We normally do have the door locked but the garage door was open...
and my husband did ask them to call first and they still didn't listen...they never do...I think they think they don't have to call...

just say that now is not a good time for a visit and to call before coming next time (because you work from home and cannot just drop everything when someone pops by)(add that on if you chose to). They may not like hearing any of it but tough cookies. If you are out of sight, just don't answer the door, if it happens often enough maybe they will think to call first next time and you can again say no, or to nip the visits in the bud say you are quiting that church and to please stop calling you. I am in the boonies and get the occasional church groupie visits of various faiths, I just tell them "not interested" and they go on their merry way without a fight for the most part. Good luck.
Is it okay for your in-laws to come to your house and open your door without first knocking?
My in-laws did this the other day and I just find it very rude...They do this all the time...we tell them to please call before they come over (just in case the baby is sleeping or we are doing something) but they never listen...anyone else have this problem???

Door to door sock salesman
Okay, so yesterday a little old man shows up at my door. Now let me say that I do not live in a neighborhood, really. I live on a major highway so you actually have to drive into my driveway and you can't really get to the next house without getting back in your car and driving there.
So I open the door and there's this little old man there with pairs of socks in large ziplock bags. He says:
"I'm raising money for a cancer operation to get cancer out of my stomach and I want you to buy these two bags of socks."
I say, "I'm sorry, I don't have any cash in the house, but good luck."
"How can you not have any cash in the house?"
"We use credit cards."
"You can't just use credit cards. Doesn't your husband live with you?"
"He's at work. Good luck, have a nice day."
"Well when he gets home he should have cash on him."
"Nope sorry, we're not interested. Have a good day."
I closed the door and he left.
Odd....very odd. But here's where it gets even more odd.
Today he showed up AGAIN. Only this time he didn't come to the door. He sat in his car in my driveway and beeped his horn. My mail lady does this when we have a package so I opened the door to go out, thinking it was her. The dog scooted out and while I was trying to get him back in I realized it was this man again......BEEPING for me to come to his car to sell the socks, I guess. I was so mad that my dog got loose I looked at him and yelled "WHAT DO YOU WANT??? I don't need any socks today!!!" Picked up the dog and went back in the house and slammed the door. He didn't get a word in edgewise. I'm hoping he won't be back.....I was down right RUDE to this man. I never speak to anyone that way. Hopefully he won't be back. Steve is concerned that he showed up a second time and even more concerned that he wanted me to go to his car this time. He wants me to get a plate number if this man comes back.

True Christianity causes people to live right (notice i didn't say perfect). and where do you think our laws came from? They are biblically based my friend. If its Bible, its absolute truth; if its man-originated, its fallible. I still say (and its a scripture as well), paraphrased: lack of knowledge destroys His people.
You have to know what right is, to live it. Yes, it is a lack of God in one's life.
toy box I got at a garage sale
I saw what I thought would make a great little wood toybox but when I looked closer it had The Budwiser Clydesdales engraved on it. It is in great shape, only a few scratches but nothing major. I paid $20 for it. I had saw it and described it to dh on the phone and he doesn't think I should put that in the girls room. (5 and 18 months). So I bought it and put it in the hallway with some toys stacked on top. You have to look close to see it. Am I terrible to use that for a toy box. Dh doesn't think it is a good idea. As already stated, you can barely see it and I thought it would be a great way to get to get some toys off the floor. Maybe when I find a better one I can sale that at my garage sale.
She already stated that the garage was full
and that they said they would take them instead. Sometimes you do things like that for family, ya know?
Also, she would most definitely say, "why did you store them near the street where you had other things stolen before and stored yours in a safe place?" That is negligence!
Since their quads were not stolen, only the ones right by the street, it is obvious they acted negligently. She stated that the only things stolen on the property were right near the street before. Why would someone put something that they are storing for someone in the same place? That is negligence.
I have no doubt she would probably tell the OP that they should have cleaned the garage and took care of their own quads, but legally, her sister is at fault.
Garage Sale Advice.
We are having a garage sale this weekend and I need any advice that you have to give. What things do you like to see or things that you absolutely hate. What time do you hit the roads? Do you look for signs or newspaper ads? Thanks for any tips.

cat/garage/tile situation
I'd ask your vet about it. You may not even have to put them in the garage. I have three, and my little "queen bee" regularly sleeps on my lap as I attempt to type! Slows me down, but I just couldn't have it any other way (she wouldn't, either)!
Anyway, good luck to the "tile situation." Their health is very important. Do y'all have an upstairs by chance?

