on very easy machines. It's actually fun and everyone is friendly.
Only problem is, you don't really lose a lot of weight, if that's your goal, and, at least where I live, it costs $40 a month. What with rate of pay dropping, I had to quit.
If you don't need to lose a great deal of weight and just want to stay in shape, it really is good.

If someone does not want to do something blaming the dog or you, the giver of the dog, is ridiculous. I am thinking she need to hire some help. Hire a dog walker for every single day twice daily walks. Lots of people need jobs. Obedience boarding for a month. Truthfully, she should probably turn the dog back in and get a ferret, they sleep 22 hours a day are playfully entertaining two hours a day and use a cat box. Perfect pet for the lazy.

I did this, but it did not work, I did that, but it did not work. The reason it did not work is because your dad has no where else to go, has no way of supporting himself, has no money, has no emotional skills whatsoever, needs your mother to help him survive for better or for worse. You will not be able to train him to leave you alone, because he cannot take care of himself and seems very unwilling to learn how. He already has been trained by your mother to behave this way, you can't fix it.
While I was still training, I had some expansions set up
in Word. One was BE for barium enema. At that time, the whole family used the same computer and my son had a report to type. I never thought to turn off the auto correct for him and as I was reading over his paper, the words barium enema jumped out at me. What was funny was it was a report on torture in the middle ages and I remember thinking, well that would be torture. He never retyped the paper! He turned it in with barium enema and never told me what grade he got!
That could have been me re: potty training
My daughter is almost 3-1/2 and she's doing everything your daughter is doing and I'm at my wits end. She can't get into preschool until she's potty trained (I wanted her to go a couple hours a day for two day). I've tried absolutely everything. Taking things away, bribes, offering her incentives (if you use the potty like a big girl we'll redo your room), and on and on, and nothing. I felt like I was the only one who was having these issues. I've tried no pullups also. Nothing works. She'll sit on the potty and as soon as she gets off she'll pee on the floor. She's just very stubborn. You can tell she knows what she's supposed to do, she just doesn't "want to" (her words). (Sorry so long).
I find it best to take a 15-20 minute nap....sm
when I find myself super-sleepy during the day. It's just enough to perk me back up and works better than caffeine or cold water.
I take a 20 minute nap and that helps when I get like this.

Can I vent for just a minute?
My mother-in-law called last night to say that we have some relatives in town for the weekend. They are staying with a relative that is not related to my husband's family. She asked if we would like to get together Sat. evening and order pizza. This is what we do every time family visits, unless I offer to cook. My MIL tells everyone who listens " I love to cook, I just don't have anyone to cook for." My wonderful FIL passed away 16yrs ago. My MIL works Mon.-Thurs. in a family owned business that she and my husband run. The business is closed on the weekends. My sister-in-law is a school teacher so she is out of school right now. I am not asking for a huge meal, but I know we could throw together something nice but easy quickly. BTW, for Easter dinner we are going to Outback. I can't have everyone here becuase we just pulled up all our carpets to put down hardwood floors, so most of our furniture is in the garage. I did suggest to my MIL that we do KFC since we always do pizza. Her response "I don't like mashed potatoes." Just felt like venting a little bit ( I don't say anything negative about my MIL to my hubby) mainly becuase she is a very good MIL and a wonderful grandmother. (Sigh) I feel better now.

This bride is 65, second wedding, and I assume wearing white? I wonder. Also I believe etiquette says a bridal shower is not proper for a second wedding and probably especially not for a couple in their 60s ! which poster mentioned. Also, etiquette says the bride and groom or family should pay to put the guests up at the hotel if they have to come from out of town which poster also mentioned.
This old gal is obviously not Miss Manners, herself.

Such a minute amount but what I was
saying anyone who has a huge amount on their card really cannot stand to take a chance with not paying on time- I am sure would not have a problem having it written off- they love me because 2nd time I have paid off totally and always on time (not this small amount though) and the last time over 10 thou paid off. I will probably call them anyway.
potty training
With both my children, 1 boy and 1 girl, we used stickes and once they had an entire line full they got a small prize. With my son he still slept in pull-ups and he always woke up wet and I figured out it was becuase he knew it was okay. Put him in underware and that stopped almost immediately. I was determined to train my daughter before we went to Disney World....big mistake. she was trained but when she had to go there was no waiting, even if we had stood in line for a ride for 45 minutes we had skip the ride and go straight to the restroom. Plus, didn't want her sitting on the potty...boy did I learn my lesson.
I usually use about 1/2 bag if minute rice..sm
but this is the first time I have used the recipe on the dry onion soup box!! It just sounded so good that I thought I would give it a try and just add the rice since my hubby likes rice in his meatloaf. Hope it comes out okay!!
How about crate training?
I have 3 dobies that I crate when they can't be trusted to obey the rules.
Potty training
I have a boy and a girl, I bribed them both! It works. My daughter loves jelly beans so we got a small gumball machine and filled it with jelly beans. When she would go in the toilet, she got to turn the handle and get her treat. My son did not care about candy, so we used matchbox cars with him (for #2). I guess bribe her with something she REALLY likes. Dollar store toys work well too! Good luck.

