MY DAUGHTER is a strong, independent professional

So do my sons.

I didn't raise them as helpless, mindless animals.  I taught them to be strong.  I taught them how to take care of themselves.

You probably would let you kid take your money and stomp all over you.  You deserve whatever you got coming there.  Better keep your checkbook handy.

I work as an independent but has nothing
to do with that. I hope people will understand when I say this and it is not for bragging but I have had money beyond my wildest dreams given to me. I got over $100,000 from a place where I used to work for ??? Several years after I had been outsourced got the money, just from heaven! I have just sold some property that belonged to a relative that I came into as inheritance and I have had really big money come from my father. I have squirreled away some, giving my husband the same amount that I am paying in my own bills and am paying off most of the amount left on my home where I live (he pays this bill but just want to pay it down some.)My daughter told me just the other night she hopes to have the good luck I have had but I had said this before and will say again- I give to different charities, I gave a lot and also volunteered during Katrina, I give to animals that need help, I give from my heart and it comes back. I have gave like this since I was a child, so my mother told me so nothing new for me. No matter how much I have or have had though I just could not give up my job and hope to work as long as I can.
Independent Lab-oratory

I second the Scat Mats. I never had to use them as my dogs allow me on the furniture!!!

How about meeting him halfway.....put a sheet on the couch and take it off when your son comes to visit.

Or, I wonder if this would help.....put a large cookie sheet on each cushion and place smaller metal  pans on each cookie sheet. Make sure the cookie sheets are placed slightly toward the edge of the cushion. When your Lab gets up on the couch, he'll knock over the cookie sheet contraption and the noise might startle him. (But, if he is like my golden, he'll just keep on truckin' and do what he wants to do.  )

anyone have a very independent, hard-headed kid??? sm
i have a 5 y/o that has been very independent since he was a baby.  anytime i try to show him something or help him with his homework (yes, he gets homework once a week from school), he doesn't like that.  if he's trying to sound out a word and i say "no, try again", he gets so mad and throws a fit, bang his head on the floor or wall, whichever is close enough.  i try to calmly tell him he doesn't need to get so upset about little things like that.  for instance, he's in the bathtub right now.  he has this little rubber fish i was showing him something with it.  he got mad and started banging his head in the tub then splashing water all over my bathroom.  i'm so tired of his bad temper!!!  i don't know what to do any more.  i try to be calm, he's gotten spankings, i've taken things away from him.  i just don't know what to do any more.  he has a dad that is in his life, we all live under the same roof.  hubby works midnights, so i'm the one around the kids most of the time.  i just feel alone and not sure what else to do.  anyone else with these kinds of kids and what did you do?
You need a professional
Unless your mil is a psychologist or psychiatrist, she cannot diagnose autism. First, have you checked the child's hearing? He may have wax buildup or some other type of malfunction that is preventing him from hearing you - and he may not be ignoring you at all. That would also explain the speech delay. Get audiology testing after your pediatrician checks for cerumen impaction.

Don't worry until you know there is a problem. Chances are greatly in your favor that it is not autism. Several children in my extended family had speech delay, and there are many reasons for it. All those kids were talking blue streaks by 3 years of age.

Your son sounds like a very normal little boy - get the ears and he hearing checked out. Please let us know how he does.

These posts come across as not being very professional,
in their jobs, just the opposite. I might (and underline that) throw the clothes in the dryer but what you hear are women crying about what to do with their children, how to do their house chores around their work time- Good golly, what I am saying is I do not think a majority of the MTs on here would be able to hold down a job outside of their home because their home interferes with their work. I say either work at a job, not cry about it or do housework. One post said if inhouse would probably stand around a water fountain, that is a hoot!! No work, no production, no money. So simple.
Yes, I believe you do need professional psychiatric
attention and fast.  I, for one thing, am not a size 6.  I am a size 14.  I also eat regular food and am not addicted to food with corn syrup in it.  I am, however, a smoker.  So with that said, I know your struggles with addiction.  Now it sounds like all you have to do is exert as much of that energy that you use to research the fact that it is the government's fault that your overweight on exercising and eating properly and stop blaming doctors and your so-called "thyroid problem".  Get a grip, life is too short.  Compassion is something you have for someone that has no control over their situation, i.e. cancer, multiple sclerosis.  Obesity is not one of those conditions, yet.  However, I did hear that obesity will eventually become a disability meaning that you'll get a parking spot closer to your destination; yeah, that's sure to help the cause.  Let's let fat people become even less active by deeming them disabled and give them special privileges.  Cut me a break.  Think about your saying.  I smoke, but I don't run around saying the cigarette companies put something in the cigarettes.  I choose to put the cigarette to my lips and inhale.  I do not, however, blame the cigarette company.  I blame myself making the CHOICE to smoke and not giving it up.  My CHOICE.  I do not consider myself "afflicted" with my cigarette addiction.  There is also bariatric surgery available, which would probably work very well for you since you are never hungry, but once a day, and that once a day you only eat organic fruit and veggies.  By the way I know for a fact that when you go for a bariatric surgery consultation, they send you to a psychiatrist for a consultation.  Do some research on that.
You need professional advice

