It is just like drinking Coors light determines you will have a boy baby and Miller Lite a girl. sm

In Reply to: Okay, here's a question for you from a 13 year old girl (sm) - quietmoods

I have heard that actually; however, it is not true.

I did hear that too much Mountain Dew makes one impotent!

Don't know who dreams this stuff up, but I would have to say it is not true at all. My hubby only drinks Coors Light and we have a boy and a girl, go figure! LOL

Coors Light? naw just joking ;-)
I had the same problem, but just decided to go with the flow. I started working graveyard and sleeping during the day. I was able to work within family constraints and felt much better.

Don't know if that's an option for you, though. I tried Tylenol PM and other OTC sleep aids but they gave me restless leg syndrome for some reason which made matter a million times worse.

Hope you're able to find some relief.
What to buy for new baby girl? :-) sm
I do not have kids and have NO idea what new mothers might find useful.  I am looking for an online source, so I can have a box shipped to the new mom, who is a very good friend of mine.  She has not registered anywhere and is really one of those people who is fun to buy for because she really does not expect gifts, but I know she could really use some things.  I know you gals will have some great ideas!  TIA!!
Oh, I am right behind you! My oldest, my baby girl.......sm
just turned 20, she still lives at home and commutes to save money, but she is in college for teaching, I just cannot believe she is out of diapers, let alone out of high school and out of her teen years!! My son, Adam, is graduating this year, turning 18, and while he also will be going to a local college and commuting, and we are very close, along with his girlfriend, he is on his way, too!

That leaves Alex, who is 11, and although he is still a boy, I am already starting to project, because often he stays over a friend's for a sleepover, my son is out with his girl, and my daughter is out with friends or working, back to hubby and me........don't know where time went, but I have such a hard time getting out those baby pictures, seems like yesterday and I remember and want the time back. Doesn't work that way! And yes, all four of us (myself and my siblings) have been extremely close lifelong with my parents, just keep the love and communication open, have lots of get-togethers of you can. I am trying to look forward to being a grandma (although NOT TOO SOON!!). Much love to ya!
I LOVED my Baby Alive when I was a little girl! NM

Congrats to you!! Enjoy that baby girl :-) nm

Yes, a 5 month old baby girl. Makes me wonder, too, if Trim Spa had anything sm
to do with her death. I've always been very leary about taking diet pills for fear of what it does to your heart. Synthetic medications taken over long periods of time cannot be good for you, which is why I stopped taking them after Metabolife almost took my life 5 years ago. I was on it for about a month and drank a Coke with 2 pills and I literally felt like my heart was going to explode - severe, profuse sweating, palpitations, vomiting.

Anyways, just speculation, but she did use it daily, according to an interview I watched. Poor gal. No more pain for her anymore at least.
My baby girl graduated high school today!
I didn't cry a bit.  I'm saving that for August when I take her to college.  I'm so very proud of her - high honor roll all year.  What a fine young woman she's become!  Just needed to brag a bit!
Well, I guess I could lite a candle
and make everthing smell sweet.  What the heck does the smell have to do with it?  Glad it smells good, but really, so what?
I have always used Free Ram XP Lite - link inside
I have always liked this one, and it is easy to use.

Thanks Annie M, maybe I will never need a new seat. My brother was a welder, if he were alive, he would have fixed it for me. Great load has been lifted, please chair, never die on me again.
And the drinking age is....
This might have changed since my kids were growing up. When the kids and I visited Jamaica, no drinking age there and so my 15 year old son was allowed to drink, even his much younger sister could order from a bar but in the US the age was 21 and so that was what I expected out of them. I personally would hold any parents legally responsible for letting under aged kids drink at their home. I am too much of a stickler for the laws of the land.
husband's drinking
I think, from what I have read, is that he can only help himself in stopping. Has to hit bottom....after AA and being sober would be the time for your support. I think by staying with him now you will be co-inabling. He knows you are there, so he probably feels "so what, she's still here and I'm still drinking". He has to want to stop, until then he won't. Remember, it is a disease, and it can't be cured, but can be taken "one day at a time". Best of luck.
drinking for 2 years is not trying it out

