It is a lot of work - my story (I'll try and make it short)

Posted By: me on 2009-05-26
In Reply to: Am I missing something? Working at marriage? - Sally

First let me say I'm happy that you have a marriage that you don't feel you need to work at it. Wish I could say the same. Been married 26 years and it has been work on my part this whole time. We knew each other 2 weeks before marrying (yes one of those crazy and spontaneous moments I didn't think ahead as to how it would affect my life), but "for better or worse" I made it 26 years with him. I have had to work at this the whole time. Learn to say I'm sorry when I don't do anything wrong, learn to accept him never saying I'm sorry because "I'm a man and it's hard for us to say we're sorry", work at keeping my mouth shut when he is going off about something, work at juggling work, paying bills, doing laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and doing it all. This has been a lot of work and I wish I could have had someone tell me how much work it was going to be - I would have thought twice. I can't see where any marriage is never work. I've given up a lot and kept my mouth shut, and worked at keeping my feelings to myself on a lot of issues (avoids the two hour arguments because I don't feel the same exact way as he does on certain issues). I've worked at not getting angry at him, and I'm still working at it.

So I am happy for you, but there are us out there that do have to work a lot in our marriages (or at least at keeping our sanity).

okay - found it - short story
this year it is too late.  They are in the house for the winter and laying next year's crop in your attic - supposed to spray outside the house eaves and foundation included in the fall to prevent any new ones.
Short story about ATVs

A woman I know was riding one with her 2 y/o grandson.  She was turning on the 4-wheeler when it kicked into high gear and wouldn't slow down.  They were heading right for a tree. Basically she had to jump off while holding onto her 2 y/o grandson. The 4-wheeler then ran into a tree and did some major damage.  Thankfully, no one was hurt and she did the right thing by jumping, but still.  They found out that whoever had put the 4-wheeler together before they bought it had done something wrong and when she turned it caused a wire to do something weird and it made it go fast and wouldn't brake.  I can't remember exactly what they said happened, but if she hadn't jumped, she would have run right into a tree at full speed with her 2 y/o grandson.

Also, there was a young kid....about 5 or 6....who was killed about a month ago on an ATV.  His older brother was driving and something happened and the kid hit his head and was killed.  Had he had a helmet on, he probably would have lived.

When my stepson has a friend over, we always ask the parent's permission before we allow them to ride our 4-wheelers and we always make sure they have on a helmet.  Asking permission is just common courtesy.

I like Cat's idea. Or make your visit short by showing up only

I'll tell you my story sm
My mom had polio in the great epidemic of the summer of 1952. She is still living, very ill with post polio syndrome and has been in a wheelchair for over 50 years. When she had polio, her parents were told she would never be able to conceive a child...

When she was 16, she and my dad got into the backseat of his Chevy and made me with "Ally OOP" playing on the turn table He kept on the passenger side floor. He was only 18 and not really very responsible, but then no one believed my mom could have kids. Sure enough, she turned up pregnant. This was 1959, and she was a freshman in high school, having missed a year while having polio.

Her mom was scared and had somehow tricked my mother into a specimen for the rabbit test, and my mother didn't understand she was pregnant. She had merely mentioned to her mom that her period sure was late. She was very innocent and not well informed, but then again no one felt they needed to inform of these things! The doctor told my grandmother that he would give my mom an abortion because of the polio and not being able to walk, and that it would not be a problem.

Gramma went to my dad and told him he had gotten my mother pregnant and that my gramma was going to schedule an abortion for my mother. Know what my dad said? NO WAY you are going to go and murder MY child!!! Gramma asked him what he intended to do and he said he wanted to marry my mother and raise their baby. Mom's mom called dad's mom who were best friends in those days and told her what was going on. Between the 2 of them, they came up with gas money and a car to send my parents to Iowa to get married with my great-grandparents for witnesses.

I was raised by children, one of them handicapped and not terribly able in some ways. Dad never could behave himself and keep a job more than a year at a time. Mom didn't even have a diploma, so she ironed by the hour in the humid heat of Kansas City for money to be sure we had shoes and coats, things she could not sew at home. One way and another, these two people kept a roof over our heads and food in front of me, and later my younger brother too.

Our family didn't have the fun in dysFUNctional. We are 4 very different people. My parents were married for 30 years before they divorced and they have issues with each other even now, 20 years after they split. It is ugly...but it doesn't diminish the fact that they got 2 of us raised. My brother and I are accomplished, talented and responsible people. We are successes and part of that is back to our parents.

My mom, it has to be said, went and got her GED when I was 8. She went on to junior college to learn a career a handicapped woman could do, like be a secretary. She ended up with an AA in chemistry, then a BA in Human Resources and an MA in Management of Human Resources and worked for the state in education administration. She had been kicked out of high school for being PG and married...told her she was a bad influence on the other girls. She went from a teen mom to having a Master's degree.

