I Love Sally's! Good idea to get the savings card for $5.00
also. You pretty much make it back and-then-some on just a couple of purchases. And they are not expensive to start, I don't think. MUCH cheaper than the stuff at the salons where they can charge $20 for a bottle of shampoo! I have had much success with finding products you can't get anywhere else, such as salon-strength reconstructors/deep conditioning products the salons "won't" sell you, and charge you 15.00 or so for one application, because they want you to keep coming back for them! Cha-ching! Salons are truly such a rip off. At Sally's, I'm like a kid in a candy store! ;)

You're a good mommy!
He's going to feel much better with your plan I think.
Anyone got good low-cal doggie recipes?
I'm looking for both snack and meal recipes for an older dog that's kind of sedentary but LOVES to eat. I'm convinced the food at the grocery store is either highly caloric or filled with a bunch of junk.
Thanks for your suggestions!
bring your doggie purse...just not your doggie!
lol
glad to see you look at it this way! Really good idea! Have a good season! nm

Love this idea!
Thanks so much! We need 7 ideas so still interested in hearing other ideas as well.
Love you idea too. Yours is even more
special because this is something you made yourself. Our first Christmas here my kids and I mad cranberry pumpkin bread (miniture loaves) for everyone in the neighborhood. At the time there were about 15 houses, now there are over 50. One muslim family asked if there was meat in it (we did put the receipe with the loaf). An oriental family asked "How much" when my dauther handed it to them. Fun way to get to know your neighbors.
I love that idea!

I love the idea of uniforms...sm
Of course, I would not be saying that at age 14 and 16, though! I think that kids can be individuals outside of the schools. It would make the "poor" kids and "rich" kids all look the same. It would take away distractions in high schools (and I WAS one of those girls who wore....revealing outfits!). This is just my opinion. I know a lot of people disagree, especially kids and I see their point of view too. I do, however, think it would better for the actual schooling part of school.
I LOVE the gas card idea...nm

LOVE it! Great idea.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Love your solution.
This is too cool! I had no idea (and I LOVE Otto!) nm

That's a good idea about the GC. I would
have never thought of that. At least it would be easier than holding onto cash if you save that way.
That's a good idea, but...
she already gets them free from the manicurist who works at her salon. I was thinking a Starbucks GC might be a good idea because she starts working super early in the morning (6 a.m.) and is always drinking coffee when I see her.
Thanks again for the help though!
Good or Bad Idea?
COLUMBIA, S.C. Mar 16, 2007 (AP)— Women seeking abortions in South Carolina would be required to view an ultrasound image of their fetus before the procedure under a proposal gaining support from lawmakers. If enacted, it would be the first law of its kind in the nation.
Not a good idea
Feeding birds, seagulls, ducks, etc. at public places is NOT a good idea. As "Miss Melanoma" said, they will bite the children. The birds are equipped by nature to find their own food and we humans should not interfere with that. Teach your child(ren) that human food is not for healthy animals. They can enjoy watching the birds fly and dive andfind their own food.
That woman was definitely out of line. For an adult to use that kind of language in front of small children is inexcusable.
And oh, yes -- might be a good idea to have

Good idea
That is probably a good idea, just tell aunt that medicine is off limits in your conversations. I know a lot of older people, not in the medical field, who think of physicians as god-like. They only see them the few minutes they spend in the office with them when they put on their happy, nice doctor face (not all of them). We know the other side.
There have been times when I have suggested to the doctor what I think is wrong, sinus infection, bronchitis, ear infection, etc. I have never felt they did not like that. My doctor is pretty cool though.
Good Idea
Think I will make a cup of herbal tea!
this is a good idea for her.

A Good idea...
Just passing some helpful info along I received in an email--
When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. If we pass this on and everyone sends one card, think of how many cards these wonderful special people who have sacrificed so much would get.
A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue,NW Washington, D.C. 20307-5001
NOT a good idea.
They will be discarded unopened.

Good idea...
But make sure whomever you pick looks nice in theirs before they show you. I had a lady show me how to when I was in high school and she leaned more toward the hooker/Tammy Faye look.
That's a good idea...
That is a good idea! Thanks. You know, normally I would have thought about doing that in years past. All I am thinking about right now is typing, and I am not even scheduled for today..I also just finished collecting all of the Christmas DVDs with Rudolph, Grinch, Charlie Brown, etc. But, have not even cracked open the packages yet. I am sitting here typing, staring at the monitor as usual. Maybe it's just early in the day. I definitely will take your suggestion, and maybe then I'll perk up. After all, its not all about the shopping...
Good idea
That's great. Thanks for this idea., Going to the movies is a good way of getting out for this black Friday and contain my fear of overspending and maybe avoid crowds. That's it. I'm gonna straighten the house, go to a movie, and make cookies. Now it's getting to be less bah humbug and more Ho Ho Ho!
good idea
I think I will suggest this to my daughter and see what we can come up with - I am going to spend the night with her Sunday night. .
Good idea
I was going to say too a gift certificate to somewhere you know they always shop.
That's a good idea.
Guys are easy to buy for if you have a lot of money to spend on TOYS - EXPENSIVE TOYS, lol.
Very good idea.

