, 4, sometimes 5 in the morning. Wife doesnt work or does work until she quits, gets fired. Convicted of welfare fraud, found this out by searching for convicted felons/child abusers/sex predators in my neighborhood one day. The couple like to fight daily, police called constantly. They also liked to do drugs and soon a family of 2 adults 3 kids turned into tons of people hanging out daily and/or moving in. It was really nice to see another person moving in to their house walking on the sidewalk towards their house carrying their garbage bag full of clothes/stuff. Rap music started playing loudly from 10 a.m. on, cars stopping in their driveway and driving off as fast as they stopped. Cops now becoming aware of what is going and watching the drug dealers. A few busted, sent to jail but out of jail as fast as they go in.
The week before last Thanksgiving their electric was turned off because they were caught stealing it and then the water soon followed. Both companies had to put locks on it because they kept trying to turn them back on. They kept stealing our water, we think. Somehow our hoses outside would get turned on at night and we would find them on in the morning. After 2-3 weeks with no electric I called child neglect hotline as I think it is neglect, turns out it is not but the state gives them a generator that they run for 12 hours a day. Love the sound a generator makes but a lot less aggravating than rap music.End of March, one of their great new roomies was arrested for murder but we all know he didnt do it, he was framed, he's a good boy, he wouldnt do that (what every person says when arrested for a serious crime)
Then May 5, 2008, the greatest day EVER. They had to move out. It's never nice to see a house foreclosed on but for once I was so happy to see a family go along with their hanger ons. Their customers, I mean friends keep stopping when I am outside asking me where Kevin went. I tell them to try the local jail.
Your mom's neighbors should not have...sm
dogs if they can't have a fenced in yard to keep them in their yard. Nobody wants someone elses dogs coming over making messes in the thrash and trying to bite and going to the bathroom in their yard. Dog owners should be responsible but not all are.
Are we neighbors?
Mine gives away stuff too, her husband doesn't know, and now that they are retiring their credit card debt is a big problem.
that would be right - if neighbors esp are Russian
We had new neighbors move in who
had a similar theory about what was acceptable.
They had a habit walking into their neighbors houses without knocking. My parents were too polite to say anything, so they were clueless that they found it appalling. We didn't normally lock the doors when we were home, but to keep them out, we kids started locking them when everybody was inside, just to befuddle the barging-in neighbors. One time my dad had been working in the yard, and he was doing his usual change out of his work pants at the back door. He had privacy because he would announce he was changing, and close the door at the top of the stairs so that he had closed doors on 3 sides (door to garage, closed back door, closed door into rest of house, and open doorway into the unfinished basement. The clueless new neighborgirl decided to have a visit, came thru the open (big) garage door and opened the door into the house, where my dad stood, crouching with pants around his ankles. Oh the bellow that came out of him!
That new neighborgirl did drop by and barge in quite so often after that ...
anyone have trouble with their neighbors...????
beginning to wonder if there could be anything worse to have to put up with. I have been dealing badly with these people for almost 2 years now and am in the process of remodling to sell out and find a better spot to live. my neighbor is going down hill quick. what used to be the all american suburb, has turned into trash neighbors...sorry had to vent!!!!
No, I just said I feel sorry for your neighbors.
nm
Thanking god for my neighbors.
I got lucky when I bought my house about four years ago and am surrounded by home owners. Many of our houses are duplexes or duplexes converted into single dwellings (like mine). We had one bad group down the street on the corner (the landlord lived next door) and they were almost impossible to get out he spent gobs of money to get them out and in the mean time they trashed his property. The neighbors all kicked in to help him repair. This time he checked all the references and made sure none were bogus it took an extra month of the property being empty but he has had no problems with them and they are extending their lease and other than that home there is only one other house that rents and the owner (a sherriff) lives on one side and rents the other. My suggestion is try to move into a neighborhood that has very limited or restricts renting.
VEGETATION AND NEIGHBORS
Hi: Do you know them? If you do, have you said anything? If you haven't then assure them that you "don't mind" if they come on your land to cut back their vine. If this is not a possibility, then get some of that vegetation killer and put it on the vines on your side. I think some of them even will go back to the root, so maybe it will kill the vine on their side too. That might not be all bad for you. So, when it is all gone on your side, re-landscape your areas and dig down with one of those sprinkler shovels (the ones that cut and look like a pancake turner straightened out) and put a barrier, like chicken wire or something more solid. I think they hve plastic things for that at Home Depot. I guess it wouldn't help your lawn if the roots are all in it,, but maybe you could cut and roll it back and put in some Zoysia grass if it is legal in your area or another grass lawn. I have a trumpet vine I have been nursing along for 4 years and the weather is so bad here that it is still a tiny thing. Maybe I should pull it out?
yep, friendly with ALL my neighbors
x
Are you sure you aren't one of my neighbors?
