I try to pick and chose- sm

Posted By: Laura E. on 2009-02-27
In Reply to: School fund raisers - MT mom

in the Fall I usually have 4 going on at various times. Nuts for GS, candles for dance, flags/magazines for school and frozen cookied dough for school...the two school ones do not overlap but are only a few weeks apart from each other. The nuts and candles overlap the school ones though. Obviously I try not to bug my neighbors too much. We hit everyone up for GS, but for dance I just make a donation, and school we may ask a few people on the flag/magazine one, the cookied dough one I don't bother anyone, it is gross, and I still have stuff in my freezer from 2007 (which I have to chuck). Kids just brought home another one a few days ago for St. Judes (from school). I give to our local Children's Hospital and Make-A-Wish, and ASK (raises funds for MCV's Pediatric Oncology Dept.)so St. Jude's is out of luck there. I just do cash donations now if I want to donate that is, otherwise I do not go to the trouble to bother every soul I know to buy something, and never ask family except for the grandparents.

I chose not to

Recently, my teenage son got up from the computer and left his IM window open.  On it, he has referred to my husband, his father as "Hitler."  I chose to keep this to myself.

However, I wonder if you telling your dh that your child considers him a yeller, if that would change something.

Also, if he is in constant pain, that probably has a TON to do with dh's attitude.

Yes, I chose to have everything taken out due to the risks
involved of leaving the ovaries in. I was actually pregnant at the time of this discovery and elected to continue the pregnancy (against medical advice) and had the surgery done afterwards.
But he mom chose to dismiss it, and the dad did his best.
x
I had it done, chose the string..sm
method - I don't agree that they will fall off with no pain - I DID have pain, and continued bleeding to the point that I had to wear a band-aid for over a week.  And yes, mine did grow back - although it's not nearly as large as it was before I had it removed.  If I do have to repeat the removal, I think I'll go with snipping it off!
I chose to buy. I was in a position to be able
to put enough down on the home so that my mortgage is actually less than most rentals around here.

I would recommend you buy if you plan on staying in that area because the rates are so great right now. You are likely to be able to grab a great deal on a house. If your credit is good, don't put as much down for a deposit and sock it away for emergencies. Good luck to you!
NOT all CHOSE to be here! and they are trying to do their best to acclimate!..nm

why I chose a Ford
This website is excellent. Most people are happy with their cars for the first couple of years, but then the lemons start to surface...

carsurvey.org
We went out together and I chose mine - and love it
your boyfriend sounds very immature.  Good Luck!
My first husband chose that life
not because he was broke, hungry or the like. He came from a well to do family, had home but just wanted to live that kind of life. Stayed out there for years because he wanted to. I do not hand out money to beggars along the roads. Ask them to come and work for you (even though holding up a sign saying they will work for money) and see how many offers you get. I can flip how many burgers not to be another out there- probably a heck of a lot.
Exactly! Poster chose to put those 4 sentences
x
I'm also disappointed that you chose this route.
It seemed obvious that you didn't want the paddling to happen, but you caved and let someone else (school and daughter) make the decision.

Whether one is for or against corporal punishment isn't even the issue for me. The bigger thing with me is the thought that some adult getting may be getting his/her thrills from paddling a teenage girl.
oh, it occurred to her, she chose to ignore it...
and these people had to pay $7000 income tax on these vehicles so most of them sold the vehicles instead.  However, giving a car isn't as bad as a plasma TV in my mind for the homeless because at least they could sleep in the car(s)......cellphones and plasmas for the homeless made no sense whatsoever to me.
You chose assistance rather than working, right?
Says a lot for you.
Both of my children were out of high school when I chose this

job to be able to stay at home and work. I still wanted to be there for them and for my husband. I take great pride in my work and do a great job. Just because I chose a job that provided the "benefits" that I wanted does not make me unprofessional. A lot of people chose their professions based on the benefits that profession offers, but it doesn't make them a bit less professional. So, TM, I'm with you on this one. I chose this job to be able to stay at home and I'm not the least bit ashamed to tell anybody that's my reason.

My mother chose my stepfather over her kids
I have been in the same situation for the last 20 years. My mother figures she only sees us once in a while, so she would rather not be alone the rest of the time. I know how much it hurts to not feel welcome in your mother's house. It shouldn't be that way.
Garmin is a popular model, but DH chose
the Magellan Maestro 4000 GPS portable navigational system for features and price.

He got it on Bizrate through Beach Camera.

glad you chose to hand quilt...sm

I've always felt that machine quilting was cheating...I like nana's idea of the yarn ties...that was the first one my grandma taught me how to do.  Mommy also quilted and we'd hit the quilt shows where you have to wear white gloves before touching any quilt.