Go here: http://www.daveramsey.com/ . (Clickable link below.) On the right side of the page near the top are "endorsed local providers" or ELP. Find someone local who can help you sort out your finances and figure out exact what you can afford and when. And get a copy of Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover (most libraries have it but you may have to get on a waiting list) and follow the plan it outlines. It's nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned advice: Save your money and don't buy anything you can't pay for with cash (except a house, and there are guidelines for that).

I understand that you love California, I have lived in both SoCal and NoCal and I particularly loved NoCal (Sonoma County). I would be living there right now if I could afford it, but I can't. I have a brand new house here in Oklahoma that we paid $175,000 for that would probably cost at least $500,000 in California, expecially since it is a lakeside lot.

So, if you plan to stay in California, the reality of the situation is that you will have to work harder and save more to have a decent standard of living. I think you realize that, since you are willing to work an extra IC job to help buy the house. But please, do get some professional financial advice before you take such a big step.

And good luck to you and your wife and your new baby!

then there would be no professional sports (sm)

I think probably over 75% of athletes- way over, are using performance-enhancing drugs at a professional level in all sports.  I think a lot of athletes do not even realize they are taking steriods or performance-enhancing drugs, they think they are *supplementing.*  You cannot stay competitive otherwise, no matter your talent and skill level.

I compete at a pretty high level in two sports, softball and bodybuilding (my division is called figure/fitnes), and steroid use is rampant even at an amateur level.  I am one step away from a pro card in fitness but I know I've gone as far as I can being natural.  I also am a trainer, besides MT, and most of my athletes that leave for college tell me that they know they will have to come make a decision about this if they want to go as far as they can.  I just try to keep them as educated as I can, knowledge is power, but I do think that to reach the top in an uneven playing field, well... it is very tough and a true shame.

Regardless of Barry's faults, there are many, lying and drug use both, he is truly one of our greatest ball players.  That power and intensity may come from drug use.  But that kind of true beautiful swing he has does not come from drugs, nor does discipline and determination.

This is a topic that leads to a good debate, that is for sure!

You need to seek out professional help . . .
This can't be fixed just by you changing your behavior. Both of you have to come to realize how the other feels and how to work towards the goal of a happy, giving, respectful marriage. From what you've written, it sounds like you have a passive personality, and it sounds like he's taking advantage of that. I would also suggest that you seek counseling through church, so that you can both discuss the spiritual side of your marriage and develop that as well.
I pray for healing for you both, especially for the children. Happy and loving parents are such a gift to children.

Or eat the 2 weeks and get professional from here.

When a professional bathes your cat,
just make sure you are are a mile away so you don't hear the sound the cat makes when the water touches him. I had one that could shriek, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

you are a professional victim
You will need your time to argue with everyone else.
The post below about calling a professional - sm
restorer is a very good idea. My only idea would be to actually soak them and then gently peel them apart and dry them by laying them flat on toweling. It could be done this way, very tedious and time consuming but I think you'd be able to save them. Someone who does their own printing too may have some good ideas as you may need some sort of photo solution too to soak them in. Good luck.
Not boring, but professional athletes..sm
are definitely overpaid!
LOL! You are hilarious! So you get up, put your professional attire on sm
including your jacket and hose, probably heels too, and go to work? Wow! You are amazing! I bet you look spectacular in the morning! But not me. I'd rather spend that hour getting ready typing and making money. Besides, I'd feel kind of silly looking all gorgeous and "professional" hoping for a higher wage when the only person that gets to see me looking like this....MYSELF!!
We have decided to seek professional help.
My husband and I talked and decided that for all our sakes and to try and do things right, we are seeking professional help to guide us through this.

I feel somewhat more relieved with that in mind.

I hope all this works out for the best.

Thanks everyone
Yep, it was. There goes the best looking male professional dancer ever on the show....sm
Alec is some serious eye candy.
Wait, there would be professional sports, just not at the level we see now, you know what I mean? nm

I get my professional strength ones on ebay for really cheap
They are less than $5 and are the same exact stuff they use in the dentist office. I have been using them for years and everyone tells me that I have the nicest teeth.
City gal here. We have professional critter people, who SM
come in and collect rats, possums or other varmints who invade our homes. They charge around $200 for that service. Us city folk are real wimps.

A friend who has county house bought some device that emits radio waves that the creatures don't like and they leave. It works, because I have stayed in her house.

