I learned the hard way that if something needed to be protected it needed to be put away. Of course the learning process included several headsets, at least two foot pedals, iPod cords, alarm clock cords, speaker cords, and on and on.
My favorite was the cord that plugged in the charger for my wireless headset. I figured that was safe as it was larger than what he usually chewed on. The little creep never did electrocute himself, either.
I was gone for several weeks straight taking care of my mom right before she died and I was only home for a couple of hours a day to check on the cats. When I came back home for good, I noticed all the little destructive things that had gone on in my absence. It was a nightmare.

I have 2 kids just down at the end of the block from me and their parents don't give a rat's behind what they're doing. They're real smart alecks - ages 10 and 12 (?), both in elementary school. Apparently, they're quite the bullies at school, too. They like to mouth to any adults when they whiz by on their bikes. Is it wrong that I'd love to take my kids' BB guns and shoot their tires out when they're doing this?
Their mom doesn't care. When we first moved into town this past fall (short-term thing while we're building in the country), I felt sorry for them. They put on a good act. After a few weeks of them coming to our house and pretending to want to play with the boys, we soon realized they were freeloaders -- wanted to eat everything in my fridge (without even asking first) and then wanted to play our computers or video games (without my kids). I put the klinks on that real fast. After that, they started treating my kids like crap. I told my boys as long as they didn't do anything physical to just ignore them because they didn't care if they got in trouble and neither did their parents. Their mom even had the balls to come looking for them 1 night after they didn't go home. It was 9 o'clock at night and it got dark then around 7. I couldn't believe it.
Just a few weeks ago, the 2 perps beat another kid with a baseball bat at the ballfield. The cops were at their house quite a bit, but I see they're back out on their bikes again wreaking havoc. I can't wait till we move back out to the country!

Feral kitten
Hi all! I don't post here usually, but have read this board the past 3 months and love it.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with feral cats. This kitten is in the park area my mother and I take our evening walk in. We've went up there during the morning and he's not there and we're not sure where he goes exactly but, every evening, there he is playing in the leaves just beyond the fence where a new housing project has been going up. We had seen him when he was very small (6 to 8 weeks old) a couple of months ago for a week or two and then he disappeared until this week. I take him some cat food and water up every evening and he knows my voice enough now not to run too far, but he will not let you close enough to touch him. He mews in the most pathetic way though when you talk to him and just lays there looking at you. The second you get too close, though, he darts off further. I guess I just wondered if anyone had any experience dealing with this and how to maybe get him to trust us a bit faster. It's going to get too cold and snowy soon and I'm afraid the cold weather might do him in since he's so small.
I'll hush up now since I feel I've gone on and on. It's frustrating to want to help something that won't let you.

the product of a feral or unwanted domestic litter, too. Unwanted kittens, if not killed by animal predators or disease, often end up being the victims of human predators. Or, they end up eaten alive as snake food, or tortured long-term as a laboratory animal. This incident was one more good reason why mandatory spay-&-neuter laws should be in place everywhere.

It's been two weeks since my car became a delivery room and I'm happy to report Mama and babies are doing fine. Two of them have their eyes open, 1 is almost there and the other still has his/hers closed. They are still in the box where I put them when I took them out of my back seat and the mother hasn't moved them. She lets me peep in on them, but is right beside me when I do and then jumps in the box with them. She's a super mom. Oh, I see on the pic the dark gray one is buried in the dog pile, er, I mean kittie pile, but he's there and has dark blue eyes like the dark orange tiger. Too cute.
My kitten Stella...
She waits for me to go to bed every night and lays between DH and me and just purs and purs. She likes to sleep on my desk while I'm working, too. While I was typing this, she did a complete flip while hanging onto the lazy boy. (She's older now than she was in this picture. That was taken the day she showed up on my porch, snuck in the front door and made herself at home on that chair.)

Cat/kitten housing question..
I am the proud owner of 4 Friday the 13th kittens, 3 calico and 1 orange tabby, who are courtesy of someone who dumped a pregnant mama in our area here in the country. Anyway, they are in the garage in a big computer box now, but I am leaving on vacation in 2 weeks and will be gone for 3 weeks and don't think the box will last! Does anyone know if there are cat kennels I could buy somewhere? I want to be able to leave them in the garage to keep any other cats/wildlife away from them while I am gone. I really don't have anyone to leave them with and a friend of mine will be by every 2 to 3 days to feed and water the other cats we have. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you!