Recently went to the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah, KY (couldn't touch....it took all my willpower, believe you me).....The unique artistry and craftsmanship of each piece was breathtaking....a lot of applique and embroidery was employed as well...painting with thread and material...whoa!  My friend and I split up and studied those quilts for about 1-1/2 hours and then we asked each other "Which one would you choose to take home?"    Cat

Good for you. I could have worked 2 jobs, but I chose to
spend my time with my kids so they would know they had a mother, not just an  I'll never ask anybody for help, never at home, money-making machine.
How pompous! I'm a single mom and I didn't "breed" - I chose not to murder a baby. sm
yep, I'm a single mom and I'm proud of it. I was in a very stable long-term relationship and I ended up getting pregnant while on the pill. But I didn't "breed" as you put it. You breed cattle, not babies.
Can't pick just one . . . sm
Dances with Wolves, original Rocky, Bladerunner, A River Runs Through It, The Way We Were and The Notebook are my faves
I can't pick just one either...

I like lighthearted stuff mostly - How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Lucky Seven, Wedding Date, Wedding Planner, Never Been Kissed.

But, also really liked Contact and U-571 and A Time to Kill (see the Matthew McConaughey pattern emerging?)  And Dead Poets Society is also one of my favorites (I cry at the end every time - My Captain, my Captain!  )  Oh, and It's A Wonderful Life - I watch it every Christmas by myself because no one else will watch it with me.

Good question.

They always pick someone..... sm
I would immediately have a discussion with her about this and if she continues to be this way towards you and your daughter I would take it to the principal of the school. My son had a teacher last year that kept him after constantly and he was only in the second grade. I asked her to keep him in at recess instead of after school as I have someone picking him up daily who cannot wait on him and she did not so I took it over her head. There is not a teacher alive that is going to pick me or my child to be "the chosen one" for that year to pick on.
Thanks Dillybug! I will have to pick one up!
Anything to make the job easier as I hate to clean the tub!
my dog would try to help me pick strawberries,
eating them off the plant as i picked. But i saw a list in my vet's office about all the foods toxic to dogs/cats. It is generally best just not to feed people food to animals.
Pick your poison

I figure you can do one of two things:

First, buy the Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus books and learn how to talk like a man.  You know - short, sweet and to the point or maybe just a couple of grunts.  No blow-by-blow descriptions.  None of that emotional/feelings garbage.  Don't use him as a sounding board for ideas - ask his opinion only if you want him to fix the problem.  All that [insert your expletive here] stuff.

Second, and the one I would prefer, is to go out and buy a T-shirt that says *If I'm Talking You Should Be Taking Notes*.  Actually, I'd get several in various colors, one for every day of the week.

And I wonder why I'm not married! (she grins)

Sisters . . can't pick em
As the oldest of 10, 2 brothers, one passed on quite young, and 6 sisters, it's bittersweet. Sometimes I think I am the odd one as I don't think like my sisters, and therein lies the problem. Our parents died young. Three of us married sisters took in two younger ones each, and did a relatively good job, not great, but they were loved, cared for, included in everything, and I truly enjoyed and relished their company. Now we are all adult women, and I hardly see them because they are too weird. I have always praised them, and have always been proud of them. They all educated themselves, have masters and bachelor degrees in the medical field. What they have in education they lack in common sense or the ability to gain insight. It amazes me and floors me that they hate my mother's family. My sisters target them for neglect and abandonment, when in reality we had lousy, abusive parents who did not take care of themselves, which is in part why they died so young. My sisters focus their hurt on our mother's family. My sisters are narcissistic, antisocial, and completely paranoid of me because I do get along with my mother's family. My sisters do not include me in any of the holiday functions. Oh well, I say, I am the lucky one because I can be objective, look at painful situations, hold no one accountable for my lot in life, gain insight and grow from my past, and love being around people and socializing. What hurts me is that I have finally figured out why they are so distant with me - pretty much without saying it clearly, this summer, the sister I was the closed to, had a talk with me and pretty much feels that it would have been better if they had been adopted out!! Unbelievable. That is so easy to say because it did not happen that way. Now, I think the only sad part is that they all have such beautiful children, and what a loss that they do not allow me to have a relationship with them. I would love to have a relationship with my nieces and nephews, take them out, have them over for sleep overs, and cookie baking. Life is so funny sometimes. In spite of it all, I think that I am the one truly blessed and pretty lucky.
HMR is better - and you can pick and choose
My mother got NutriSystem and most of the meals are unpalatable and I can eat about anything (some were okay).  HMR is actually good.  Difference is breakfast consists of shakes/cereal.
How do we pick a charity
I am wondering how to we pick a charity. Is there a list somewhere or do I have to find the local website? I would love to donate to animal shelters in my community, but not sure how to select it so funds would go to them.
4+ for me. Everyone has time to pick up a bit! nm..

He helped me pick it out!
I tried it on in front of him, too.
Here's a couple for you -- you pick!