Or, as stated previously, borrow a cat. They will make short stay of that rat.
Get her professional help fast. Maybe family counseling. SM
Sometimes it just isn't one person in the family who has a problem. That came out badly, since I didn't mean you or any one in family in particular. Just dynamics of family life.

Best wishes to you. You will need a great deal of strength, but you can all come through this even closer as a family.
strong stuff
I use to sell the stuff and let me tell you the backing should not hurt the flooring.  Actually, I took a screwdriver and tried to scrap, chip or just try to mar the surface of the flooring and I could not even scratch it at all.
It's hard, but be strong for your mom and go.

If this is a family gathering, I'd go and be as polite as I could stomach, and then leave and take it up with her at a later time.  Can't say I wouldn't flash her the ol' stinkeye once or twice when no one was looking though.

5 years and going strong
We have had ours 5 years too and store it in a shed in the backyard. It snows here in the winter and gets really hot in the summer. It still works like a charm. Go ahead, make that step and give up all those messy light strings!
I probably would if I had a strong suspicion...
I don't necessarily think it's the right thing to do, but usually when people have a very strong suspicion that something is "off" with their significant other they are right in my experience - unless it's someone who just gets jealous/suspicious over every little thing.  But if your significant other is innocent, then you risk ruining their trust in you, and if you don't fess up to what you've done then you risk accidentally divulging information you learned while snooping and thereby "outing" yourself.  It's a slippery slope for sure!
That may be why it is so strong! They want people to buy
xxx
You don’t seem to be a strong parent
With teenage drinking, driving and the like, why even take the chance of having a diaster in the making waiting around the corner. I just do not see my ever wimping out to my child's father or anyone else for that matter. I guess you don’t want to look like the bad guy but here I think you really do.
You call yourself a professional, you sound more wimp than woman. Hate to inform you, your not

You are an embarassment to other work at home moms/wives/MTs.  Guess you can't  take care of things and earn a living at the same time.  Seems your in the minority and really don't need to get so defensive since you started this.   No wonder ya work at home.

Like you, the strong medicine they gave just does not do
it at all. Oh, he also ordered an injection of cortisone today so who knows? I told him the hard stuff did not work and did not need anything for pain, wanted to find out what was causing my pain and after the trigger points told me definitely my problem. I have gone to a pain clinic close by before and would do that again, returning in 2 weeks to this particular clinic and by then should have started the water aerobics and will ask about the pain clinic. I told hubby tonight the pain there all the time, sometimes excrucating and other times just the all over the body pain like mine is today. Gosh, you would not wish this on your worst enemy, would you? Good luck to you also.
Where are the nasty comments. just some very strong
opinions that happen to not agree with your opinion. I thought we were all just discussing. So what if someone doesn't agree with my opinion, that's fine. We are all entitled to our opinion and we just have to agree to disagree. Please don't take this so personally. I don't think any of it was aimed at you.
You definitely need a strong support system sm
right now. If being closer to your family will help you trough this then that is what you should do. You will be a better mother to your children if you are able to handle this better. About the money, since your child will be in first grade that should cut down on the cost of preschool. I am sure there are wonderful other speech therapists out there. Listen to your heart and "Go Home" and be surrounded by people that love and care for you.
Actually, if you're a strong Christian
and grounded in your faith, you are going to wear it everywhere you go because that is what Jesus instructed us to do. Our job on this earth is to preach the gospel to all people so that they might come to know him.

I'm sorry that it bothers you (and don't say it doesn't because it obviously does) but if you don't like the the posts of Jan, mammamt and others who have chosen to profess their faith then don't read them but please don't knock them down.

I know this is an absolutely futile argument but I just had to throw my 2 cents in there.
nice strong cup of coffee
works for me every morning
I had a very strong-willed child. sm
For starters - if she does leave - I would call the police ASAP and report her as a runaway. Otherwise she is out of the house with your permission and you need to protect yourself from neglect charges. Mine ran away 10-15 times and he was finally taken into juvenile hall and then foster care as he was incorrigible and refused to stay home and we had no control - his choice. He had 3 other siblings who obeyed the rules. Remember you are also responsible for any trouble she gets into while she is out there - stealing, etc. It can get very complicated - not to mention dangerous - so do everytihng you can to protect her and you - the street is no place for a 16 YO
I have heard very strong rumours about what happens
to Sabrina. I will share if you want to know. David is definitely leaving the show. I also think he killed Skye.
Sorry didn't mean to use such strong language

Both were borderline diabetic and had heavy heart disease and strokes in their families. My niece had it done and BS'd her way through it.  Easy to con a psychiatrist into thinking your life isn't worth living etc and then they fill out the paperwork for the insurance.

