Hairstyle suggestions
The holidays are coming up and I have this really fun idea, but need advice. I live in Florida and am er um cough, a bit over 39. Anyway, I am a blonde and wanted to get a retro look. I want to go to a hairdresser who is old-fashioned and uses set and curlers and I want to get my hair very light, and have a set put in and sit under the hair dryer like in the old days our grandma or mom used to do. I think it would look pretty like a 50s retro look. But, I cannot find a hairdresser who even knows what a set is these days. For the longest time it seems that a blow dry was enough and my hair is too thin for that. I want to have the ringlet curls which give body. I also like the idea of going once a week for an hour to sit, have my hair done and read magazines and drink coffee like the ladies did in the old days. A great time out just for me, to make me feel and look pretty. Anybody got suggestions on how to finally find a hairdresser who would do this type of thing? Any comments or advice would be great. I can't wait to set up my day of beauty!
Anyone have any suggestions for meeting nice fellows more middle aged. I have tried
the dating sites and am not too impressed with those people. It seems like most of them have serious cash flow problems from so many divorces, etc. Not looking to support someone for sure.
I can't stop laughing....Whoopi in the middle? If she is in the middle, rush limbaugh is very far
She is further left than Rosie.
As a bridesmaid, what do you like for yourself? :) Spaghetti straps certainly aren't flattering

short arms, short-term memory loss...
I too suffer from Short Arm Syndrome. Add to that the short-term memory loss that middle-age brings and I have now discovered I need to lasso the &*%$ reading glasses around my neck or my day will be spent wandering in circles asking the dog where my glasses are.
I have two pairs, per advice of doctor. I do not wear glasses all the time, so he thought I was not ready for bifocals. My son gave me a wonderful eyeglass case for Christmas that is big enough to hold both pairs should I ever venture out of the house amongst the living.
I did manage to find some "sporty" looking around-the-neck-eye glass holder thingies - what DO you call those things? I'd use twine before getting those multicolored beaded ones. I have a neon coral one and an emerald green one. Too bad I can't find the former, I can't remember where I put it.
Type of hairstyle and thanks for the ideas
Thanks everybody for the good ideas! Yes, the type of look I am going for is the curly around the face mid neck, frame face, Marilyn Monroe look. Seems like actresses these days like that. I often see hair extensions on e bay, but that is silly for me, as my hair is about the right length, just needs to be lightened and put in curlers after being shaped, and by the right stylist. I know they don't last long these dos, that is why I would like to go once a week. There is something to be said about an MT working at home having something to look forward to just once a week which does not involve work, bills, kids, husbands, etc. As a matter of fact, when you are under a hair dryer you can't even hear anyone! Then, I figure I would feel pretty even just typing at home, instead of all well yukky in my bun. I still don't understand why stylists did away with sets, it was kind of a cultural thing which went away. I say bring it back (along with supper clubs, but that is a whole 'nother topic). And yes, I am just in my 40s, but born in the wrong era, I guess. :)
I would say 39 is middle age
since average life expectancy is around 78 or so. Doesn't mean I like it :)
I don't know about that...middle age 60-80?
Meaning most people live to like 120-160? WOW! lol I don't know what everyone else is thinking by these replies but I always thought middle age meant the "MIDDLE" of one's lifetime...doesn't it????
Right in the middle of
Carol Burnette on The View. I live in Virgina and am not very concerned about the NY governor. Although I do think he should resign.

