That guy is either a jerk or just really ignorant! I would approach him very nicely about it though. Maybe call him and say something like, "I wanted to talk to you about something you said that hurt my daughter's feelings. I'm sure you meant it as a joke, but this is a sensitive subject for her since she does have a learning disability. She is an extremely bright girl and has to work twice as hard as most kids, so for you to call her lazy, even in a joking way, really cut her to the bone." Or something like that.
Many people are held back in school, and I wish you guys the best of luck. My dad was held back in 4th grade (his parents divorced that year), and he now owns a successful business, and I'm sure there are millions of similar stories. She will be stronger for having gone through this tough time, and she will probably be more emphathetic towards others and more prepared for life's tough challenges than many other kids.
I would say something to him though so he doesn't continue to say things like that to her. Maybe he was just teasing her and trying to be funny, but he needs to understand that it's not okay to joke about things like that. Plus, many very intelligent people are horrible at written tests, even if they don't have a learning disability. Some could pass a verbal test wtih flying colors, but put a piece of paper in front of them and they freeze up.