I don't think it does as long as you make sure they make sure on your report it says "Closed by subscriber"...or something like that.
If it looks like the CC company closed it, then it would look suspicious.

I have sold some property, not closed on but
get this- the new "owners" have gone in (I was told they wanted to spring clean and thus the realtor gave them keys to the place to do so) and stripped the carpets that were there and also dismantled and took down part of a cabinet. The closing was to take place the first of July. I called the realtor and asked when did spring cleaning turn into renovation. One person had asked about a possible early move-in as their lease ran out today. I told realtor no moving in, nothing else done until closing. No answer from him- no emails answered, nothing. I sent him 1 yesterday saying - oh, never mind, I will check on my property myself either Thursday or Friday morning, hope I don’t find squatters there- guess what folks, now he calls late yesterday evening wanting to know can we close today. Oh, the power of persuasion. Some people really have the nerve!

Did you ever think that perhaps she was using birth control pills, and perhaps even condoms?? You should know that neither of these methods are 100% effective, being in this field. And she is able to take responsibility for her child because she has the finances to do so..she isn't one of these women popping out child after child and living off of the government. I wish people would get off of their high horse and stop scoffing at the girl just because she ended up pregnant at 16. Sure, it might have been a mistake for her, but I don't see why everyone should come down on her when she is obviously doing the right thing. I would hate to see your daughter get pregnant at 16. But I can hear your reply now: My daughter wouldn't be having sex at 16. Or so you think.

I am going to close this query now. I have had many wonderful e-mails and help on the board which I can print (well, most) and make a little portfolio for him to get some ideas. His wife has been working double shifts nursing to make ends meet and he has been caring for the kids and doing all to make the holiday reasonably good for them. He's been doing all nighters on researching and the company is very impressed with all the research he's done on his new job and product and are going to travel here to meet him and work with him to get him started, Everyone is positive and anxious to make this new innovative product introduction a success. There are no coincidences and paying it forward has been our family's way of life and we are grateful to all who e-mailed and posted positive little hints to ease the transition, we are from a small rural area and am not familiar with that area. Thank God for good people in the Christmas Spirit. I've helped many on the boards throughout the years under another name and feel fully rewarded. I will continue to pay it forward myself and God bless you great people. We had a death in his wife's family over the holidays which we were unprepared for and travel arrangements, funeral plans, babysitting, eulogy, etc.had to be prepared, and you made our life so much easier and renewed our faith. I will close the subject now, it has been a lesson in life, that's for sure.! The end - Merry Christmas to those who passed on their holiday helping spirit. You helped us through a difficult time. I received the replies I needed. Thanks to those who understand. Obviously others haven't been there. Gift cards are not acceptable, it is a couple who are very different, as one of them wants "something to open" or a gift they "need" in which case it takes a trip to the store together for what turns into a high ticket item with no regard as to how much it costs. The other is appreciative of everything and anything. The answers I received reflect the personality differences I expected. It takes all kinds. I should know better.

On Sunday there's a big (free!) rock concert at the polo field in Golden Gate Park, honoring the 40th anniversary of the 'Summer of Love' in S.F. in 1967. (Gad - was it THAT long ago?) Lots of the original bands will be there. (Sigh....Too bad Jerry Garcia still isn't around to take part....) So, if I can find a parking-place anywhere in the same zip-code, I may cruise on over there and hobnob with all the old hippies. Should be pretty cool.
(PS: I have a young, hippy-ish friend with a totally amazing tattoo of Jerry Garcia on one of her arms! I know SHE'LL be there for sure!)