This person said below she does not want to be a strong parent
I for one would have never written such a post. Not only are you wimping out as a parent but you are also underwriting a child breaking the law. Shame on you big time! You are supposed to be a parent but seems like you want to go back to being a child?
You sound so strong. Truly sorry for your great loss. What a
wonderful tribute you described of your precious Misha. She was VERY blessed to have had you as her owner. May God give you rest and peace right now.
Hate is a very strong word. I don't particularly care
We have a cat, and my SIL doesn't like her, but she tolerates her.  My SIL likes dogs, but I can say that the dog sniffs where she shouldn't whenever people come to their house.  I just think it is funny.  Everyone have their likes and dislikes, but the word hate just bewilders me.  I totally agree with OP in that why reiterate the fact that you hate something over and over again.
Hate is a very strong word; however, I really don't like my sister(s) very much. sm
I have 3 sisters, 1 brother and 1 deceased brother. I have been close to my brother(s) all of my life and my sisters are just not very nice. I never really bonded with them, only my brothers.

My sisters are nasty and I chose to exclude them from my life. Sad, I know, but it is the only way I can survive.

Now, my brothers - I absolutely adore!!!

Be strong - your parents should respect you as an adult

Instead it seems like they are treating you like a child, expecting you to cater to their whims.

You can respectfully but firmly say to them that while you appreciate having extra time with them, the plans to go to your in-laws were made long ago and you have to respect them, also.

I'm sure your parents were aware of all this when they changed their plans. Just don't let them guilt you into doing something you will regret.

Stand strong, sista!

It was a little strong & overpriced for my tastes. (SeeMsg)
But, that was back when I could taste! I lost my sense of taste and smell a few years ago, so no sense throwing away good money on the expensive brand of anything! Now everything I buy is generic and cheap. (It all tastes the same to me!) HaHaHaHa!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to find a pot or coffee that was strong enough
for me. I just cannot seem to get it right. I love to go in Starbucks and smell that aroma and would love to have a good wake me up type but just do not find it. Any ideas here? DH bought new filter for present coffee pot, seemed to make no difference in the taste for me.
Daughter's phone is daughter's responsibility. Valuable lesson learned.
It should be between the daughter and the friend if the friend is going to pay any of the fees. They are teenagers, not preschoolers.
I think Lakesha started out strong but is starting to fizzle
I really don't have anybody giving me that spark this year. I like Melinda, but the wide eyed wonder thing was starting to get annoying. I'm glad Simon said something last night. Like I said, I think Lakesha started out strong, but she's just lost her edge and may be one of those upsets to go around now or next week, since she was considered an early favorite. Sanjaya was bad last night.. urgh, he was off on the voice, but really, if not for the drama of Sanjaya, there wouldn't be much reason to watch this year. I think what's his name.. the bald one.. Phil? He sang well last night, but he kind of creeps me out. I doubt anyone is going to really catch on or do big things after the show. It's going to be one of those fizzle out years.
Aha! Found the answer! Not a quake, but strong winds, - sm
unusually high tides & storm off the coast is what's causing it. It's more of a 'tidal surge' or 'coastal flooding', though - not really an actual tsunami (aka 'tidal wave') that is caused by seismic activity underneath the ocean. So probably it would be more closely related to the Hurricane Katrina flooding (though not as bad), than to the tsunami in southeast Asia a couple years ago.
Your aunt is a wise woman, and she is a strong person
for being a Pastor's wife. For some reason, Pastors seem to be the most difficult to understand about how to be sensitive to people, when it is their job to do so. No offense to pastors and to my husband. But when I loved him best when he delivered pizza and Sunday mornings I still feel put off. And those are the mornings I am probably the most up in arms about this control issue. I dont think that is what the Bible meant either. Thanks for your comment. Your aunt also sounds like she was a great example to women and men alike as the pastor's wife. :)
Starbucks coffee IS strong. Probably Breakfast Blend is weakest,
xx
The strong, silent type...tall, dark and handsome..sm

I've read all the posts and was gettin' very hot with the ignorant ones...I didn't know what to say bkz I had too much to say and I could write an epistle.

My husband of 25 years is very similar...keen observer, listens and gleans information from all the chatty folks before he makes a statement. Ya gotta be wary of people and their intentions.  I was naive and didn't learn that till we moved to the south.

We've got 2 sons, one is very outspoken and the other is very reserved, (both musical and visual artists in all different mediums and genres).  When asked in a humanities class "What's the name of BB King's guitar?" my son said "Well, which one, Lucille 1 or Lucille 2?"

Having oreo and zebra scratched into their artwork in woodshop by mean-spirited kids was rotten....But, when one brought a noose on the bus and said "I'm gonna hang all ya'll" we went to address it at school...The only thing we got from central office and the principal was "He was only a-kiddin'".  My husband nearly went off...man of few words but about to strangle someone (school district was 99.5% ivory white) .

So, does your hubby play an accoustic or electric?  Cat

nope...lol, hint: try reading it with a strong southern accent...lol
:)
Have an extremely strong accent when speaking foreign languages,....nm