Sounds like the kitten has an upper respiratory infection. it is very common in kittens under 1 year because their immune system has not built up. Upper respiratory infections can be easily treated by amoxicillin by the vet but, must be done very quickly. Upper respiratory can take the life of a kitten in a matter of 4 days if untreated. If treated the kitten will grow to live a normal happy life.
We got a kitten about a month ago. She was litter box trained and... SM
used her litter box just fine, but out of the blue she has pooped on one of my blankets, peed in my laundry basket, and this evening peed on my bath towel right in front of me! I had just gotten out of the shower, taken the towel off and dropped it in the floor and when I turned around, she was peeing on it!
What is up with that? I don't know much about cats being that I'm more of a dog person, but she doesn't act sick and she's playful. I just don't get it!

This article made my stomach roll. Maximum penalty (yeah, right) is 3 years in solitary confinement. Personally, I think they should be publically whipped until they scream and then whipped until they stop screaming...but that's just me.

I think you are so lucky to get these "signs" that your loved ones are still around you. I wish I could have similar experiences. I love Lisa Williams' show. Sylvia Browne can be a bit harsh but she's a real character. I live in Upstate NY and wish I could still get John Edwards' show.

I tried match.com, put in a 30 mile radius ( small area here). I found I had already met all of these losers, about 10 of them, in one context another in real life, and would never have considered having even a cup of coffee with any of them. Lucky you!

Mine only cooks on the weekends about once or twice a year. We wound up having turkey breast but I wanted grilled salmon so I ate that instead. Yum.

My daughter is 20, son is 26, and son's GF is 22. One is asleep after reading all night and the other two are quietly reading... the house is so QUIET!!
So... Lucky for me, they are reading and that I don't feel jealous because I have to work!!
They preordered and got the books last night. Unfortunately, my son accidently ran into a spoiler on the internet w/o even trying... so he's a little bummed.

the kids don’t come back and wreck the meeting place where you were. I agree with you about the parenting. It should start really, really early. Hubs and I out last night for dinner and couple next to us with child, about 3 I would say that was all over the place but mostly a danger to himself as he was climbing up on the chair up on the booster seat. There were 4 adults at the table but not one called this child down. I am glad my children grown. Call me overbearing or whatever, my kids were never out of control like what I see now. Oh, I did not spare the rod either.

Look at all the years of love you have given him...that is so sweet. Most animals never get a forever home where they can stay and live for 15 years. It's sad but it's sweet too. You have given him a good life :-)

Believe it or not, I sure wish I was there! I have lived in central Florida since 1994 and have not lived in snow since. So sad. I was so glad to throw the old ice scraper and mittens away, but I really miss it. I miss snow days (not horrifying like Hurricane days are here), I miss cozy in the house while the flakes drop outside and how pretty it is. I know you in snowy areas might think I am nuts, but it is still 80s here and the only snap in the air is something for about 10 seconds between 6 and 6:15 a.m. No sledding here, only A/C in the house. Oh yeah, there was snow at my downtown, fake snow made by the town council for a holiday fair. There was roasting chestnuts, hot chocolate and hot cider. Too bad my little boy wore flip flops, he could not go in the snow and it was too hot out to drink the cider. Oh well, at least it looked like Christmas LOL.

I remember my one brother at that age...wouldn't be caught dead near his mom, especially not in the kitchen! My other two brothers though, they were/are good eggs like your son. You must be doin' something right!

I would be very happy if my husband received anything. Granted he gets a monthly bonus depending on profits at the shop (he works at a car dealership - sometime good, sometimes not), but it would be nice if he got an actual Christmas bonus any amount.
I wonder if maybe they have been lucky enough
not to have experienced as much death as some families.
I know when we lost my aunt, she was only 63, but still it was the first death in our family in many years. There wasn't a lot of loud grieving, but most of us were walking around in a state of numb shock.

I live in CT where just this week there has been three home invasions and about six months ago there was the one from Cheshire CT which made national headlines. Two teenage girls and a mom were raped and shot. A total of four people are dead because of this. All the criminals in these cases have past records. No one is safe anymore. I am so glad you are okay.

There are 13 full moons in a year. The lunar/femaleness of this is what turned it into a negative superstition, but to me, Friday the 13th is like finding a dollar on the sidewalk.
I am very lucky to have a DH with -sm
with a good head on his shoulders, who started saving when he was 20, obviously picked good funds which have mucho mutiplied. I met him when he was 35 and had $200K at that point, and all he had then were 2 aggressive mutual funds. After we married we open up 2 more mutal funds and the bond (which only has $100K in it). So the majority is in the mutual funds, not the bond. So basically it boils down to $25K a mutual fund gone, which in the big picture really is not that bad. I swear by Fidelity, they are really a great 401K. We made out tons better than friends and my father (who lost about 50%). We pass on tips to my dad but he never listens which in hindsight is quite foolish. He lost over $250K and is scrambling now but his house is paid off so he will be okay, just may have to pare down some of his hobbies. I would never presume really risk a lot of our money on our own. We did have some stocks in a fund that I had opened years ago on etrade, those jerks sucked it dry with fees, etc. and lost $500. My DHs pension is a joke($50K total, worse than SS if that is possible--assuming you live a long time) so it is a good thing he started young, as have I too but my personal IRA is a joke compared to his 401K, much less than yours. I guess mine will be the play fund in the future and his we will use to live off of. Despite the losses we have reassurance that the money is there, and if by some freak chance he loses his job we will bit the bullet and take out enough to pay off the house and for the penalities we would ensue for doing so. I hope it does not ever come to that but as I don't make enough to pay all the bills it would become necessary unfortuntately, he makes four times what I do, and I don't make that much, not anywhere near the people on here that say they make $40-$60K a year.

