In my school district they have a "schools of choice" program.

The kicker?? Your school has to participate. Our new Supe took it upon himself to unilaterally disembowel the "schools of choice" program. Our school district is not as bad as Detroit, but I think it is getting there.

He stated "the only way anybody is going to get out of my school district is to move." And of course with the housing market the way it is, who can afford to move?

We cannot afford to send our son to a private school either. And even if we did participate with Schools of Choice, you are responsible for your own ransportation.

So, the only other choice is a charter school, but then you have the same problem - you must provide your own transportation.

PS I live on the west side of Michigan.

I hope you get better results from your school district
Good luck with your situation. Why some people are allowed to teach is beyond me. My best friend's son is what they call an "inclusion" child in his classroom. His aide who he works with every day was accused and it was "found" that she grabbed him by the arm and twisted it after he raised his hand to tell he had had just lost a tooth, and she's still teaching there in the same classroom. Nothing at all was done and she took it all the way to the school board. All they told her was she was dealt with appropriately.
School district issues -- this is long

A couple of years ago, we got a new superintendent for our school district.  He apparently was dismissed from his previous job due to conflicts (he's rumored to have gotten 2 teachers pregnant in his previous school district).  He's made a lot of changes to our school district that I don't agree with.  I must admit that I am resistant to change; I kind of feel like "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

He started out by saying we needed to reduce expenses.  First, he made children go to the school closest to their home/babysitter.  I was okay with this.  I agreed with this, unless the parents were willing to transport their kids to the school they wanted their children at.  Secondly, he changed the bussing schedule, making all kids K-12 ride together, thereby starting the elementary schools an hour earlier (from 9 to 8 a.m. start time).  My kindergartener has to get up 6:00 a.m. to be on the bus by 7:00 for a 45-minute bus ride.  I can't tell you the language my kids have learned.  My second grader came home the first week of this new schedule and asked me what a virgin was.  While implementing this, he then went on to purchase $10,000 worth of mahogany office furniture for himself.

We are also doing renovations on our high school.  Ours is a junior/senior high school (grades 7 through 12).  They are now making it punishable if 7-8 graders cross over to the 9-12 graders side.  Okay, so why do you not want 7-8 graders mixing with the 9-12 graders, but yet it's okay to put them on all the same bus together with the elementary kids?  It doesn't make sense.

Now, we're hearing that we don't have enough teachers at the 1 school for the upcoming 5th or 6th grade class, so they're going to bus our kids to the other elementary school in our district to accommodate this.  This will cause some parents to have 2 elementary kids in different schools.  It also goes against the first change he made (see above).

We've also been told by some of the school district employees that the schedule for next year has one scheduled 2-hour delay per month to give the teachers extra planning time.  It also has the kids off every Friday in May, and they're going a week later in the summer to make it up.  Additionally, our kids are now being given 2 weeks for Christmas vacation and 1 full week for Easter/spring break, and the makeup is being tacked to the end of the year.  I should mention that we are in the NE part of the country, but we do have some warm days in June and not all classrooms have air conditioners (only the rooms where the teacher supplied it).

Okay, so my question is how do I voice my opinion about some of these issues that I don't agree with.  It seems the last part about the scheduling was done behind closed doors.  I know of others in the community who voiced their opinions at the school board meetings, but to no avail.  Is there an advocate who can help to mediate some of these issues.  My biggest issue has been the bussing of all kids together and starting the elementary kids so early.  My K'er says he falls asleep in class some days, and he goes to bed at 8:00, and now I've started to drive them to school so they don't have to get up until 7:00, which is still a little early but definitely better.  Before this guy came on, the elementary schools started at 9:00 and they didn't have to get up until 8:00, which was easily managable.

I'm guessing I'm probably in the dark ages on some of these issues.  I'm sure there are schools everywhere that get a week off for Spring Break and 2 weeks off for Christmas and every Friday off in May and a 2-hour delay per month, but how do working parents deal with this?  I'm thankful that this isn't an issue for me, but it does cut into the kids' summer vacation.

