I cannot believe that Kid Nation is really going to air.
I just think that is the most messed up thing I have read about.
http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_6785625 (snipet from the on-line article)
...."Jeff Hermanson, assistant executive director of the Writers Guild of America, said in the Los Angeles Times last week, "To me, this is the sweatshop of the entertainment industry. What's happened with `Kid Nation' is typical and universal, but it's much worse because it's about children."
Throwing even more fuel on the fire: the agreement signed by the parents of the kids and the production company, a copy of which was obtained by the New York Times. In the contract - a standard one used by most reality shows - the parents (who could not visit their kids during filming) essentially signed away the children's rights, absolving Forman's company and CBS from any responsibility for injuries, working conditions or unsafe housing.
There was also a clause covering "emotional distress, illness, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV and pregnancy."
And if the parents complained to the press, they were subject to a $5 million penalty under a confidentiality agreement."....
Red Sox nation!
Lots of your fellow Sox fanatics down here in Florida, believe me. We just had em in to play the Rays and then was glued to the playoffs and of course, the series!! I have head more Dropkick Murphys in the past week than I have in the last 100 years!! You are never anything better than a Bostonian and we were crazy happy down here!! Go PATS!!
I live in Red Sox Nation!!!!
The Sox are the best! I watched Papplebon on Letterman the other night. It was awesome.
and our nation IS America.
and the opposite of PROgress is CONgress! (he-yuck)
We as a nation are so scared now days
My grandmother lived to 75 and her daughter, my aunt, now 86 and both used and told me about Campho-Phenique and get this, when I had an ulcer in my mouth my aunt told me to use this. Now I do not go about swishing and swallowing but used it on the sores, got relief and well, I am writing this post. It can be used in the mouth with no problem.
Are we living in a big-brother nation
While I feel it was disrespectful from the student I feel it should have been handled differently. I don't believe the school should have been involved, since it didn't happen on school property or with school property. If I was the teacher I would have contacted the parents and talked to them and let them know how uncomfortable I feel about something that was written about me and let the parents handle how to discipline their own child. The school should have no say on how to discipline this child. What will the next step of the studen't personal life will the school decide to be involved in.
Anyone a Survivor fan?
Who do you pick for the final 3?
Just one?? Survivor sm
But also looking forward to Jericho and CSI (I want to know what happens to Sara). Also looking forward to a couple of new shows, mostly the one with the kids - ?Kid Nation and the one with the vampire coming on after Jennifer Love Hewitt. I'm sooooo tired of reruns!!
survivor
I'm a lumpectomy survivor and I'd say anything that opens in the front and is easy to get in and out of. Fortunately, I didn't have to have a mastectomy but I would assume there will be frequent exams during the postop course and probably painful to raise arms, if able to at all. I personally liked pajamas with top that buttoned in front - don't have to get completely undressed and easy to get in and out of. Best wishes to your friend. Will say a prayer for her.

Survivor Fans????
What'd you all think of that blindside tonight? I loved every minute of it. While I'm not a fan of Natalie, I don't much care for Eric, either. I'm pulling for Amanda, but unless she wins immunity, I don't think Parv and Cerie are going to take her to the final 3.
This has been the best season yet of Survivor. The blindsides have been awesome! I still can't believe Eric was that stupid to trust 4 women.

Looking back over my experience as an owner and as a renter, raising my children alone with limited resources:
Renting is easier and more cost effective for you than buying.
Pro's of renting:
1. Low deposit to get in the door.
2. Rent is usually reasonable and oftentimes contract won't go up if you are a good renter.
3. MAINTENANCE is the responsibility of the management -- you are not out for those costs.
4. You can leave with a 30-day notice.
Pro's of ownership:
1. You are building equity.
2. Tax breaks.
3. If financial crisis, it takes about 6 to 9 months to get to foreclosure so you do have some time to find another place.
Con's of renting:
1. May require a background and/or credit check.
2. Although evictions are subject to some jurisdiction (they must give you a 10-day notice), it can be quicker to evict you from a rental than from your own property.
Con's of ownership:
1. ALL maintenance and repairs are up to you. Can be very costly.
2. You cannot get out of this very easily - especially in this market.
Hope this helps.
Miscarriage survivor question for others who have been through this...sm
How did you get through the time period when your baby was due? I lost my little angel at 11 weeks and the baby was due mid-June. Both my husband and myself have had good and bad days since the miscarriage but I'm fnding the closer to the due date I get the more sensitive I'm becoming. I just about burst into tears when walking into Target tonight I saw a lady that looked like she was around the stage of pregnancy I should have been at.
Any advice to keep the sanity?
True. And why dont people going on Survivor learn

