I remember when Nancy Reagan had a double mastectomy

Posted By: Kathie on 2007-02-02
In Reply to: Update on ovarian cyst removal that turned out to be tumor. See messsage. - MTSO

and if I remember correctly, she was only diagnosed with it in 1 side. Not that you have cancer but I remember thinking and talking about her at that time I thought have a bilateral mastectomy was the way I would do in case of this ever happening, plus as aggressive chemo and whatever. Up to now, no further problem with her and I thought she made the right decision, just to be rid of the concern about the other breast eventually having to go back again. By the way, had hysterectomy, not for tumor but unending bleeding and probably best thing I ever did, vaginal route, really no down time, no pain (unlike before). Good luck with your decision.

some of us remember Reagan's ideas on AIDS too

Yep, hated Reagan, arms for contras....Oliver North scandal!!  Nancy was the president anyway!!!  I liked her far better than Ronald!

Don't you remember Ronald Reagan's stance on abortion? sm
It was "I'm PRO-CHOICE. If the unborn baby has a choice, I am PRO-CHOICE."

mastectomy pledge

I try not to post on this site very much but this is something that is very important to me and should be to most of you out there.

www.lifetimetv.com/health/breast_mastectomy_pledge.html

Thank you for signing the pledge.

I need suggestions for someone having a mastectomy...sm
a friend is scheduled to have a mastectomy on Thursday as she has breast cancer.  People in her church and neighbors have already signed up to take meals to her and her family for 2 weeks.  I'd like to put some sort of gift basket together for my friend.  What kind of suggestions would you have of things to put in this that would be special and would be meaningful as she recuperates?
Reagan
He was one of a kind, and we have not had a true Republican in office since him. He cut taxes yet brought in more government revenue. Imagine that. People had more of their own money to spend and they did. He didn't make up "tax credits" which is just another government way to take more of your money - Sure you can get some of it back but you have to do what the gov't says in order to get any of it back. It's a matter of control, coming from a gov't who cannot even control their own spending.

I know a lot here don't like W and in the end, my jury is still out on him but I did go to see his campaign in 2004 when he came to the AF base in Youngstown, Ohio and I do have to tell you - I was right up front and Laura Bush looks at him like they're newlyweds, and the TV cameras do not do her justice. She is just beautiful. Everyone should have a marriage like Ron and Nancy Reagan and George and Laura Bush.
Ronald Reagan
I remember the rumors, when I was in high school, that he was the antichrist (LOL), but what touched me was a story I saw on t.v. in recent years about how his proposal to Nancy went. Apparently, he said to her, "Let's get married!" She replied, simply, "Let's!" I thought it a great story (short and sweet). When you see footage of his speeches and they turn the camera to Nancy, you can see the admiration, awe, and love all over her.
I agree! Reagan/Schmaegan. One of our worst presidents.

A local mastectomy center might fit you for bras, too. Or a high-end lingerie store. nm

I am status post bilateral mastectomy with TRAM flap 12/21/2006
my first post did not post...

-During the immediate postoperative period I found that button front pajama tops with drawstring pants were the most comfortable. About 1 week later if I had to dress, it was in some sort of button front shirt (warm b/c it was winter) and yoga pants or sweatpants. Eventually, I added in a camisole for some bit of support for the new "breasts" created in the reconstruction.
-If your friend will have postoperative drains you'll need some heavy duty safety pins to help keep the drains/tubing from pulling when toileting.
-Large ice packs were great for helping prevent/reduce swelling and also the need for narcotic pain medications. -For me the constipation/cramping cycle set up by the use of narcotics was worse than the immediate postoperative pain and I stopped using them during the day on postoperative day 10. (I would need these later on...see additional post)
-Since I had the suprapubic-tummy tuck type scar I found that my old underwear rubbed exactly on it. I did find some at Walmart..don't know the name but they are boy pants with lace V-front, and are about $3/pair. They were perfect and hit just below the scar.
-Tell your friend to start eating prunes or fiber now and be sure to get some Colace and take it preoperatively. I did so and still had terrible problems with constipation.

also: I recommend 2 books that really helped me out:

Not just One in Eight by Barbara Stevens
and
Beating Cancer with Nutrition by Patrick Quillin (formerly of Cancer Treatment Centers of America)

I hope this helps you and your friend. God Bless

Unfortunately, Nancy is deceased. nm

Nancy Grace
She is an interesting person.  I believe that she is still on maternity leave.  She recently gave birth to preemie twins, her first pregnancy at the age of 48 or so.
Nancy Drew
My daughter is 9 and in 4th grade and loves the Nancy Drew books. She got into them after seeing the movie from last year starring the teen Emma Roberts (she had a show on the Nickelodeon channel). The movie I thought was really cute and old-fashioned. She really likes the "mystery" genre at this point. I personally never was into Nancy Drew but liked my mom's old Trixie Belden mystery books which were similar.
Nancy Drew
My goodness, they go for big bucks on e-bay! Try that, then donate to your local library; however, they may give them away if they already have them. FYI.
Any Nancy Drew fans?

