or say fine go, but you are paying your own way and getting there on your own as you won't compromise your kid's safety, and say maybe, maybe we can have dinner together one night, but other than that you are on your own. Stress you want to spend time with your family with no one else, and relax with them and do outings etc, no hassles. Years ago my parents decided to take our whole family to Disney, when my in-laws heard about the trip they said they were going to go to Florida the same week too so they could vacation with us too. My mom had a cow, I was less than thrilled as well, especially since this was the first and only time my family had ever done anything like that. Luckily due to lack of enthusiasm on mine and my DH's part she got the hint that it was not too cool, and "changed" her mind OR maybe because my in-laws don't spend a dime they don't have to, the only other thing I can figure is my FIL's brother could not put them up that week (he lives near Orlando) so as they would not spring for a hotel room they decided not to go. I never asked why they changed their mind, was just happy they did. ---Sounds like your mom is just looking for a cheap vacation too with you holding the bag and paying the price in more ways than one. So bite the bullet, tell her no, maybe soften the blow with the suggestion maybe you can do a weekend at the lake together, or some other family outing. Bad form to invite yourself on someone else's vacation.