As of 1 minute ago, here's what they agreed on
If you make at least 3000 but don't pay taxes, you'll get 300. If you pay taxes, you'll get 600. Plus, you get an additional 300 per child. Each couple that pays taxes will, therefore, get 1200, plus 300 per kid, as long as they make under 150,000.

Excuse me, but my son just turned 8 and this girl is almost 8. I have since found out that she did this to another boy last year (not as hard) and my son also said she will walk up to him and hyperextend his finger back and twist them, as well as flicking him with her pencil when she gets mad. I know of yet another student that had problems with her last year (an older boy) who felt bullied by her.
To me it just seems there is a pattern here that is only getting worse. It could have been his eye. Would you say it was no big deal then?? Where is she getting this behavior from?
And yes, I think she needs special help in the classroom if she has behavioral issues. This is way different than kids fighting over a ball on the playground. This is a private Catholic school and they don't have the funding for extra programs for behavioral and special needs. In addition, their code of conduct that they recite everyday after prayer and the pledge of allegiance is that they will "uphold the sanctuary for themselves and others."
Are you cage training her?
If so, put her in her cage when she gets too rambunctious (sp?). Our new puppy is also about 8 or 9 months old, and she knows the meaning of "NO" and "STOP BITING".
Also, have you tried spraying her with water? it works on most dogs and cats.

My cat used to have a thing with begging at the fridge. It got so bad she would jump in there. Once she got trapped in there for quite awhile and I did not realize it. We cured her by dribbling a couple of water drops on her head whenever she begged.

My family was borderline poverty striken although I was not aware of it. My grandmother used to pay our house note and my aunt came in and picked up bills that were due and paid those. I remember my grandmother buying us groceries. My mother never had what you could consider a really good job. No drugs, no alcohol, nothing like that but not enough to really support a family, not much help from my father (although he did pay child support). Being as only 2 children, mother was able to make each feel loved and wanted. My mother's kids were not born back to back so bonding was able to be in force. This mother is talking about doing illegal things and hopefully the courts will step in about the children. I do not think she has the basic common sense to take care of this brood. All she thought about were her needs, not the needs of all these other children. She had enough at home before she started. I read she had to pay $100,000 for the invitro. That could have bought an addition on the home so they could put in more bedrooms for all these extra mouths to feed.

Start inching the pads closer and closer to the door, and eventually place the pads outside so she figures out that outside is where she really needs to be.
The piddling all the time when walking is marking territory - even in girl dogs. She's finding other scents and peeing over them to leave her own scent on it. If you have her spayed I think you'll find that happens less often.
When she has accidents in the house, is there a pattern to the timing of it? Her bladder is small enough that she needs to be either by a pad or taken outside every couple of hours. Do you have an area in the house that you can sort of confine her with baby gates or some such so the carpets are not an issue? Maybe keep her in the kitchen with lots of beds and cushions that are washable until she is old enough to have a little bit better control.

If you do not believe in rewarding good behavior with a tiny treat, then stop reading here. We started on very short walks first. When Shadow would pull on the leash, I would say no, stopped abruptly at the same time, then made him sit before starting again. If he walked without pulling, I would give praise and slip him a treat while walking--do not stop walking. It took a lot of patience, but he now stays close by without a leash (well, most of the time). Good luck.

Crate training is great when done right....sm
I had my dog completely potty trained before she was 12 weeks ago by using a crate and have known others to have the same success. The secret is this. Keep the puppy in the crate except for the times you take him outside to pee or to play with him. He'll learn that the crate is home and he'll not want to pee/dribble/poop etc. in it. Be sure you're taking him out every 2-3 hours during the day so he builds confidence that you'll take him out to go do his "business" then start weaning him back from there. Be sure to praise him each time he does his "business" outside and when you bring him back in, put him in his crate.
If the problem continues then have the vet check him to make sure there's not a problem with his system. More than likely it's just puppy excitedness!
Good luck with your new puppy. Also when he gets to the stage that he wants to eat your house up buy some bitter apple and spray it on your furniture. It has a scent in it that dogs don't like but you don't smell it. It also works in the yard if he starts digging.