Your daughter is headed down the wrong path.  If she's been smoking for 2 years, she's not trying that out anymore, either.  Apparently, both of these new habits "fit" and she's taking them home.  The fact that she says she feels relieved not having to hide it anymore is a sure sign she has no intention of quitting.  I strongly urge you to discipline her.  Children need discipline.  She may hate you for it now, but your job is to be her mother, not her friend.  Both of these habits carry dire consequence over the long-term (which I'm sure you are aware of) and both of these habits only get worse over time.

Yes, I tried alcohol and cigarettes when I was 16 (no drugs) but only a couple of times.  To this day, I still don't like the taste of beer and never drank any other alcohol until I was over 21.  When my mom/dad found out what I was doing, I was severely disciplined - grounded, spanked (yes I said spanked at 16), and was stripped of any privileges.  This definitely deterred me from participating in these things after I was allowed to resume a normal life.  This may sound harsh, but I'm thankful today my parents put an end to it when they did.  I intend to do the same with my children.  I think that's the problem with a lot of today's youth -- they're parents are too worried about being their friend, instead of doing their job as a parent.

What is Nicki drinking?
I know she is drinking the drink that David drugged, but it looks like white wine or champagne. WTH? It certainly dosesn't look like sparkling water or whatever the recovering alcoholic normally drinks.
I would not drive after drinking it!
Use in place of wine:)
drinking soda
I think that drinking soda aggravates that. Cranberry juice and herbals teas calm this sort of thing down for me.
Legal Drinking Age
Many of the states that have chosen to specifically prohibit alcohol consumption by those under age 21 have a variety of exceptions. For example,

Some States allow an exception for consumption when a family member consents and/or is present. States vary widely in terms of which relatives may consent or must be present for this exception to apply and in what circumstances the exception applies. Sometimes a reference is made simply to "family" or "family member" without further elaboration.

....

Some States allow an exception for consumption on private property. States vary in the extent of the private property exception which may extend to all private locations, private residences only, or in the home of a parent or guardian only. In some jurisdictions, the location exception is conditional on the presence and/or consent of the parent, legal guardian, or legal-age spouse.

Some States also allow exceptions for educational purposes (e.g., students in culinary schools), religious purposes (e.g., sacramental use of alcoholic beverages), or medical purposes.

Lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18

I didn't know this was going on.....

The article is long so I didn't copy all of it. See the link below:

College presidents from about 100 of the nation's best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.

The movement called the Amethyst Initiative began quietly recruiting presidents more than a year ago to provoke national debate about the drinking age.

"This is a law that is routinely evaded," said John McCardell, former president of Middlebury College in Vermont who started the organization.

"It is a law that the people at whom it is directed believe is unjust and unfair and discriminatory."

Drinking 9-12 beers a day means he is

No, sure donot see that. Was he drinking the beer
on the unicycle? LOL
Try drinking 8 glasses of water a day...(SM)
I just spoke with a friend whose husband was advised by his doctort to drink a lot of water for his back problem. He did and it worked and he feels better overall. Could be the bones in your feet are dry and building up with calcium.
My daughter was drinking heavily, she didn't know that I knew but she would
act strange and when I would try to come close to her casually, she would pull away. I waited til she fell asleep and could smell the booze on her breath.  The next day I told her I would buy lunch if she could go grab it and when she left I went in her room and found to stashed bottle of some cheap rum.  I know it sounds bad but I put some ipecac in the bottle and then waited.  I didn't put much, but it was effective. She blew chunks and blew and blew.  She thought she just got sick, but about a week later I did it again and after she got sick that time, that was the end of her drinking.  Smart girl, eh? She somehow figured out that drinking rum made her sick!  I may sound like a terrible mom, but I also don't have a drunk for daughter now either.
Red Cross told me excessive tea drinking could cause anemia.