Sure do have the same attitude. Have a good day!
Friendly with all the neighbors except
for the ones directly across the street - they are loud, obnoxious, lazy and don't know the meaning of the word neighbor and are raising their 2 kids to be the same.
Personally, I have neighbors who are sm
teachers. The rule in the high school here is that Cell Phones are to be turned off while the students are in the classroom. If it rings, it is confiscated. I totally agree with that rule. School is for learning, not text messaging, etc. However, in case of an emergency, of course, they should have the ability to dial out in an EMERGENCY situation.
How many neighbors could you borrow something from?
If you're baking a cake and run out of sugar or an egg or something similar.
I've got three.
Is it because of the neighbors in general
or just that you don't want to impose on anyone? I have 3 that I can borrow from and have. My very best friend who lived across the street up until last year was someone I always went to and vice versa. We could borrow anything from each other and I mean anything. We joke with each other all the time now when I need to borrow something really crazy that I wish she was still here because if I asked the others, they'd think I was nuts.
Neighbors want tax breaks because
they say this purple house is bringing down property values of their own homes.
PS: I think the neighbors have a problem with a
People I know who've relocated from Calif. to Washington (or Oregon) felt they had to change their car's license plates on crossing the state line, in order to avoid persecution. Usually folks tend to blame Calif. for their property values (and TAXES) going UP.
My parents have horrible neighbors.
They are nice people, but their three daughters are always dressed in dirty clothes. You will often see one of the girls out in the yard with no clothes on and they are old enough they should have clothes on. There back yard is totally trashed. They have junk thrown everywhere and the kids are out there playing in the junk with dirty or no clothes on. They have several dogs that they can't keep pinned in and we often find them in my parent's yard taking a dump or just walking around. They had two goats and when my dad caught one in my mom's garden, he shot it with a BB gun. They had two ponies in their back yard, which isn't big enough for one pony let alone two, and the one pony had what looked like a old tuna can stuck to its hoof. They never mow the front yard. They have junk all over the front of the house. I don't even want to think about what the inside of the house looks like. Their dogs come over and my mom has tripped and fallen over them as she suffers from MS and her balance is not good. Both the parents have dark long brown hair and if you see them from the back, the only way to tell them apart is by their tattoos. My mom has called the humane society about the animals several times. Nothing has been done. I told my mom to start shooting animals at random as they enter her yard. LOL!
that is sort of the way we started off with our neighbors...
but, then we started to see the real THEM!!!!!, time after time after time...thats why that saying that dr. Phil uses is so true "good fences make good neighbors". we should have never started associated with them in the beginning. up until then i had never even allowed my children to play in the front....I should have kept to me rules.
She may be lucky, but I feel sorry for her neighbors.
nm
No, not really dense, she said felt sorry for my neighbors. the ones who
are nice, quiet, have a sense of wanting to live in a nice community, wanting to have something in life. So, now my deah, DUH to you because she said she felt sorry for the neighbors and the above fits mine to a T. I guess you can take some people out of the country but you will never take the country out of some people. Read again, she is sorry for having nice neighbors such as the doctors, lawyers, judges and the like where I live. Yeh, makes a lot of sense to me. NOT.
my neighbors waiting for snow outside
with a flashligh in North Carolina!!
Should add, these neighbors are not nice at all! I am afraid of what sm
they will do to me and my family if I tell them what I did. I'm just being completely honest with you.
That is such a sweet thing to do for your neighbors!
There's only 1 family around here with little kids...most everyone else are older or seniors, and I think they would get a kick out of it.
Every Christmas I make up little centerpieces out of balsam and different evergreens I scavenge from the woods here, pretty them up with a candle, bow, and a festive pick and give all my neighbors one. I was always able to deliver them during the day and leave them on steps or front porches...again, in the safety of daylight.