Perfection? Not by a long shot and you know, it didn't have to be perfect. Good enough? You betcha and then some. I am proud of my parents.
Work in short bursts. Get up and do some exercise, even jumping jacks. Throw some wash in. Stay

Good morning ya'll! I have a story to share and need your help!! sm

A good friend of mine, Kathryn Bryant, from Columbus, GA, entered a “wish” contest sponsored by Pantene. She has been chosen as a runner up and was flown to California for a personal interview. Her wish is to create a program for disabled children that helps them feel accepted. Whether she wins or not is up to us because it’s based on the people’s choice. Pantene is one of the sponsors of the People’s Choice Awards and has posted Kathryn’s and two other ladies wishes on the www.pcavote.com website. Please use this link to go to the home page to view her video and watch her "Wish." And then VOTE FOR HER,PLEASE!

You will see the Pantene banner ad at the top of the page. Click on “pick the winning wish” and you will see her there.

As a friend of Kathryn, I felt compelled to get the word out on this. If you could help in any way,I would greatly appreciate it.  She needs our votes.  The kids need our votes!

OOh I hope she wins!

My dad said he actually did that frozen-tongue thing, too, on an axe, when he was a very young boy. He'd have LOVED this movie.
It could also just be a story to make the move look bad.

I'll make it around 5. :)

I'll sometimes call him at work and tell him

that some sexy (cough) chick is waiting at his house looking for some lovin.....  Really gets him going!  I make sure I have something fun on, a towel works if you are in a pinch, lipstick, music, candles.  Yep, works every time!  I've even met him outside with just a coat and heels and flashed him in the driveway.

Takes some thought sometimes but playing these types of silly games is worth it.

maybe a dose of Pam 'll make em

You'll hardly make any money

The main problem, which made me get out, is that you'll have people that won't pay when you give them the merchandise.  Then, if they want to return something, you pay to send it back to avon to get credit which cuts into your profit.

You have to pay for the mags, bags, order forms, etc.  It's not really a profitable business and will cost you to make money.

I still buy Avon and love it, but never again will I try and slling it, that's for sure.  I got burnt too many times having to chase money down and then get an attitude from the buyer.

If you do this, make sure you get the money up front!  LOL

I'll call the other kid's parent, make them pay the bill
One would assume your daughter thought the girl was just making a quick call. It is irresponsible of the other person to text on your daughters phone. I'm all for your daughter being responsible but it seems that she was totally taken advantage of and that just isn't fair.
short arms, short-term memory loss...
I too suffer from Short Arm Syndrome. Add to that the short-term memory loss that middle-age brings and I have now discovered I need to lasso the &*%$ reading glasses around my neck or my day will be spent wandering in circles asking the dog where my glasses are.

I have two pairs, per advice of doctor. I do not wear glasses all the time, so he thought I was not ready for bifocals. My son gave me a wonderful eyeglass case for Christmas that is big enough to hold both pairs should I ever venture out of the house amongst the living.

I did manage to find some "sporty" looking around-the-neck-eye glass holder thingies - what DO you call those things? I'd use twine before getting those multicolored beaded ones. I have a neon coral one and an emerald green one. Too bad I can't find the former, I can't remember where I put it.
Our families are important to all of us, but we make it work sm
We fit it all in.  Family, food, fun, and a litte work.  It is not a really big hardship for most MTs.
I don't know how to make the avatar thing work.... :(
:(
make sure you use a "metal" lice comb, not a plastic one as they don't work well. nm

I make around $50,000 but I work 7 days a week and long days, although I'm not a fast typer eithe
I think even if your fast, you'd still have to work more than 40 hours a week to make that but I could be wrong.
thanks! :) I'll see if he'll ask some female friends SM

Thank you everyone!  It has been great reading all of your responses!  Goodnight!!  "See" you all tomorrow!

Yes - does not work! Hoax if you ask me. MetaboLife doesn't work either.
The only thing that works for me is exercise and eating correctly! No quick fix, unfortunately.
Definitely short ones
I love in Fridays when my doc does all his patients that were tested for allergies that week.
Short. Not in the least bit Jewish.

hopefully this will be short-lived
I'd still send pictures, etc., especially to your grandparents. Good luck!
My hair is very short right now.
Short layers and all I have to do is spray a little hairspray on it and run my fingers through it and I'm good to go.  It has gotten much thicker over the years and hair color has helped with that too.  I hate that I have to color my hair, though.  I started going gray almost 20 years ago and I just turned 40.    At some point, I will bite the bullet and let the color grow out, but haven't gotten there yet.  Not ready to be totally gray.
My hair is short
When it starts to get even a little long, I have to go out and get it cut. I don't like the way my hair or the way I look when it gets too long. I just put some gel in it and go. The only thing I don't like is that it can get dry in the sun. I've been dying my hair for about five years or so (46 now). I won't let it go gray, but that's just me. My daughter is only 4 so I feel I would look like her grandmother if I let it go gray.
My 8 y/o is a size 5, but she's SHORT...
for her age! I really hope she grows into her feet soon, looks like she has clown feet :) She's only 4 ft 3 in., but has some of the biggest feet for her age.
I have only seen short segments
as I am flipping through channels and man, is that show filthy!  Is the story line that good?
Long and short of it -
While I can appreciate his desire to stop spending so much time in his car, I think the solution he is suggesting would only be very good in the short term at the most. The reality is you all probably need to sell your house and move closer to his job.
I always wanted to be short in HS, like
most of our little cheerleaders were. Now I see my height as an advantage, and i have to admit that even my freakishly long arms do come in handy. Funny how priorities change ...
My dad short-tempered and
was always yelling and pounding tables and children about the dumbest things, and mom was cold, bored and depressed, so it's hard to say.