I would have called the police right from the start, especially with underage drinking.
the mother could be brought up on charges of furnishing aldohol to minors for starters. Don't put up with it for another minute. The police will not tell who called, they just show up on the door step and take care of business.

Good luck.
EXCUSE ME! Smoking and/or drinking does not make you a bad parent! sm
I smoke. I drink margaritas when I choose too. This does not have any effect on how I raise my children. One is a straight A student. The third is an average student. Then I have my 21yo who is excelling in the nursing program and just told me tonight I was a great mom no matter how she used to argue with me, which she did and regularly. Smoking and/or drinking does not play a role in life unless you are an alcoholic. Just because someone drinks, they are not and guess what... they can still be a mom/dad and raise wonderful children.

If you want to pick something that is wrong, how about a church that teaches children to fast when they are only 11 and already underweight (not mine but a friend's). That is more wrong.
Just a light dusting. nm

The light boxes would be much
healthier than tanning booths.

Thank goodness I am too claustrophobic to use tanning booths or I probably would have when I was younger. As it is I laid out in the sun a lot when I was in my 20s, and have the age spots to show for it.
Need some light and laughter.
You know, I have been reading the gab board all weekend and into today and there have been a lot of depressing posts and help needed everywhere. I got to thinking today that lots of things are going wrong this Christmas and maybe we need to reflect on our own lives. I have felt sad and sorry for all the posts I have read.

Mine may seem trivial, but after today's soul searching and reading of the boards, it hit me hard. I am an animal lover. I have 3 indoor cats and have been taking care of a feral cat clan, helping out a local feral cat society. It is a long story but I kind of fell into it. I was taking care of 9 outdoor cats, males mostly with 1 adult female and 2 female kittens (I got them spayed). Well, tonight we found one of the feral cats was hit by a car near our driveway. It hit me hard, even though she *technically* wasn't mine. We named her Momma (original, huh) because she was the mom to all of the kittens over the years. She was a beautiful cat and a terrific mother. She never let me pet her but appreciated me and my time taking care of her kittens. I only regret not taking a picture of her. She was gray with green eyes. My husband buried her in our yard as we were the only family she really knew. My heart goes out to the strays, and it hurts me to know she never really was loved on this earth except by me. I just wanted to post this to have other people send thoughts her way and just think of a cold feral cat in need of love. I will never forget her.

I know it seems petty compared to all of the other issues brought up on this board and don't want to be a *Debbie downer*. I really did want everyone to think of her and a lonely animal in their life whom they could touch and take care of.

Thanks for reading :(
I have to agree with you. IMO, we need to keep it light.

He can light my fire! ;)
The Australian guy that sang the Doors song 'Light My Fire' is GOOD-LOOKING. Doesn't hurt that he sounds good also ;)
Sorry, I don't mean to make light of the
situation from the OP. However, people are going crazy over this and the individual being discussed is not even a part of this conversation. For all anyone knows, this had been handled and the dictator did not mention it in his dictation or has been handled since, so why are so many in an uproar????

I am not in the military, but my nephew is in the Army, and in his unit each situation is handed on an individual basis--there is not a blanket protocol for things of this nature.
Maybe they light themselves, and last for a whole year!
Maybe they blow themselves out too!
She gets a light and the TV on all night, but...
she says it is not fair that she has to be lonely in her bed and the grownups have somebody to snuggle with.
And, shall we say, light in the loafers!

Light a candle... see message
The next time you "feel" someone is with you by some strange occurence happening, light a candle. Communicate with them, actually talk out loud to them, let them know that you are thinking of them. Ask them questions. When you go to bed that night, write down the questions you may have for them and then see if you have any insightful dreams.

I absolutely love this stuff!

I just tries to keeps it light in this crazy world is all...

Ever see the movie "Clueless?"  There's this GREAT line where the father tells this boy that if he doesn't have his daughter home safe and sound at the end of the date, "I got a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anyone would miss you."

Freakin' kills me!
