Love the "family tree" idea! My lists inside.........

In Reply to: Cutting back on Christmas spending this year - inexpensive gifts?
Let's see........
Jewerly for girls - name bracelets and necklaces.
Name poems and frames (still get updated requests for these and will be on my list this year). Those kind that say J is for so and so, etc.
Rice socks one year.
Candles and lotions. I bought the kits to do this with at Hobby Lobby and let my kids help make them.
Keepsake boxes. I got the copy paper boxes that are very sturdy, wrapped in material, and decorated the box and top. Makes really good keepsake boxes and you could also do several sized boxes too.
Photo albums - also bought plain and decorated with material, ribbons, buttons, etc. Picture frames could be done the same way.
One year we made stones for the grandparents. Bought the kits at Hobby Lobby and decorated with stones and engraved sayings on them. You could do hand prints or just about anything. For my mom, we made memory stones of my sister, my grandmother, and my grandfather. We just put one that said "in loving memory of" and the other's with their names on them. She put them in her rose garden.

Love those Steelers!!! Here is our tree...
Can you see some of the Steelers ornaments?
I have 2 kitties too who love sitting under the tree. However,
my question is: Where did you find the Wii????? LOL
Don't do frozen. We get the "family"
size from Papa Murphy's.
Would love to have some of the inside
scoop, how about sharing some?
Female bounty hunter, in love with 2 guys (see inside)
one is a cop, the other is a mysterious bounty hunter who dresses in black and is very sexy (I think he's Cuban or something, I forget). Her family is hysterically funny, better than any sitcom ever on TV. Fast, funny read, great stress reliever.
I have read them all including #13, I get them from the library.
Love this idea!
Thanks so much! We need 7 ideas so still interested in hearing other ideas as well.
Love you idea too. Yours is even more
special because this is something you made yourself. Our first Christmas here my kids and I mad cranberry pumpkin bread (miniture loaves) for everyone in the neighborhood. At the time there were about 15 houses, now there are over 50. One muslim family asked if there was meat in it (we did put the receipe with the loaf). An oriental family asked "How much" when my dauther handed it to them. Fun way to get to know your neighbors.
I love that idea!

Fake tree or real tree? Big or small?...sm
How about one of those old Evergleam aluminum trees with a color wheel? Wish mommy hadn't gotten rid of ours, darn it.

I love the idea of uniforms...sm
Of course, I would not be saying that at age 14 and 16, though! I think that kids can be individuals outside of the schools. It would make the "poor" kids and "rich" kids all look the same. It would take away distractions in high schools (and I WAS one of those girls who wore....revealing outfits!). This is just my opinion. I know a lot of people disagree, especially kids and I see their point of view too. I do, however, think it would better for the actual schooling part of school.
I LOVE the gas card idea...nm

LOVE it! Great idea.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Love your solution.

That's a creative idea. I'd love to have a listen, but I'd never have the nerve to ask! n
OP
I Love Sally's! Good idea to get the savings card for $5.00
also. You pretty much make it back and-then-some on just a couple of purchases. And they are not expensive to start, I don't think. MUCH cheaper than the stuff at the salons where they can charge $20 for a bottle of shampoo! I have had much success with finding products you can't get anywhere else, such as salon-strength reconstructors/deep conditioning products the salons "won't" sell you, and charge you 15.00 or so for one application, because they want you to keep coming back for them! Cha-ching! Salons are truly such a rip off. At Sally's, I'm like a kid in a candy store! ;)
Love the doggie car-seat idea - you are a good mommy :)
I'm so sorry about your sister's dogs.
Lists
I agree with this. Also, would say it depends on account specifics and how the hospital wants it done, all up to them.
Do what you want to do, not what the lists tell you -sm
Just because it is on a list does not mean you have to do it. I planned my whole wedding well in advance and it all went great. All we did was a wedding in my parents back yard, had about 40-50 guests, had food catered and enjoyed ourselves. I did get a cake though (my 1st and only wedding hopefully) as I had this vision of how I wanted certain things to be, flowers and a wedding dress; but that is about as traditional as I went. We had a swim party reception; no DJ, just the radio playing. Still somewhat expensive, all in all it cost about $5K, that is everything from flowers to the honeymoon, but in terms of the big picture rather reasonable. As for a wedding gift to hubby, we sort of did that, but not on the wedding day. He ended up buying me china on our honeymoon (found a complete set of 9 of some beautiful Wedgwood in Canada for $400, so we stamped it up); and I got us a weekend package to the Pocono's for race weekend (Nascar) as a 1-month anniversary gift. Just go with your gut and don't get pressured into doing anything you do not want to do; and have fun!
Don't let these lists influence you..just get.
xx
Yeah but so why do they buy lists
of people with bad credit and inundate them with offers of credit cards (at huge interest fees of course). And people who have filed bankruptcy, they can't give you enough credit after that.
I'm not saying everyone who files bankruptcy is scamming the system but the ones who do by running up as many charges as they can before declaring it so they don't have to pay for any of it really tick me off and they totally get away with it. And I think the credit card companies just write it all off anyway. Meanwhile those of us who are plugging along and paying them off, albeit it slowly, are treated like second class citizens.
you can choose a realtor who uses/lists
with the MLS service. We've moved a lot and never would use a realtor who didn't.
We had luck too before listing in the LA Times or San Fran papers when we had a place in the country/mid USA..had a party fly out to see it, and paid cash. Appeal to what people are wanting, ie, escape the high crime, the crowded city, live surrounded by nature/georgeous trees...good luck!
There are probably waiting lists for little dogs at the shelter and/or