It was wheat from China.........sm
News was that China sprays some of their wheat with a rodenticide and somehow, this spray was on the wheat they shipped over to Canada. I just can't believe the Canadian company didn't check the wheat first BEFORE it went into the food.
Trade with China
... and this is only the beginning. When one considers China is still a communist country, does not have human rights let alone dignity for how it treats its animals, all I can do is shake my head. In China there is no such thing as environmental law. People and companies dump toxic waste every day in rivers and streams, excretment, human and animal, is strewn where they grow their food, animals are treated in a fashion that would horrify us, and dangerous chemicals are not controlled in their country to the extent they are here - so how can we expect them to have a standard we have been used to? And who can we hold responsible? Our government, the agency who is to supposed to protect us citizens. Since corporations run our government today, the agencies, namely the FDA can only do so much. The FDA in itself is in dire need of overhauling. This is a dangerous gray area we are entering. Coporations have much protection and sanctions when it comes to their business practices, and how much legally they are required to tell the consumer. The time has come for the American public to demand more from the companies we purchase products from, and as I always say, ADVOCATE, ADVOCATE, ADVOCATE. It is our right and responsiblity as American citizens to address these issues and demand change.
cracked me up - new take on china
hard to get a guy dishes and after 20 years who wants more china unless you really entertain the rich and famous.
China will take over the world in about 2040
Have you noticed the fortune cookies coming from Chinese restaurants? At least where I live, these papers in the fortune cookies are now teaching the Chinese alphabet and Chinese words. You think this is subliminal? The folks who know Chinese and Mandarin language here in the states will have an easier time of it WHEN China takes over the world by understanding the language way ahead of time.

Question about my new China cabinet
First one I have ever owned, has 3 tiers and I have china to put in it plus I have some crystal. My question- does it make any difference what shelf each is on or not? Am not going to have enough to half fill it so any suggestions?
It doesn't have to be filled with china. SM
You can put anything in there with the china. Books, pictures, knick knacks, whatever you feel looks good. It would be nice to add some color, since glassware is clear and china might be light.
Breakfront China cabinet
I recently bought a new breakfront and have my China in the cabinet. This is the issue. I have 2 (maybe 3) other sets of China, 1 from a relative, that I thought perhaps I could also show in the breakfront. Has anyone else done this? I do not want it tacky looking.
replacements.com for discontinued china, etc.
you could try replacements.com. that's where i get my discontinued waterford flutes, as well as my wedding china, & poppies on blue, which have all been discontinued. they're in excellent condition, too! i hope this helps, if that's what you're looking for.
Is China ready for the Olympics?
I have a barberry - thorns and china doll and boy
holly under my window where I work. I won't be aware anything is going on until I hear a huge ruckus of twittering birds in those bushes and look out and there sits Cooper. He has gotten mourning doves and when I was walking I saw him with a baby something this summer. I love my birds but that hawk is gorgeous and I have been told by bird feeding stores that the hawk doesn't eat much. It takes him many attempts to come up with a meal.

lead in toys/Made in China...beware of Happy Meal toys
I watched a special on CNN yesterday about lead content in toys. I did not realize by your child simply touching a toy and putting his fingers in his mouth he could be ingesting lead. The special included a segment on a nice family that lived in a brand new home with a 2 year old and 6 month old. They both tested positive for lead. A 2 year old!!!! Worried, I went to my boy's toybox this morning and it is AMAZING how many painted toys are from China. Most notably this includes happy meal toys. I haven't gotten through one toy box and already have a trash bag full of toys. Please, please go through your children's toys. Lead ingestion can lead to brain damage. Be paranoid. Throw away all of the made in China stuff. Christmas is just weeks away--they will be getting new stuff (hopefully stuff that is paint-free!).
Your best bet is to buy made in the USA toys but even safer toys are unpainted blocks, Legos and books. A good, safe place to look for toys is www.mindware.com.
pass this on!