yes we sure are here in middle America!
So do my folks on the w. coast, and our celeb friend in Tx, its great! Dancing is an art form, and i am intriged by the quickness and methods that these newbies learn the dances, how well they perform them, how their character plays into it, etc. Love it!
TLR look towards the middle of this page
there is a post up above for you!
i got caught in the middle
of a redneck area. needless to say, I fled the area and the boyfriend. too much for me. I'm a yankee, and so is he, but he was use to the so called rednecks. I do love the more cosmo parts of south. Can't help it!!
Here in middle Georgia, we are just
happy not to have the 100s. Reasonable now at 76 today. Gosh, fall… oh, yes, that is when the leaves all fall.
In the middle of the CA fires
We definitely need prayers. I am in Thousand Oaks, California, inland between Malibu and fires on the other side - Piru, Canyon Country, Stevenson Ranch. Breathing is almost impossible. The first day we were clouded completely in white smoke and ashes everywhere. All the windows have been closed for days, and still I find fine dust and ash all over inside the house. I have been here in this town for 26 years, and have never ever seen winds like these. It is unbelievable. We get a break in the wind, and the sky clears, but just when you think it is over, there is another fire erupting somewhere nearby. So far, no fires in the immediate town, just smoke drifting over to our city. We need prayers. If I am a nervous wreck I can imagine how heartbreaking it is for the people who have lost everything to the fires. They say maybe this will let up tomorrow. I can't image another day of this. The winds are so strong, my yards are destroyed. All the flowers in the beds are down, my vegetable garden is ruined, and there are tree branches all over my roof. This too will pass.
Yep, smack dab in the middle.
Near some joint called Bangor.
My husband took a nap once in the middle of the day
and by 8:00 p.m., his wife, in her early 40s, had died. It was completely unexpected. She was not sick prior to this happening.
That time he was right. I can count a zillion other times when his predictions and dreams were dead wrong.
Nothing with UFOs, sorry. I remain a skeptic.
liar is my middle name
or is it fraudulent, deceitful, duplicitous, or two-faced? I kind of like the sound of two-faced. It's perfect for me.
In the middle of the night?
They'd come in every night, have a noisy destructive party, and leave come dawn. Does the animal control in your area work 24/7? Ours doesn't. We tried blocking all entrances to the basement and they'd dig around it and get in anyway, making it clear they wouldn't take no for an answer. Was I supposed to blast music down my ducts all night, every night? I don't think so, my sleep is more important. IMO its less "cruel" than hunting for "sport". I was protecting my property and my peace of mind. I also have no problem killing bats that get in my house, and trapping smaller animals and relocating them elsewhere. If animals are outside, I don't mess with them. If they come in my house, I have a right to get them out by any means necessary.
If that is middle-class then I have to be
below the poverty level.
middle-aged
The only time the kids are allowed to hang out at my house is on my days off.
If my kids are bored, they do some of the chores I would have otherwise had to do like cooking, cleaning, fixing things around the house, etc.
As far as I am concerned the cure for boredom is WORK and the cure for work is play, in that order. Why should they goof around and eat your food while you bust your tail? Put them to work or send them home.
My son also volunteers for the local museum when he becomes too self-absorbed for anyone to stand him. That snaps him back into shape! and you are right, the dropping/picking up is a giant pain.
And not that it is true, but my son says that the "mall" is where they are hooking up in the dressing rooms, so I don't think I would pick that as an alternative....just me...
I'm in the middle of book now, very good!
I've always liked her and wanted to read more about her and Phil, how they met and all. I can relate in some ways with the alcoholic father. I'm going to try to finish it tonight or over the weekend, at least!
The older I get, the higher *middle age* becomes. lol. nm

I guess I'm middle aged at 55 but
I snow skiied 7 hours in 2 days, plus I'm a certified open water scuba diver. I walk 20 miles a week and I can run rings around my sons who are 30 and 25... Age is just a number!!! susan

wait until middle school!
This is easy-cheesy stuff. In middle school, they get really catty. Glad those years are over. High school has actually been a dream in comparison.
Well, I'm right in the middle, not skinny just healthy
I've never really been skinny, I'm too curvy to ever be skinny, but I'm at a healthy weight (bmi of 21) and very happy with my body. I pretty much eat whatever I want, just know I need to exercise more if I eat high-calorie/high-fat foods. I've been overweight but was miserable and decided to make a change, definitely much happier now.
whoopi is in the middle - not left, not right...

