It's all about the retainer!

In Reply to: has anybody ever been unhappy with the way - their child's orthodontic work turned out?

You didn't mention how old your son is. My son was 13 when his braces went on. He had four teeth pulled before that, as well. Two teeth were baby teeth with no permanent teeth behind them, and the other two were removed for the sake of symmetry and space. He wore his braces for 13 months. When they first came off, it was a little strange, and his teeth did seem pushed forward. But he faithfully continues to wear his retainer, and as he's grown, the teeth look beautiful and naturally placed. His orthodontist stresses the importance of wearing the retainer. It's especially important with boys, because they continue to grow into their 20's, and their jaws will continue to widen. My son wore his retainer all the time for one year. Now he only wears it to sleep. He's almost 19 and still wears it, and the orthodontist wants him to wear it until he's 21. My son says that if he skips a few days, he can definitely feel the difference when he puts the retainer back in. And it's true, he continues to grow. He was only 5-feet, 6-inches when he had his braces on. Today he's 6-feet, 5-inches!

So retainer, retainer, retainer! It's important.

and please do. a family member had braces in elementary school and they came out beautiful. somewhere after marriage, kids, she stopped wearing the retainer. she is not in her 40's and her teeth shifted back to almost day one.

wear the retainer while sleeping - it's no biggie compared to the waste of time and money and beautiful smiles.