When I shopped for one of my nieces at Circuit City, I stumbled on a Nancy Drew computer game.  I don't have kids, so I'm out of the loop I know, but I thought that was cool.  We loved those books when we were kids, but I don't know if my sister has introduced her daughter yet.

My niece is 9, and youngest recommended age is 10.  But it was only $20, so we got her one other little hand-held game that was only about $6, so at least she can play that right away.

Nancy Drew books
My daughter used to read those when she was young.
Okay - don't laugh but WHO is Nancy Grace??
Never heard of her - is she national?
My 7-year-old just got into Nancy Drew, got her -sm
first one the other day with a gift card from her uncle. She knows I love mysteries and is getting into them herself now; so yes, young girls still read Nancy Drew!
Nancy Drew - the original ones from the 1930s

I loved A Wrinkle in Time, too, and the Trixie Belden books, also the original ones. And the Bobbsey Twins.

Am I telling my age here?

Knew about breaking Nancy Kerrigan's kneecaps

I knew (the world knew) about her having Kerrigan's kneecaps broken but I meant is she still breaking kneecaps?  *LOL* but not really funny, I know....

she seemed like such trailer park trash (not insulting the good folk who DO live in trailer parks, only the TRASHY ones).........and I guess that never DID change for Tonya, eh.....

It's all about choices in the life, I do believe.........

Tidbit of information, Regans wife, Nancy
was pregnant when they married, their daughter. This was his second marriage, married to Jane Wyman before this one.
Please watch Nancy Grace tonight. She will have the tragedy that I sm

asked everyone to pray about 2 days ago - the family who lives 2 street over in Parkville, MD, who had 5 family members die in a  head-on crash returning home from a Christmas trip to Michigan.

This is such a horrific, tragic accident.

I never watch Nancy, but curious as to what the show is about.  If you want to see photos of this precious family you can visit www.myspace.com/bhjlv

This precious family's story should warn everyone about the dangers of drinking...Have a great night everyone.

I love Nancy Grace. working, but will try to catch this one later
thanks for telling us about it!
Last night on Nancy Grace they reported a lot of the women are SM
on Welfare, and that the young boys work construction jobs and then turn all the money over to the leaders of the compound. Someone earlier posted that these are members of the Mormon church, but my cousin, who died in 1999 was Mormon and her husband who visited our family 2 years after her death (they lived on the opposite coast) told us that the Mormon church absolutely no longer tolerates polygamy. He has been Mormon all his life.
Do young girls still read Nancy Drew books? - sm
I know I read them when I was around 10 or 11, but that was 30 years ago and I am not sure what girls read these days.  I am trying to find someone who would really appreciate them because I believe my mom buying me my first one truly led to a love of reading that continues today (true crime no less!).  I may just donate them to our local library.  Any other ideas?
Nancy Snyderman, Chief Medical Correspondent for MSNBC just
release a book "101 Medical Myths and Maladys; the ones that are true remedies and ones that are folklore. Good read. I highly suggest it.
don't remember Minnie, but I remember Kiki! Though I would rather not.

A double duh here
I was answering the post above me when they said Merck would benefit off these injections. Yes, I said, that is what most pharmaceutical companies are in the business for. I use medications, my husband does, my whole family does. I really don’t understand what you are trying to say?? This in no way will effect me whether it is mandatory or not.
Double Yea to Andy!
Good for him! Good for you!
I will not tell you what my first thought was when you wrote "detasseling", but I can assure you it had nothing to do with corn!

My son is a college student. He has a job on campus. I pay the college bills he pays for whatever he needs while at school. This is his 2nd year and so far so good - he's never asked me for money. He was home on break a few weeks ago and was so excited to show me this t-shirt he bought at a Goodwill store. It was black with a very large photo of Michael Bolton on it. He thought it was a riot, and so didn't I because we both have a warped sense of humor. He is a very preppy-looking kid, usually wears a white t-shirt with an opened collared shirt over it, nice jeans, clean-cut, short hair. The Michael Bolton t-shirt is SO unlike him. He's now looking for a shirt with David Hasselhoff on it. You will may be entertained by what your son buys.