Is this a good idea or a bad one?
Say an elderly person has a small amount of money in CD's and savings accounts, plus a small retirement plan and smaller-still social security income. That elderly person now owes close to $30,000 in hospital bills. There's no way he can pay it all off, but he's going to try to set up a payment plan with the hospital.
He's afraid the hospital will take the money he's got in CD's and bank accounts. He wants to close out his bank accounts, take the cash, and put it in a fireproof lockbox in his house. He said he doesn't think the hospital can touch his retirement account or social security income.
thanks, good idea too. - sm
Yes, it is only when he drinks too, more than normal. He drinks every day about 9-12 beers a day, when he hits the 12-14 mark which luckily is not often that is when it gets nasty around here. Per se I am not afraid of him, though I get a bit jumpy on the nights he gets mean. I am going to hope for the best in the long run that we can talk this out w/o any violence, that we go to counseling, he goes to get medication for his depression (he self medicates with the alcohol obviously)...have tried to get him to do this a few times, he gets the pills but refuses to take them, and obviously that he quits drinking. The most he has gone in the 14 years I have been with him is 3 weeks w/o drinking. Life could be very good for us if all that falls into place. He is constantly calling himself a loser, so that is my main reason for being afraid to tell him I guess, just another notch in his self-perceived life of failure. But I like your opening statement. More to think about.
Another good idea! Thanks! nm

Good idea!
Next time I will take photos. The kindergarten teacher tried to get this kid the appropriate help but the school administration stood in the way. It's horrible. All the kindergarten parents were upset -- we even went to the papers. Nothing worked. This bully hit a girl on the head last year with a chair. He didn't get punished. I'm wondering what happened to the Zero Tolerance policy?
That is a good idea. I can try that...again (sm)
Thank you for your suggestions.
You know, this is a good idea. I need
to finish out my 19-year-old's. She is away at college, so I think that would be a perfect fit for yer. Thanks!!
That's a good idea
maybe i'll just do that instead. I got aggravated with the girl on the phone. Couldn't understand her at all (wonder why??!)
Good idea,
but we're averaging 20 degree temps right now.......the hose would probably freeze up if my hands didn't get frost bite first!
Good idea ...
either way; the mask or the donation. :)
Really, those things get ridiculous and it seems everyone is selling at once. Usually the stuff purchased is stale or junk (if not food). (Aside from GS cookies, of course.) :)
I think the groups should go the donation route anyway. Who wants to buy garbage they don't really want and then have the group selling only get a portion of the money? :0
good idea, except (sm)
that if I take the 3-month prescription to any US pharmacy such as Wal-Mart or Walgreens, etc., it might show up in the data base even if I ask the pharmacy not to run it through insurance.
Even if the PHARMACY records stayed private, the major health insurance company pulls MEDICAL records from any physician that I go to, and the doctor's appointment will state that they gave me a 3-month prescription for generic Requip. And my perfectly healthy status is ruined and I get the higher health insurance rate.
Gosh - I don't have high blood pressure or diabetes or ANYTHING wrong with me, still don't get the best health insurance rate because of only ONE issue - restless legs syndrome. It makes a difference of about $60/month in health insurance premiums.
That is why I have to make sure I get one last bit of medicine WITHOUT a written prescription, which I am pretty sure can only be done overseas. But I really want to find a REPUTABLE overseas pharmacy, not an untrustworthy one.
Good idea
In fact, my daughter has an extra scanner that I am planning to borrow to scan all their school photos and dance photos. My other daughter already scanned our snapshots.
When you say slides, I am thinking of the negative-type things that you view on a projector. Is that what you are talking about? If so, how do you scan those?
Gee, I still have 8 mm home movies (think that's what it is) that I can't watch as the projector broke years ago. I know there are people who put those on video, but can they now put them on DVD? If so, what would I look it up under in the yellow pages ... any idea?
I had an uncle who used to take lots of movies of everyone. One of my cousins had them put on video but they turned out dark and difficult to see. I had watched them on a projector not too many years before, and they were fine. Do you think the guy just did a crappy job or something happened to the film between times? (If it was the just a crappy job, I'd like to have them redone.)
Sorry to get off track here and assume you have all these answers, but you just touched on something that had been on my mind. : )
Thanks for the idea. You are right, I'm sure lots of others want their photos done and just don't have the time to get at it.
That's a good idea about the
car alarm. I hadn't thought of that. I think I'm going to make her sleep with me in my room for the next few nights just to be on the safe side. We're locked up tight & I also have a gun because I feel safer having a gun with 2 females living alone, so I do feel good about being able to protect us if anyone actually tried to break in, but I really kind of feel like it was a sick prank... at least I hope so!
Good idea!
I didn't think of that one. It could be as simple as a CO leak.
I do not think it is a good idea at ALL
This dream that everyone has that the world is such a loving and wonderful place...so not true. People are out to steal your identities, and anyone who would want anyone to be able to locate them I think is just asking for trouble. We hear more and more about it. I even go to the extreme of once every couple months or so I type in anything I can think of pertaining to me to see if there is any information about me out there that anyone could get a hold of. Had my identity stole once before - talk about one huge nightmare! I'm more careful now.
That's a creative idea. I'd love to have a listen, but I'd never have the nerve to ask! n
OP
My vent...why is it a not a good idea??
The reason is to conserve energy. You might even save a few bucks. But on the other hand, I'm sure they didn't think of what a major inconvenience it would be to turn your clocks ahead a little bit early.
I think a checklist is a good idea sm
That way it would be clear exactly what you want and what you don't want. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that - it facilitates communication and you can request that they check off each item as they complete it. If they start slacking off, you can give them a warning and if they don't improve, either reduce the amount paid or let them go.
I didn't realize that I was expected to tip but several people have mentioned it. I think the amount I am paying is very generous for the amount of work she does. My husband and I both are pretty much neat freaks and I make sure that all the counters are decluttered and there is very little that she has to move to mop or vacuum (just dog bed, throw rugs, etc.).
I will certainly give her a Christmas bonus and since she will be getting married in the fall I will probably get her a wedding gift, also. But I really can't afford to tip, especially not $20.
What is the general consensus? Am I being rude by not tipping?
