When my son was about 8 or 9, we gave him a pool party - which, considering his birthday is January 11, was a very unusual treat for him. At the time, the local university would book their heated indoor swimming pool for parties. The only adults there were my husband and me, with about 7 or 8 kids. I suppose we were naive, but the pool party was a great success and went off without incident. If anything had happened, the individuals involved would probably have sued the university instead of us, because we certainly didn't have any money for them to take.
