Has anyone ever attended the Kentucky Derby? Do you have any info you'd care to share? I would like to attend but would like to find out all I can before I go. Thanks a bunch.

Kentucky Derby
Thanks so much for your info. I want so bad to go but have no knowledge of the area or anything so somewhat skeptical. I don't see any chance of getting tickets other than general admission and would like for us to at least be able to see the track. If you think of anything else, I'd be glad to hear it.
Pinewood derby
Regarding the pinewood derby cars, our church has a similar program, and the adults only race against the adults, and the little kids only race against the little kids, and the older kids race against the older kids which helps some to keep it fair. Sorry to hear it wasn't such a fun event in your church. Maybe you will be able to implement some more fair guidelines to help prevent tears in the future. Good luck and God bless,

pinewood derby races - rant
My son was in a pinewood derby race at church. There is so much for kids to learn about the car design, ect.
Here is my rant. Why don't they have rules about what the fathers can/can't help with! The cars that the father's obviously did won first place for every single grade. It was ridiculous I've never seen so many 8-year-old boys in tears. I think these men are sick that winning against a kid gets them off.
Except for sawing the car and nailing the axels it should be hands off for the dad! It was so obvious between a car that a man designed/traced and painted vs. a kid. They even had an adult category the men could have entered into.
Has anyone experienced this?
When we moved to Kentucky from NY...sm
14 years ago I was filling out that pile of paperwork for my sons and came across the document about paddling....I was appalled.....How archaic! My mother has taught in NY for 42 years and I assure you it's not an acceptable practice! I just wrote "What, are you kidding me?" and got called into the principal's office to explain myself.
Also, when asked about race I checked OTHER and wrote HUMAN....Got called in again to the principal's office. Cat

I am in Kentucky and as of this morning in
my area there are still over 10,000 without power since Monday night/Tuesday morning of last week. People use car radios, battery radios, anything they can to find out what is goign one. I sat in my car every hour the news came on and also used my car to charge my cell phone so I could stay in touch.
Kentucky is 3 years too.

Are you from Kentucky? Louisville was the only place I ever encountered hot
brown!
Live in Kentucky - our kids get 2 weeks
at Christmas, 3 days at Thanksgiving, 1 week spring break in April and they get any days missed tacked on at end of year. This year the kids in my area are going 2 extra weeks because of 2 major disasters (wind storm and ice storm) after which they missed a total of 2 weeks of school. They also have various days throughout the year for "teacher conference" days. There are no 2 hour delays.
We deal with it like we always have. If you work at home no problem, if not you use babysitters, daycare, grandparents, etc.