I haven't started yet, but have started my lists.
The only reason I haven't started yet is because of $$$. But I have started some good lists for the kids and the DH. I actually have some good ideas for him this year (he is hard to buy for).
I'm like you, I love Christmas but hate the commercialism of it. We were at Costco a while back looking for Halloween costumes and they already had their Christmas stuff out. They always make me feel like I'm already late on my shopping!
I may do a lot of online shopping this year. It's easier with little ones. My 2yo is more aware this year so taking him with me to buy his own presents is out. Darn!
It always seems that Halloween (my favorite) takes forever to get here, but once it's over, then the holiday rush is on.
Happy Holidays everyone!
Is your Tree up?
My Christmas tree won't go up till way closer to Christmas. We always get a real one. I know some people love to put theirs up right after Thanksgiving day! Some of us wait it out a bit longer.
When do you put your tree up? Real or Fake?
X-mas tree
We put up tree 2-3 weeks before Xmas. Kids are 17 and 15 now and don't get as excited about it anymore. Last year, DD's friend who is Jewish helped decorate. She had so much fun because she has never done it before that it made it fun for all of us again.
And you know, the tree and the egg nog
Had LOTS to do with it :)... you can turn even the crabbiest HumBug scrooge into a rum-drinkin, holiday singin fool! And I appreciate that tons....:) Thanks.
Here is my Tree ...
Please post yours.

Our Tree
It's way too small for the space, but we got it when we were in a smaller house with lower ceilings. I still like it though. Took this before I got all the presents wrapped.

American Idol - Love, love, love Adam!!!
I think he'll make it til the end! At least I hope so!
Real Tree
We just put our tree up today. A 10 footer that we paid $35 for which I thought was a great deal. We used to have an artificial tree until our cat started eating the needles (she won't touch the real needles). She got really sick (the needles stayed in her stomach) and she had to have an emergency operation. No more artificial tree from then on.
Real tree
I'll never do fake.
real tree
not bought, but hunted for; we love the smell of cedar throughout the house!
First fake tree ever!
I put it up last night and I have to say, it's quite impressive! Lots of lights, nice shape, easy to put together and even has a remote control to switch the lights on and off. I miss the smell of a real tree but not the mess.

I am interested in buying a home. The banks here want at last 20% down. I am just wondering what other options I have.
The Education of Little Tree (sm)

Education of Little Tree?
I did not see the View, but I do own this book and loved it. It supposedly was an autobiography by Forest Carter, but turns out he made the whole thing up, which ended up being a really disappointed me as I found the characters so real. I live in the mountains of WNC and am part Cherokee. Good to hear that your kids are into tribal life.
prelit tree
I agree with the others, I love mine and will never, ever have an old tree again. We keep ours in the garage and have for the last 2 years, and it still works!
Artificial tree
My MIL has a table top artificial tree that she decorated around 10 years ago. At the end of each holiday season, she covers it with a sheet and puts in the back of the closet. I don't know if the lights even work anymore or if she changed them at some point. It is just really funny every year when we get it out of the closet, take off the sheet, and voila! grammy is ready for another xmas.
