I just finished transcribing a report on a 3-month-old with a viral meningitis. The mom is being shipped out to Iraq in less than a week. The baby was born several weeks prematurely (with no apparent complications) and now is being admitted with this illness. I'm just aghast that the mom is being deployed after only 3 months. I realize the FMLA only allows for 12 weeks, but this isn't just a mom *going back to work*. She will be leaving her infant to go to another country. Is this standard operating procedure? I thought moms could be honorably discharged or at least given a year at home with a newborn.
I have always been very grateful to our service men and women, whether I agree or disagree with the war in Iraq. I am certainly not questioning this mom's commitment or dedication to her family or her country. I'm just curious if she could request an extended leave or discharge in this instance or not. I don't have any close female family or friends in the military that I could ask, so I was hoping someone here might know.

I'm 50 and coffee was my eye opener. Don't
know what happened, but it doesn't work for me anymore. I sleep anywhere from 6 to 8 hours and that doesn't help. Can't seem to concentrate on work either. LOL - Yikes, I"m a mess
It is a real eye-opener.
I would have never thought to call 911 much less do CPR. Good grief.
I like my pizza stone and can opener the best.
Any stone is nice if you bake. The items I use and LOVE the most are their spatulas. Everything is kinda pricey. They do have things in all price ranges though. I also like their cook books. I have never been to a power party! Have fun.
If you want a real eye opener about our food
read Fast Food Nation, by Eric Schlosser. I believe that the movie based on this book was recently released as well, but my sister had read the book a couple of years ago, and I recently checked it out of the library and am reading it now . . . just shocking and unbelievable what is going on in the meatpacking companies and, indeed, the country.
Also, if there is anything that can make me appreciate being a work-at-home MT, bad as it may be at times, this book is definitely it!