Last winter I had to delivery my goods at about 11 p.m. because of my crazy schedule. I hoofed it, in the snow, with just my arrangements and a flashlight. One of my neighbors heard me come down the driveway (cruncy snow) and cocked his gun--it was that distinct "CHI-CHINK" sound, and it made me stop dead in my tracks! Can you imagine?! Apparently someone had been threatening them in a domestic-disturbance kind of way and they thought I was that person! They apologized up and down but I nearly shat myself, know what I'm sayin?! Lesson learned...never go roamin' around at night...even in the country. Folks is packin' heat!
Are you friends with your immediate neighbors or just acquaintances? nm
s
Well, I'm guilty of giving neighbors' dog
he does come over our fence, literally climbs over, and comes into our yard and then our house. He goes straight to the kitchen, waits for a treat and then goes out the front door and to his yard. He gets ignored a lot so I feel sorry for him. He's so cute.
Christmas goodies for the neighbors - do you?
This year my goodie bags will revolve around hot cocoa mix. I have 5 neighbors that I take goodies to. Three will get cocoa mix, mini marshmallows, snowman mugs, and a pint of peppermint schnaaps. The other two will get the cocoa mix, marshmallows, and peppermint sticks. Cute cheap mugs if I can find some tomorrow.
Here's the recipe I'm using:
Best Ever Hot Cocoa Mix
This hot cocoa mix can be stored in an air-tight container for 3 months. It uses two unusual ingredients: white chocolate chips that give the cocoa a soft, creamy texture and escalate the chocolate flavor, and the cornstarch in the confectioners' sugar (an ingred added by the maunfacturer to prevent clumping) helps thicken the cocoa.
Makes ~ 20 servings.
3 C non-fat dry milk 2 C confectioners' sugar 1 1/2 C Dutch-processed cocoa powder 1 1/2 C white chocolate chips 1/4 tsp salt
Combine ingreds in a large bowl. Working in two batches, pulse ingreds in food processor until the chocolate is fine ground.
To make hot cocoa, stir 1/3 C mix into 1 C hot milk. Top with mini marshmallows.
What are you all sharing with your neighbors and friends?
50 cents here, but no neighbors complained!
xx
Dont know my neighbors and so glad
I don’t do coffee mornings, do not care to chitchat, don’t care to visit in their homes. I have my own home to myself, my husband and my 3 furkids and that is exactly the way I like it.
Your neighbors should suffer some sort of consequences... SM
for how they've treated their dog!!!! And let me tell you, it's not just rednecks or trashy people. My ex-in-laws, a very wealthy couple who were known throughout their church and community as giving and loving people would go out of town and leave their dog chained up in the backyard for weeks at a time. They'd just leave a whole bag of dog food for the poor animal and lots of water. They wouldn't even ask anyone to come over and check on the poor thing! We lived in another state at the time and I continually threatened to call animal control on them but my now ex-husband would beg me not to get his dad in trouble and would always call one of their neighbors to check up on the dog.
After one of their trips, the dog disappeared never to be seen again. She was a beautiful white shepherd. They had the audacity to call me and my ex up and cry on the phone about how awful it was and expected me to sympathize with them! I just simply said, that dog probably got herself loose and ran for her life. I hope she's found a new home with better owners!
Then they went and got another german shepherd and didn't take care of her. We moved in next door to them (never be your in-laws' neighbor, it's just like on Everybody Loves Raymond!) and I ended up taking care of this poor dog because once again they were never home. Then the dog was sick and in pain and could hardly move around and I told them repeatedly she needed to go to the vet. Did they ever take her? NO! I had to scrape together the money and take that poor dog to the vet to find out she was anemic and had bone cancer. It was suggested that because she was in so much pain she should be euthanized. My ex-husband didn't think we should make that decision cause she wasn't ours. So when we told my in-laws, they broke down crying and said they didn't believe in euthanization and could bare to part with their beloved Ruthie! WHAT!!?!?!?
So they let the dog suffer until I called the humane society on them. So you see there are just people in this world that don't deserve to have the unconditional love a pet. Those people deserve to be chained up in their backyards for a few days with warm, nasty, days old water and dog food. See how they like it!!!
I'm glad your situation was resolved, but I would keep an eye on your neighbors though.
Anyway, I'm an animal lover too and I just can't stand to see an animal suffer. I would have cried right along with you.
Our neighbors used the yellow caution tape
and I thought it was a very clever idea. Their house looks great. Myabe depending on the area you live in. We are in a new housing development and they are at the end of a cul-de-sac.