In our school district you can go to any school that you want
but you actually have to pay if you don't live in the District. The private schools here are outrageously priced. You could almost send your child to a community college for the amount they charge.
Not by choice earlier in life, but now no kids by choice
When I was young we desperately wanted kids. We tried for years. (I never took birth control ever, and we even took fertility drugs and planned for multiple kids, just never worked out). Then went through a period of years where husband didn't want them but I did, then years where husband wanted them but I didn't, then about 15 years ago we both decided we didn't want them. We didn't even know what we wanted in life for ourselves and we figured if we couldn't figure out what we wanted why in the world would we bring kids into the world. Now I'm thankful we never did have kids and hope that we never do (I'm 52 with only one ovary - had ectopic pregnancy a few years back), but chances are I do not think we will ever have kids. Now I just cannot tolerate the kids. The little ones are very cute and we love hearing them play in our neighborhood. Some of the things they say are the funniest, but once they get to a certain age it seems like something in them transforms. When they lose the innocence of youth and start becoming little bullies talking back to their parents with their snotty attitudes we just always say, if he was my kid he'd never see the light of day again. Nothing drives me more insane to see the way some of these kids talk to their parents.

But now a days with all the bad going on in the country (around the world) and the country heading for disaster, and if the Mayan calendar is correct and in 2012 we see some major earth changes and the possibilities of civilizations being wiped out, who would want to put their kids through that.

So, I just say - I'm free of kids and loving it!
You have to live in the district
You cannot pick a public school. When we switched to public we had to show proof of address. When we lived on base I felt the same way. I sent my kids to private. The public school where we live now is great
Again, I transferred in California to a different district...
and it did not cost anything. I just had to catch the bus at an existing stop for the school I transferred to, which was actually 76 miles from my house, but the bus stop was only 11.
Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.

I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.

Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
Milford Plaza is in the theater district,
great location, and one of the cheaper (for NYC) nicer hotels but the rooms are tiny. It's tough to find a decent inexpensive place to stay in NY. I once went to Comfort Inn on the upper west side for 160+ a night and it was a total dump! Good luck and have fun!
Also forgot to mention - we do not have the 2-hour delay in our district.

I saw some program the other day on TV where the

The TV program (can't remember the name) said the kids today in America have it pretty rough and so for one day a year, Halloween, let them have some fun....

Y'all don't need to be reading PAGANISM into this holiday for toddlers/little kids as I believe 90% of the trick-or-treaters do not come from Pagan families......

Give the little ones a break, please!

we are probably on different program...
I have very little problems with the program I use but we are not supposed to talk anything about MT work on the Gab board, per the rules, as I understand them.....
on what program?

what email program are you using? nm

Where do I enroll in that program?

Program for fleas
I have not heard of Program, but I use Frontline. I have not had NY problems with it. My vet charges $15 for it, but I can also get it at our local Humane Society for $10. With 4 cats, it adds up to quite a bit of money. You might want to try that.
Do you use an antivirus program? If so, what? sm

My McAfee ran out and I just wondered what you use.  I heard there are "free" antivirus programs you can download from the internet.  Anyone heard of that or tried it?

thanks

WW is a great program IMO (sm)
I lost 70 pounds on WW and have kept it off (up/down 10 depending on life). I believe this is one of the best programs because it gives you a very simple, almost subliminal, education about nutrition and allows you to eat just about anything in moderation.

Once one is emotionally and mentally ready to accept that lifestyle and dietary changes are necessary to lose weight (the biggest hurdle IMO), WW is really the smartest plan to follow. No fads, no prohibited food groups, etc.

I don't follow the plan currently, but what I learned and practiced for the 9 months it took me to lose 70 pounds (4 years ago), I'm pretty much programmed regarding portion control and how to undo the overdo... yeah... I'm in the process of undoing right now :-)

Good luck to you!!
Nursing program
I am 49 years old, have been an MT for 7 years and am thinking of going back to school for an RN degree.  Wonder what my chances of getting into the program are (I know there's always a waiting list, but of course that depends on the school one chooses too; I live in GA), and how long this all might take.....???  I made As and Bs in high school and aced the transcription program at a local 2-year technical college...................any thoughts?  Should I forget about it?  I don't want to be unreasonable, but having thoughts about doing something to make more money.  I have one child who is a senior in college and have 2 boys to put through college eventually, so more money sure would be nice.
good program
I used the program to sell my old house about 6 years ago. Now after 6 years in this house, definitely time to start up again because I am not thinned out from moving!