I keep dreaming about going to a funeral and in the middle SM
of the service the deceased gets up and falls on ME! No kidding. Two nights ago TWO of them in one night! What the hay does that mean??? I need your wisdom and guidance!
Okay, it's the middle of November, where's Jericho?? sm
Yes, I looked online but couldn't find any chatter about it except I guess the writer's strike may be the cause for the delay in airing the new season. I've been waiting very patiently.... Anyone know when we might expect to see it air??
For those middle aged ladies on here, if you are
5' 3-1/2" and a medium build what weight do you like to keep yourself at without looking too gaunt or too heavy.
What exactly is considered Middle Class?
Unless I heard wrong last night, during the debate, $250,000 is considered "Middle" class. I don't think so.
Anyone?
Yes, especially me (oldest) and my middle sister. (sm)
Main difference is she's taller. One time she was visiting me and we went out for lunch. A lady came up to us and asked, 'Are you identical twins or fraternal twins?' She sure was surprised to learn that we weren't twins at all, just regular, run-of-the-mill sisters!
middle school kids who need
The library will accept volunteers at age 11. I would go sign up today.
Every other place has insurance restrictions for age.
All the camps around here fill up in February or March, but I would still try to find her something fun to do. Meeting other kids at camp may cost you money, but when she is there she is not thinking about money, just being with the other kids her age.
Or when they leave their cart in the middle of the parking lot
when the cart corral is right nearby. One time, I saw a lady unload her groceries and then just give her cart a push across the parking lot. She saw me watching her and jumped in her car quick and drove away. That's just laziness.
Putting in middle initial so can differentiate
the difference is that apparetnly this law is to have women see a fetus growing and thinking this will change their mind by seeing the ultrasound. My heart told me what to do and my mind certainly was such that I had more sense than to bring a child into the world I could not possibly care for financially to start with. I never worried a minute or a day with my decision. I can live with most all decisions I have made in my life very easily.
It is very common in the south to keep your maiden name as your middle name. But, I sm
was talking about not taking your husband's name at all.
I use middle rack unless large cut that needs more room.

People who constantly interrupt me in the middle of a SM
sentence. A friend called last night at 10:45 (that's another one . . . she doesn't work, is home all evening and decides to call all the time when I am going to bed), and I tried to finish a sentence three different times. She kept interrupting and yelling something to her husband (loudly in my ear). She finally finished talking to him and then said "Go on. . . " I was just quiet for about 20 seconds waiting for the another interruption. Bad habit and very, very annoying. Sweet person, but drives me nuts.

I have 2 children in middle school (5th and 6th) grade. sm
They have 4 different lines they can choose from. They have the regular line; the Mexi/Itali line which has spaghetti, raviolis, tacos, etc, the sub line which has sub sandwiches, baked potatos and salads; and the the "fast food line" which has popcorn chicken, steak fingers, etc. They also offer sports drinks, ice cream, tea etc. Our school website is set up where I can view what they have for lunch on a daily basis and so if I see them making a bad choice, I can discuss it with them. Might want to suggest something like this to your school officials.
Definitely short ones
I love in Fridays when my doc does all his patients that were tested for allergies that week.
I have. See him on infomercials in the middle of the morning trying to sell is nonsense...
to fill is how pockets. Just one example of his "natural cures"....any physician will confirm, with 100% certainty, that patients with end-stage renal disease who receive dialysis 3 x weekly can not be cured by KT's natural methods. He's one of the biggest so-called medically knowledged shysters out there, praying on innocent, uneducated, poor people.
I take a Tagamet before bed. It has completely eliminated that middle-of-the-night sm
problem associated with GERD and LPR. I had that really bad type with the vomit-like taste, severe burning and pain. Tagamet was suggested by a friend and is the only thing that works. I forgot it one night and it was right back. It's OTC which is nice and a lot less invasive that surgery! If you can stop the acid, you stop the problems associated with it. Good luck!
Orlando is near middle of state and no beaches close, so

hopefully this will be short-lived
I'd still send pictures, etc., especially to your grandparents. Good luck!
My hair is very short right now.
Short layers and all I have to do is spray a little hairspray on it and run my fingers through it and I'm good to go. It has gotten much thicker over the years and hair color has helped with that too. I hate that I have to color my hair, though. I started going gray almost 20 years ago and I just turned 40. At some point, I will bite the bullet and let the color grow out, but haven't gotten there yet. Not ready to be totally gray.
My hair is short
When it starts to get even a little long, I have to go out and get it cut. I don't like the way my hair or the way I look when it gets too long. I just put some gel in it and go. The only thing I don't like is that it can get dry in the sun. I've been dying my hair for about five years or so (46 now). I won't let it go gray, but that's just me. My daughter is only 4 so I feel I would look like her grandmother if I let it go gray.