Please do not and I will repeat that DO NOT potty train your puppy using the crate method unless you do not work at home and will not be home for 8-10 hours every single day. I have had many dogs in my life and crate training is crate training and potty training is potty training. Yes, you want the pup to know that the crate is his safe place and yes if you cannot keep an eye on him you will want to put him there but first think about these questions....after he goes outside and pees do you let him have a drink? Do you play with him thereby making hime excited? Either of these things will cause a pup to go pee again even though they just went. It could also be submissive peeing and if you dont make a big deal about it, he should out grow it; however, if you check for drinking and playing and this does not seem to be submissive then the next time you go to the vet mention it to them. My friend's pup did this until she was fixed and the vet had a reason why it happened(even did it in her sleep) and she did out grow it and is much better.
And there is no real time table for saying a pup should be totally housebroken and accident free. I always say within the first six months, it is your fault and up until a year, an accident can happen. Yes, btw, I have had pups that were trained within 6 weeks or less of coming home; however, I did have a boxer that honestly took six months before she really got the idea. Also I suggest bells on a string/yarn etc and hung from the door knob and when we ask them if they have to go potty or you are taking them out, stop and jingle the bells and say something about going potty. I and my friends have used this method and it seems to help them get the hint too about the door being the way to get to go potty.

I'm a grandma. My daughter toilet trained herself at 18 months. Now her daughter is 3 and is potty trained as far as #1, but will only go #2 in a diaper. She will cry until daughter puts diaper on her and then she goes to the bathroom in diaper. I suggested she not change diaper immediatly, since she is very tidy and maybe will not like wearing dirty diaper. That is the only time she wears one.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Of course not. I guess I should have been more blunt about saying that you should not confine a pup to a crate and call it potty training or be foolish enough to say that by locking it in a crate that it is potty trained.

I just got a new puppy yesterday. It was a stray that someone put up on craig's list. It looks as though she was abused by her previous owner because she is so shy and scared around my husband (she does not like men), but is not that way with me. In fact, she follows me around all day long. I can't even go to the bathroom! lol She is peeing everywhere. What are your tips on potty training a dog. I do not want to scold her because she is already very shy and afraid. And what about tips on when I am trying to work. If I do not give her attention for a short while, she starts to whine. It is like having a baby here. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

You've only had her a week, and you expect her to be housetrained already? And you're already thinking about giving her up because she isn't? WOW!
Boy are you in for a surprise - if you keep her, that is, which at this point I'm not sure is the best thing for her, unless you're willing to adjust your expectations and do a bit of a 'crash course' in puppies/dogs. And please be honest with yourself, because if you don't keep her, it's much easier to find her a home while she's still young.
First of all, it's totally unrealistic to expect no 'accidents' from such a young puppy. She is *very* young. In fact, it sounds like she's doing remarkably well for being so young!
It isn't *physiologically* possible for a puppy to be 100% pottytrained until about... 4 months of age, if I remember correctly. They don't have the muscle control to hold it more than... 4 hours, I think it is? (I'm going by memory, so I'll have to look that up.)
So, my next question is, how long does she have to stay in the crate w/o a potty break? Because it is extremely unusual for dogs to soil their living area - unless they either have no choice and can't physically hold it anymore, (or if they came from a puppy mill/pet store where they had no other choice but to go in their cage and so get in that habit), OR if her crate is so large that she can go in one section and then go off to another section and be away from it. (If that's the case, you can use a crate divider.)
But as young as she is, she probably just can't hold it for more than a couple hours at a time. I had a great site for potty training stuff. Let me find it and post again later. It does s/l you're doing everything else right as far as keeping her on a regular schedule. For now, I'd suggest that she commes out of the crate for a potty break at least every 2 hours, or immediately if you see her start to sniff around in her crate or otherwise act like she's going to go in her crate.
BTW, she should have stayed with her mother and littermates until *at least* 8 weeks of age, which tells me you didn't get her from a reputable breeder if they let her go so young. That's a shame, because a reputable breeder would be available to mentor you and answer any and all questions you might have along the way (for life), like about crating and pottytraining. A rep. breeder would have also asked you a lot of questions and would not have let you have one of their pups if it would not be the right breed for you and your family, or if you're maybe just not cut out to be dog owners. (That kind of screening saves everybody a lot of heartache, rather than getting the puppy and then not keeping it, having to find it a new home, etc.) But that's neither here nor there at this point. I just always recommend a reputable breeder, rescue, or a shelter. It makes me angry that people will sell a puppy to someone and then just "leave them hanging" so to speak, because it's the puppy that suffers. Okay, enough of my ranting.