1)  I was on the phone with my boyfriend sitting on a no-back barstool.  I was rocking back and forth against the wall when the barstool went out from under me.  It not only went under me, the leg came back to jam me up the rectum.  Of course I dropped the phone and immediately started yelling, IT HURTS, IT HURTS!!  My boyfriend stayed on the phone all that time and my mom had to pick it up and tell him I'd have to call him back later I just gave myself an impromptu colonoscopy.  Talk about red!!  My butt hurt for like a week.  I couldn't even poop for 2 days after that.

2)  My boyfriend (now husband) and I were making out in an orchard one night.  Afterwards, he took me home and the next morning I awoke to find my entire backside covered with poison ivy.  I also noticed I was missing about $60 I had shoved into my pockets the night before.  I immediately called my boyfriend and explained that it must have fallen out of my pocket in the orchard.  Since $60 was a lot of money to me then (now it barely fills up my tank), I asked him to go back and look for it.  Lucky for me he found it and I used it to buy some Calamine lotion.  Man, did my butt itch for a week.  We still laugh about this one.

He would be my pick, but both very talented. NM

Not sure of websites, but pick a
x
I'm sure the kids will pick

out something perfect for them.  I heard of a youth group name the other day and it is kind of cheesy but it stuck with me for some reason.

God Squad!

Don't cancel. When you pick it up again
if there are any "pre-existing conditions" then they can be excluded. I wnet for a little bit before getting insurance as I could not afford Cobra before my new job's insurance clicked in and then my daughter who had had an ovarian cyst 5 years ago was excluded for that and, of course, she had to go to the ER for another one 1 month before the new kicked in and we had a $4000 ER bill. DO NOT CANCEL>
OP surely knows on herself that she has to pick
herself up and get going.
She is just down and wants to vent and looks for some compassion and support.
This forum is also a 'venting' forum for all our various frustrations.....

There should be a 'venting' Board with 'no bashing' allowed.
Where? I wanna go pick 'em myself.
Ponchatoula?
DH played the lottery, Pick 4, hit it
straight.  What got me was he only played 50 cents, but he still won 2500.  I would've played at least a dollar!!  What was funny was that he had a job number and a work number that were the same number.  He said that never happened in 30 years of working.  Told him he had to play those four numbers for a week.  Three days later, my "cheap" husband hit!  I still tease him about it! and still kicking myself that I didn't play it too!!  You just never know :)
I pick at them until they come off. Cheaper than a dr visit

If she stops meowing after you pick her up (sm)
she is probably not in pain. She would meow and may even lash out and bite if she were in pain. She wants lovins from her momma and some attention, it sounds like. Things to look for when it is the end (although not all animals are the same, of course): Sleeping/lethargy, not eating or drinking, urinating on self, etc. I know it's hard to hear *you'll know* but you really will. And if you are even questioning right now, it's probably not time and she just wants reassurance.
yes, you can practice by trying to pick up a towel (sm)
with your toes.  Rather than doing the bending back and stretching, which I eventually started to think was actually aggravating my fasciitis, bend your toes under like you are going to pick something up with your foot.
Just like a potato chip, can't pick just one!

300, Forest Gump, Bram Stokers Dracula, 50 First Dates.

Those are probably my top ones that I never get sick of watching. I have a pretty huge movie collection and pretty much only buy ones that I really love though.  I'm a fan of most all types of movies.

We let everyone pick one menu item
for Thanksgiving dinner. No one cares much for turkey, so we are having ham, sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans, corn, homemade rolls, asparagus, bruschetta, pumpkin pie, cheesecake, and Rice Krispy treats.

It is not terribly traditional, but everyone always has something they will eat,and the kids have fun making their choices.

One year the kids picked lasagna, grilled cheese sandwiches, shrimp cocktail, Pizza Rolls, and Pop Tarts. It was interesting and fun. It also alleviates some of the stress of trying to create the "perfect" Thanksgiving dinner.
You must pick gross men in general...

Let's just call you stinky girl

haha, do you think I could pick up the accent?
or is it instilled in childhood??
haha

and i think i will be driving through there whenever i move back to Nevada!!
My son could pick out all letters at 18 months old...
We made it a game. Everywhere we went, we would point out letters for him to name- on signs, cereal boxes, menus, etc. Now, we have him tell us what the letters say and read small words. He can read many words and he is not 3 yet. We did NOT teach the alphabet song until after he knew each letter because I think that it is confusing. LMNOP all run together and as a kid, I thought that it was one word. At any rate, maybe try some kind of incentive, like carrying stickers or jellybeans or something in your purse and point out letters in the grocery store or wherever. If she gets them right, give her a treat. We also play with flash cards and for each correct answer, Clayton gets to keep the card. When he has all the cards, he wins. Just some things that have worked for me.
Outback Jack and his pick are still married. nm

Please tell me...who did he pick? I had a sick little one and missed the whole thing ! nm

Makes me wonder; is he the pick for *vote for the worst*???
I bet.