It's so hard to shop for Mother's & Father's Day cards!
for short people
why is it the one item i need is on the very top shelf so far back i cannot reach it?

Life is too short
Unfortunately, life is actually way too long to be very, very poor, old and alone, and if you can't get along with anyone when you are young, you are not going to be that hot of a catch at the nursing home.
my short list
Milk
Liver
Okra
Tofu
Indian food
Thai food
Sushi

my short list sm
Lima beans
soft-cooked eggs (where the yolks are too runny and the whites aren't quite firm - and forget any with the shell accidentally left in)
fishy-tasting fish
Chicken/turkey liver (beef and deer is okay)
raw onions
big gobs of mayonnaise (a little in salad is okay)
tuna without celery.

I did it about 3 years ago for a short while.

I quit because it was too much of a hassle.  I had to buy the magazines, brochures, samples every 2 weeks plus get orders in every 2 weeks, plus I had to deliver with baby in tow, but you could have them pick their orders up at your house but with so many reps in this area, I had to be competitive.    My friend I buy Avon from was having problems the company not sending the right orders, getting things mixed up etc etc.  It is just a mess for her so she dropped it.

The pro side of it was that when I sold Avon I got pretty good bargains being a rep.  They send a What's New brochure every 2 weeks.  There are people here that order merchandise and open their own store and sell it that way.  I don't know if they are making profit or not.   I do think the real money is in recruiting people to sell like other MLMs.  It really doesn't make sense to me to do things that way though.  It would be like having a shoe store selling Nike's on every corner.  Just doesn't make sense.

If you are going to be in the house such a short time sm
You will build up almost NO equity with a 40-year mortgage, and may have to sell it at a loss. Something to consider....
Life is short. Who knows what could happen? Go for it! NM

Customers need to be blind men who like short fat

OMG Yes!!!!! It's a conspiracy against short people!

I get so aggravated!  And then it never fails you go looking for someone who can help you or has a ladder and no one is EVER working on the floor!  At Wal-Mart, I've grabbed one of those ladders they have hanging on posts throughout the store and climbed up myself to get something of the top shelf.  THEN an employee appears and tells me I can't do that because it's a liability to the store.  I said, "then you need to be out here doing you job so I don't have to!"

Man, being short sucks!

Life is too short to be married
to someone I am unhappy with and especially, not in love with. I would not cheat but would be honest about my feelings and get out of the marriage. Before acting on anything, I would make sure I was divorced as should he. People will get hurt unfortunately, but I could never stay in a marriage knowing I loved someone else or I was unhappy. Life is too short and goes by too quickly. I want no regrets.

People will not like this answer but it's how I feel.
but short on compassion and caring.
x
Life is short and you only get one go-round.
Is this what you wanted out of life? No marriage is perfect, but being faithful is a basic requirement, not to mention the deadly diseases out there. That's all I'll say other than to add, you're much stronger than I am & I hope it all works out for you & you find happiness & peace, one way or the other.
I bite my nails, so I get them done short..
they are really not too long, but look better than when I have chewed them all off. Terrible habit, I know, but a very difficult one to break. I quit smoking and didn't really think it was that hard, but I just cannot stop chewing my nails!
cute short clip
Upon looking up dysphagia today (yes I know that's pretty simple, but I always have brain freeze with phagia and phasia (especially when they mean phagia but pronounce it with the "s" sound).

Anyway, I came across this cute little film short. It's 16 minutes long but was cute and wanted to share it.

Not to mention I love the actor Stephen Rea.

But I'm short, stocky, and heavyset, so....sm
It's all relative. And my legs are too thick to know whether I'm bowlegged or not. :D :D

In my younger days, I would have sold my two front teeth to have a figure approximating Michelle's. To be slender and willowy, any height, was my wildest fantasy. These days, I'm just glad to be able to walk, run, and jump, forget about the looks part....:D
At that rate, I could make in a week what I make

19-weeks pregnant, short femur
Thanks for the thoughts.. I will update on Tuesday
Two months is quite a short amount of time....
You need to take your time and keep YOUR options open! You may meet Mr. Right while you're seeing this guy. In two months, you probably don't even know his favorite color yet. Don't rush these things. If he is the one, he will figure it out and not want to see anyone else. Good luck! I hope this works out for you.
Me either...31 years now! Life's too short to be uncomfy!