My dog would probably try to eat the snake. I am lucky I havent seen one... the keyword is SEEN. One day I went to look for something under my bathroom cabinet and there were 3 piles of snake poop and a huge snake skin.... I about added a 4th pile of poop because that scared the crap out of me!!!

perhaps you should read the post below about whose child was given chemo and died a horrible death. Chemo does work for some, but not all. Alternative treatments work for some, but not all. To be ignorant and say that child will ABSOLUTELY die without it is also wrong. You don't know that. Nobody knows that. Only God knows that, and if the mother and the child wish to seek alternatives to chemo, that should be their right, without the government interference and without other people who happen to feel differently interfering, as well, like by turning them in. Leave them alone, it is their lives, not yours.
maybe we should suggest chemo to people who want gorgeous hair now, too?? as your post seems more preoccupied with the looks of your daughter's hair than with whether this poor 13 year old boy should be forced to have something he does not want.
You must be very lucky
I've never had a relationship or a marriage that did not require work and some degree of self-sacrifice. It's a wonderful thing for you that yours at least doesn't feel like work; your husband must meet you halfway on everything. Every day life often requires a compromise on somebody's part, and frankly, even knowing it's beneficial, is still work. When you take 2 people and put them together, they each bring their own view of what and how things should be done; each brings their own priorities, morality, and baggage and finding the way to merge the two into a cohesive functioning one takes effort. Finding time for each other in the face of jobs, kids, friends, family, household responsibilities takes an effort.
Yes, marriages/relationships are work. It's a good one that doesn't make it feel like hard work or unappreciated work.
You may just be lucky
but all marriages have their ups and downs. If you find someone pretty compatible with yourself, you will have less of the downs. It will be 40 years for us in August this year. Its been a "bed of roses." A few thorns but a real sweet smell that you want to keep around." :-)

I'm lucky, I have great mom-in-law and dad-in-law.....
it's their son I can't stand. LOL! Seriously often it usually is my husband that is miserable around the holidays, he's kind of a perfectionist, neat-freak, hates to have deadlines, hates to have to drive somewhere far...etc.etc.etc. And usually when he gets there he enjoys himself, so I don't understand why he gets himself all worked up. Men! lol

The only problem I've had with any of the neighbors is that the dog across the street attacked my dog - that dog is twice my dog's size (mine is a Pomeranian, 20 pounds) and my Pom was on his back in a totally submissive position but the other dog still grabbed onto his hindquarters before I could reach them. I had to keep beating the other dog off and I was screaming at him and meantime my poor Pom was scared to death. Fortunately there wasn't any serious damage but now he won't walk out to the mailbox with me any more (which is what we were doing at the time, and it is the ONLY time I ever let him out without a leash).
I realize there are much, much worse neighbors - but I feel almost like my baby was attacked.
In our old neighborhood, we had next-door neighbors we called "The Addams Family" - they were spooky and ooky, but they kept to themselves. 
yes, your a lucky one....although i wouldnt like the
rules...i want to live away from people so we can do family things outside, listen to some nice music, barbeque...things like that w/o having to worry about the nextdoor neighbor dragging his wife out by her hair and fighting, screaming...just crazy stuff...one morning i woke up and thier house was trashed...tv was broken adn outside, pinic table turned over...later i asked their kids what had happened and mom and dad had been up fighting all night...GOOD GREIF!!!

My daughter plays school sports (which cost money), is in the performing choir (planning on going to California to perform $600 per student), plays competitive volleyball ($800 fee without travel, shoes, food and such), competitive softball (depending on the team is $400 to $700 to sign plus gear, protective clothing, travel, food etc...). She hopes to be able to get a job to help with some of the cost but she doesnt turn 16 for another few months. Sheesh homecoming cost about $200 prom is about the same if not more. Why not check into fundraising. My daughter and I work hockey games, football games and other activities to raise money (because truthfully without sponsors, donations and fundraising I dont think I could do it) Where there is a will there is a way is my motto.
P.S. - I was lucky, only out about 26 hours
and no trees down in my yard.