one of my cats who is averse to using her litterbox. In the meantime, my other cat decided this would do very nicely as her own, personal little 'condo', so she took it over. She likes it because everything is right there: Food, bed, water, & litterbox. Not to mention a great view of my birdbath outside! ;)

nada? No money in a card either? I can't believe what I am reading. LOL.
Here is how it works.. for a shower they usually want a gift off the registry which just about everyone has these days. If not registered then about a 30-50 dollar gift depending on how close you are or gift card, etc.
And for weddings, wrapped gifts are always tacky mostly because they are awkward, much harder for the bride and groom to take care of at/after the wedding (have someone collect the gifts and deliver later?, collect themselves which is tacky, receive yet another item they don't need and/or want), and so ALL brides and grooms expect MONEY.
Weddings are very expensive. Mine was over 10000 a while back and if all 60 or so couples brought me a "gift" I would have been VERY upset. Sorry but it's true.
I think most people who bring gifts are the ones who don't want to spend much or don't want people to know what they spent but that's just my opinion. Otherwise, why wouldn't they just put the money in a card and give them something they can really use?
Even if you don't have much money, 25.00 is better than more crystal champagne glasses or yet another picture frame that so doesn't match the decor.

I have 2 girls and they were so easy to train (no joke, one day tops). My son on the other hand, well, I'm afraid I will have to go to school to change him  We bought him a potty chair and he is terrified of it. He just turned two, but when my girls were his age they were already trained. I've always heard boys were harder to train....any help would be appreciated!!
Question about potty training puppies...
Please no one poke fun at my question... I have never potty trained a puppy before and have a few questions. I have a 12 week old Corgi boy named Cody.
How long does it take to potty train a dog. Is it 6 months or longer or should he have the idea down for the most part by age 3 months?
The one thing that I do not understand is why after I take him outside, he will go pee (it seems like he is completely emptying his bladder), I will praise right away, then we go back inside and 5 minutes later he dribbles on the carpet. I'm sure this is normal, but I am not sure what to do about it. Should I put him back in his pet crate immediately?
I know there are a lot of dog experts on this board... I appreciate any advice you can give.

Regardless of what is or is not wrong with the child, that comment from the teacher is totally uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. A teacher should know better, period, end of discussion. And I agree with tnmt, ask for a meeting with the principle and teacher.

our kids have a 2 minute walk from school and
they have already been heckled by meaner kids, they even threw a beer bottle at my 5 year old. I stood behind a fence one day and stepped out in front of him just as he was rounding the corner and told him that if he ever even so much as talked to my kids again I would follow him home and tell his parents exactly what was going on. I told him that I would also talk to the principal, who I know on a first-name basis as i am VP of the PTO. I put the fear of God in that child but I still do not trust him or his little band of siblings he walks with. I almost fear other children more than I do strangers!
The 5-minute Chocolate Cake for 1 Person
The person who sent me this says it really works.
5-MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (microwave-safe)
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired. EAT!

...to conceive a child, unless you're the Virgin Mary 2000 years or so ago. Calling the young woman a sl*t, a very shaming label, just clouds the issue. And yes, adoption is a viable option if the girl and her parents are neither willing nor able to keep the baby, financially and emotionally. But it has to be their choice. I hate abortion, but that's not what we're talking about.....anyhow, shaming labels don't help the discussion. I'm too old to even remember having the natural and normal desires of youth, LOL, but these things happen. Even back in my day, some young couples, as we put it, "had to get married."

Repeat after me ... Crate training is a GOOD thing!
Invest in a good crate and use it.
The crate will cost you less than the destruction in the long run. It takes a while for the dogs to get use to it but once they are they are much happier for it.
My Rotts each have their own crates and when we have company or if they just want their own space they will go to their crate and chew on their KONG or a pigear.
Whenever I am going to be gone for any length of time I put up my Rotts and when people come to visit and ESPECIALLY when I have other folks children in my house. Mine dont see it as punishment at all and have gotten to where at night they sleep in their crates with the doors open. Although I do have to say they prefer to have Animal planet showing on their TV in their room when I am gone for any length of time.