Just started again 2 months ago. I love how you start at the ceiling and work your way down to the floor, 15 minutes at a time. I love how my bathrooms are always "company clean" and my sink is shining. She is on youtube now and I used the holiday missions and it worked great for getting the christmas decorations put away! Can't say enough good things about it. I think they used to teach this stuff back in the old days for people who did not work outside of the home, but working inside of the home and not being able to keep the house clean was too frustrating! Baby steps work much better, like you said, so the dust quits calling my name!
Sounds like my kids...on a school day "we just got home from school!" on a vacation day....sm
But this is our vacation! My husband takes vacation days and leaves town without us...lol! He would never dream of taking a day off to work around the house!
In our area, there is a program called
"Mended Hearts".  I am not sure if this is nationwide, but there are volunteers that will come out who have had the surgery, and they talk about how far they've come.  Another option, I guess would be cardiac rehab, and I am wondering if that would lend some support as maybe he feels a little alone in his quest?  Best of luck and hope he finds his way soon.
Weight Watchers is the best program
You can eat what you would cook every day, but it is the portion control.  I used this program after having both of my children as I gained close to 100 pounds with each pregnancy (too much bread and butter).  I have now stabilized, but still watch my portions.  I do believe the water and exercise are a very, very important part of Weight Watchers.  I did not feel deprived from sweets because as the other poster stated, the point system took care of that.  If you know you will indulge, you simply cut back on one of your meals.  I had a husband and two children to care for, but I still lost weight eating the same food that I served them, I just controlled my own portions.  Hope this helps.  Weight Watchers gets my vote.
I'm trying to lose weight through the WW program
I started during the summer and kind of fell off of it. I'm trying to lose between 30-40 pounds. My daughter became a vegetarian about 4 months ago and she already lost 23 pounds. I like my meat so I won't go that route, but I'm trying to exercise a little bit every day and eat healthier. Good luck to you and everyone else trying to lose.
Fantastic! What a wonderful program that is. -nm

As part of an incentive program- sm
I get 12 cpl, but only after 1500 lines in one day, 11 cpl after 1000 lines. Believe me, it's incentive. It really starts to add up, but the best I've ever done is about 1980 lines in one day, once, a couple years ago. This week my goal is 1800, but it's turning out more like 1600.
I used the Medifast program. It worked wonderfully (sm)
I think the HMR is all liquid which is the difference with Medifast. With Medifast, you eat 5 of their meals (oatmeal, shakes, pudding, soup, or bars) and 1 meal you prepare of a protein and a vegetable. It was very easy to follow, I never felt hungry, and I lost over 60 pounds in 7 months. What I loved about this diet was I learned a whole lot about portion control.
if you work with Horizon program, please see message

I just started working with Horizon Radiology Manager program and having problems viewing my line count.  I was told by another MT that Java interfers with this program.  Does anyone else have problems with Horizon and Java?  I also have another job where I help out some and their program is Meditech and I think I need my java for that.

Thanks for any info.

Does anyone use Program flea meds for their pets? sm
I have three dogs and a cat that I was using a topical flea med on. We got a new puppy last week and she had fleas. I washed her and got rid of them, but now have noticed a couple of fleas on the other dogs. Not a lot, but some. I have heard that the Program works better than the topical stuff and would like to try it, but it is rather expensive so I am looking for any input before I buy it.  Thanks!!
Mine has a bachelors and applied for MS program (sm)
he is three years older so was about the same age as me when he was going to do this. Thinks its alright for him. Our marriage is already very rocky. I feel like rather than deciding whether to divorce or not right now I should further my education instead.
I have Avast antivirus program, and it's free also. - NM

Have you ever heard of the Weigh Down Diet program? sm
It's not really a diet. It is a matter of changing the way you eat, not what you eat. Feel free to e-mail me and I'll give you some specifics.