Enjoy these years, they are THE best!
Thanks. I will be sure to double check this. nm

Say what, in the south we have double
names for males also, since when did you think it stopped at females?
Funny that the double name comes up
I was going to add that to my original post, as both of her girls have double names. So, for the third girl, she wants to keep it the same. They have kind of given up on that tho, since they haven't been successful at finding anything. Thanks a bunch!!!
double standard

Men have been doing it for centuries....marrying and/or keeping mistresses about 15-20 years younger and nothing is said about it, other than "You lucky dog."

Why is it so frowned upon in society for women to consider the same option?

Ditto and NEVER again. I'd rather pay double! lol
Amazing what some people will do to save a buck.
Oh no, we're going to H E double L!

Are you even capable of making a point without the scare tactics? And you wonder why bible thumpers like you are laughed at.

It is considered a double negative, sm
and not standardly use.  Use "regardless", or "irrespective".  It is considered bad grammar.
According to Wikipedia, double-wides just
depreciate more slowly than single-wides:

"Others have strongly limited or forbidden all single-wide models, which tend to depreciate in value more rapidly than modern double-wide models."

And modern double-wides depreciate less quickly than older double-wides:

"Newer manufactured homes, particularly double-wides, tend to be built to much higher standards than their predecessors and meet the building codes applicable to most areas. This has led to a reduction in the rate of value depreciation of most used units."

Unfortunately that's still losing money instead of making it.

I had a mouse get in my double oven many
years ago and get electrocuted on the wiring. Needless to say the kitchen smelled like something dead for DAYS. I tore the room apart and never found it. When we took the front electrical panel off 3 months later to replace a report, there it was! Looked like it was crucifed. All bones and they all fell out all over the stove. Yuk.
I double lock the door and have a
security latch as there's been a lot of break-ins at gun point lately. We live in an apt and since I work overnight I've actually had people that thought my door was their door and tried to unlock it...drunk ones, of course.

I've thought about leaving my keys in the car and the windowns down (1999 car with 137,000 miles on it)....JOKING.
Are we going to h-e-double-hockeysticks in a handbasket or what? NM

Please forgive the double post. Wise NM

modular/manufactured (double) are built the same
the modular comes in sections, the manufactured comes in halves. The specifics are the same.
Just chop it and double bag it in the freezer. You'll be
s
I'm short so I always have to pull my straps double all the way
I get mine at Walmart and Target. but I was thinking maybe if I get a few good bras they would stay. So I went to VS and holy moly...$50 bucks for a bra? I'll stick with my slippin straps!
You can buy a single/double burner at lab supply - sm
or jewerly supply places for about $30. We (jewelers) use it to heat up pickle solution (cleans the metal after soldering). I bought might from a place called Rio Grande, big jeweler supplier. You can probably find one used on ebay or craigs list though.
My company pays double time, so I work
4 hours spread out through the day on those days, maybe a few in the morning and then a few at the end of the day.  There is never a shortage of people wanting to make double time on these days.  At the places I have previously worked, we did an every-other-year thing for both these holidays unless people didn't want to work them, and nobody was forced to. If you don't want to work a certain day for religious beliefs, you should state this up front, otherwise ask them their policy and whether or not that is something that would work for you.  You always have a choice not to take that position.
Separate bathrooms would definitely be great, or 1 huge one. Nix to the double
s
I wear Bali double lift bra. I know Penneys SM
has a large selection of all size bras and even have professional fitters come in a couple of times a year.
Looking at holiday pics, I am so disappointed in my double chin. sm
Any ideas how to get rid of this fat bag around my chin/neck area?  Do you just have to lose a lot of weight for it to decrease?  I am obese at 180 lbs, 5Ɗ".  But boy it just looks horrible in pics.  It bothers me more than the actual overall weight does.  Guess diet is in for my New Years's resolutions........
Oh, and double check which side you are supposed to sleep on (sm)
I think it is your right side. I slept on the opposite side from the correct one but can't remember which is which...one side will help your body filter out toxins and the other side makes it harder.
Definitely remember Buffy's Bark. Also had a Bassett Hound and remember his bark(EOM)
.
Doesn't she still live in that trailer? Or has she graduated to a double wide? lol