I'm with you - we made the mistake of become friends with neighbors
but after a short while, when i'd get home from my day job, I'd call across the street and invite her (her husband works a LOT) and her kids over to swim with us before I'd fix dinner and then log in for MQ. We'd wait and wait and then she'd never show up. I'd call back over and she'd say the boys were asleep (it was 5:00 in the evening and the boys were 5 at the time - don't think they were asleep). The straw that broke the camel's back for us was the time they invited us all over for dinner. I tried calling her the morning of to see what we needed to bring so I could run to the store. I got no answer so I went across the street and rang the doorbell -no answer. The time came for dinner (the time that SHE designated) so we went across the street and rang the doorbell. I could hear the kids inside but they never came to the door. I was SOOOO mad - and then had to cook dinner for my family at the last minute. Several months later, I was in my front yard gardening and she came across the street with a half-hearted apology after saying that her husband told her to come over there. She admitted they were home and that they just didn't feel like company that night. BURNED me up!! They are welcome to come over swimming or whatever but we no longer invite them - for anything and no longer accept any of their invitations. It's kind of sad actually because our kids are in the same class together this year - weird!!!
We were next door neighbors at an apartment complex.
c
Dear Next Door Burn other neighbors down also
You should not have a fire blazing out of control- we have woods right behind us that basically connect. Oh, I was the one who called the fire department on your blaze. Against the rules here in the community and the city as far as that is concerned. Talk about loonies- maybe that is why I do not talk with you.
She's making those immigrant neighbors look peachy, huh?
Can you imagine living next door to THAT smug, self-righteous, vapid woman??? I'm seriously giggling at her posts. I'll take those immigrants as neighbors ANY day over this piece of work. At least those immigrants would probably be the first to help out in an emergency; this pompous poser would probably refuse her neighbors a glass of water even if they were ablaze.
I gotta give her this, though...Her posts are so out in left field at least I'm getting my giggle quota for the day!
Beach/road trash pickup, help neighbors
with yard work, or help little old ladies do things around the house. Not sure what things you've tried that require them to be 14, but there's always animal shelters and teaching little kids to read. I'm not sure if you need approval, but they could help collect canned goods or toys for the Salvation Army or other charities.
Speaking of cookies, do you exchange with neighbors, bake only for family, or

Hahaha, cute. Dogs are not only smart, they are good neighbors. nm

Doctors, lawyers, judges for neighbors doesn't give a person class. - DUH

I have had several, unfortunately. Is there a reason they did
an ultrasound at 7 weeks and again at 10 weeks? Mine were later attributed to the genetics of my husband's connective tissue disorder, but we were unaware of his diagnosis during that time. However, I am curious as to why they would be following you so closely with ultrasounds at this point in your pregnancy. (((hugs)))
Reason
The reason I asked is because our 3 year-old neighbor girl walks around with hers all the time. Drives me nuts. Like you said, cannot understand them when they talk. I figure if potty trained can get rid of that too. Of course they like to brag about what a big girl she is now, but........
Ok, the reason why I ask, of course, is
the medication you possibly might have been taking but back to the drawing board. I took synthroid since the late 80s and my hairs, yes hairs, about 2 of them left was worrying the crap outta me. Read here and then other places Synthroid was known for causing the hair loss. By the way, it does not get better. Mine had gotten to the point of my wearing wigs and thinking about hair replacement but since overall, hair replacement not an ideal plan for me. I went to endo physician, told him not taking the medicine any more and asked for Armour. The hair is growing back and I am a happy girl. I at 1 time had the real lush hair so the falling out really did not get better until I changed the medicine. Oh, BTW, for the person whose hair comes out more after shampooing, mine did exactly the same, could run my hand through it and it came out in gobs. I feel your pain because I was there also.
No reason given so far...
I think she didn't think AJ could ever be a Tony...provide for her in the way Carm is provided for...just a guess. Love that show, absolutely the best writing and acting bar none! When that goes, so does my HBO, but I do like Big Love too!
the reason they
are taking it this far is because it is a drug-resistant form of TB.
I don't think they are quarantining each and every one of his clients are they? But yeah, if a person has TB and they are noncompliant with taking the medication they can actually be locked up for the period of time that they need to take the medication. Its a serious thing.
One reason might be that
girls are starting earlier, and the younger they are, the more likely mom's help will be treasured. What girl wants to be caught at school unprepared? Also, lines of communication need to be open because back when I was in school, there was no time allowed for bathroom breaks longer than about 30 seconds, so this can cause real management problems if you know what I mean.