Anyone know how to get started having a computer program made

I have an idea I have been thinking about for a while, a software program actually. I think it is a good idea but I have no idea where to begin to try to have it made and marketed.  If anyone knows I would really appreciate any advice you have.

Thanks!

I did read some stations not carrying the program
so perhaps offensive in some things? I did not watch. I think Sharon probably looks the best of all the family.
How is the school's fault if Johnny comes to school armed?
And how is the school's fault if off campus people are getting jumped? Everybody wants to blame the schools, but the reason places have gone "zero tolerance" is because every parent whose kid gets popped for an illegal weapon says, "Oh, my little pookie wouldn't do that." Which is exactly what the parents of every perpetrator of school violence has said. At 15, this girl should have been aware that it was verboten and, if they felt that strongly it was necessary, kept it hidden. If she is not capable of thinking that part through, maybe she shouldn't be trusted with pepper spray anyway.
How is this kid in school with chronic infestation? School nurse

Son's HS grad program listed the "Class Moto."

Ugh!

Body For Life is a weight loss program that worked for me.

The book is full of ads for his foods. If you can read past the ads it has great advice. The journal is essential IMHO. It is nice to know exactly what you did that "worked" when you start to drop the pounds. I do Walk Away The Pounds for the aerobic exericise part.

Most libraries own the book. The ISBN# is 0007149670

St. Vincent De Paul Society is good. Volunteers administer the program.

DH's choice

This is the dog my DH says we can have!  He is 5 years old.  He has been a show dog, but he finds it too boring, so we get to adopt him .... if Sasha approves of him.  Do you think he's pretty?

http://www.synama-wintersweet.com/trey.asp

I am told this is an excellent line for show Siberians.  You can tell who the champions are (to see their other dogs, click "Our Siberians" tab at the top) by the CH before their names.

don't have a choice....
have to get the kids off to school, but most of the time still in my pjs
My choice . . .
Denzel Washington, Paul Newman, Robert Redford.
Again, you do not know whether they had a choice
or not.  This is simply your opinion that they did not have a choice.  Yes, teenage girls, or boys, for that matter, can be married with the consent of their parents.  Again, we do not know the facts in this case.  You have even gone as far as saying the men are "old and stinky."  How exactly do you know this?  You do not...  That is simply your opinion.  I have lived in St. George, Utah, which is very close to an area where these people live, and I have seen many young (20s-30s), what I would consider attractive men, married to these women.  It is best not to stereotype people, especially when all of the facts are not available.
It is not your choice...
As I stated above, it really is NOT your choice! She could REQUEST leave, or a reassignment, but nothing is saying that it will be approved! Especially in the Marines! There aren't always, "ways to get around that."
choice-
gay is a choice sort of like being male or female is a choice, sort of like having brown eyes is a choice, sort of like being tall is a choice. Whatever. One does not choose to be gay nor does one decide to be gay.
Of course I do! I'm an MT- I have no choice!
If I want new clothes, you can't beat Walmnart's prices, plus they usually have some of the cutest clothes.

The rest of the time, I go to Goodwill and Thrift Stores. Just found great new one in the East Bay Area (CA) called Thrift Town, and got a perfect-fitting pair of Levi's for $3.50, and two lightweight hoodie workout-type jackets for $1.00 each. Can't beat that!
yes to both..but by choice, not by force.sm
some docs get caught up on their dictations while on holiday. I am alone and have nothing better to do anyway, so why not make some extra cash. but that's just me. good luck in your search.
ok-it's about choice-don't be intimate....sm

don't forget in the USA (outside of Alaska) there are 10 women for each man.......40 years ago it was 8 men for each women but we know how those numbers changed.....15 minutes out of 24 hours or 2x's a week being intimate for an hour in a 168-hour week - is too much to ask for? *curious*

Sounds like they don't have a choice, it's where YOU want them to be.
