He did apologize, and there is not a person alive who has said or done something ignorant to or in front of someone they found attractive. It wasn't "appropriate", but if he was really a harrassing type of person, it would have been much more than that.
You probably scared the living you-know-what out of him, and a smaller person would not have admitted to you on the phone that he was the person who said it. I think the fear of the unknown is just as bad. He will have to sweat it out waiting for his boss to come to him. That is bad enough, and sometimes worse than other punishments.
