I remember Mexico sending aide when Katrina hit

It really surprised me, and I was very touched by it. I remember thinking at that time, all these countries we've helped and the only place that sends help our way is poor ol' Mexico.

Yes. When I worked on the floor as an aide
It seemed a lot of the RNs thought they were the most elite part of the hospital/society and treated everyone that way. What I despised most though is that they would do their patient assessments, charting, then sit around the nurses station and gossip while we did the majority of the work and they would try to shove as much as their job on us as they could, even things we were not qualified to do. They also were the most unprofessional people. They were the ones that tended to make fun of a patients ailments, body habitus, lack of education etc., than any other personnel in that hospital.
There were some good RNs though that knew their place but it seemed that they were few and far between. The real good RNs did not stay long at that little rinky-dink county hospital, they were just there to get their experience and go to bigger and better places. Glad that is ancient history for me now as far as dealing.
Several years ago my sister-in-law was a teacher's aide in
a kindergarten class. Her father passed away and she was out for several days. When she returned the teacher of the class told a little boy why she had been out because he asked. The teacher explained that she had lost her dad and told the little boy to tell my sister-in-law he was sorry. He looked up at my sister-in-law and said Why? I didn't kill him!"
MS, on the coast. It's still pretty bad here 18 mos. after Katrina.
And just for an added kick in the gut, after the storm our hospital gave our jobs to MQ.
How 'bout Katrina? Love that name.
Even though there was a devastating hurricane by that name, I still love it and always wanted a granddaughter. Have all sons and they all had sons. Thought I would have a chance this time as my 35 yo son and wife are pregnant. But no, ultrasound shows another boy on the way.
At least the family name will continue.
You do realize that with Katrina damage
At least in Mississippi and Lousiana part....they may have rebuilt some hotels but the surrounding locality looks like a war zone; most of the boat docks and walking/fishing piers were completely destroyed and probably haven't been rebuilt, and many of the cute local beach restaurants are gone. It might be educational re Katrina damage if that's what you're after...but it's not what I'd call a happy place to vacation at this time.
Would suggest that Katrina be omitted, at least for a few years! :) nm

One of my friends has a 13 yo daughter named Katrina.
She's really hated her name since the hurricane.
mexico
Went to Cozumel last summer and felt much hostility. Tourist really stand out! Key West was much friendlier and same weather!
No way would I go to Mexico right now.

Mexico
Oh don't get me started. LOL
There has been a travel alert on for Mexico for seveal years. When the State Department issues a travel WARNING is when you need to take heed and stay out of a country. The problems in Mexico are not in the main tourist areas...why...because the problems are with the drug cartels, not with the tourists. Those problems are in specific areas of Mexico, the border towns, Mex. City, the state of Sinola (which is where one of the strongest drug cartels is). If you go to Mexico and take the same precautions you would take in your own home town you will not have any problems. The drug cartels could care less about tourists, they care about the other drug cartels trying to take over their territory. I saw stats recently about all the killings in Mexico for the past year. There were 77 in the entire country that were NOT drug related. "77" is far less than we see in a year in the entire US.
Would I go to a border town or one of the areas like Mex. City where they are having all the problems, no way. To paint all of Mexico with the same brush is not painting a true picture of what is going on in that country. I own a business in Puerto Vallarta and there was one murder there last year...A college student from Colorado, there with his mom and they took a ridiculously large amount of money out of an ATM on a street corner and then stood there and proceeded to count it out right there on the street corner. They then stuffed it in a camera case. He took off across the street and left his mom standing there alone, when someone tried to grab the camera case her son ran back across the street and tried to fight the guys off. Unfortunately he was shot. Would you take out several thousand dollars in the US and stand on the street corner, count it out and stuff it in a camera case, I wouldn't. We have people held up at ATM's in my area all the time and I live in a upper middle class area. When I go to the ATM I watch who is around me and I do my business and leave. I do not stand there.
A couple of weeks ago a man was stabbed to death in his condo. He and his wife were sleeping at 4 a.m. with the sliding glass door wide open (to listen to the ocean). I don't sleep with my sliding glass door open in a hotel/motel/condo, do you? Both stories are tragic but they are both things that can happen anywhere in the world, not just Mexico. If you travel you have to be responsible for yourself, use common sense and not get lost in the paradise of the moment.
I go to Puerto Vallarta several times a year (alone) and walk everywhere (alone) daytime, nighttime, BUT I don't walk on dark beaches at night, I don't walk down dark streets at night. I feel just as safe or safer than I do in the US. You have a thousand eyes on you, every taxi driver is watching you, waiting for you to motion to him for a ride. At home on dark streets, no one is watching me.
So in short...unless you are involved in the drug trade, stand on the corner with tons of money on you, sleep with your door open and unlocked at night, or are planning on going to a border town....go to Mexico and have a great time. Now is a great time to go, we are getting the equivalent to $1.40 for every dollar we exchange for pesos right now.
Rant Over.....LOL
Please DO NOT go to Mexico. sm
Quite apart from Spring Break having somehow become a degrading ritual, the situation in Mexico is quite serious and you can be sure that the State Department issued its warning very reluctantly since we don't like to look like we're "anti-Mexico".
I would never vacation in Mexico
They are sucking the blood out of this country. They come here by the thousands everyday because people like you will hire them.
They pop out babies every year at the American taxpayer's expense, and then we pay for their health care and education.
They sneak into this country, keep wages down, crime and the birth rate up, overcrowd our schools and our jails, then have the nerve to march in our streets and DEMAND citizenship.
On their side, they do not respect our laws, will not extradite criminals wanted in the U.S.
I would never give them one penny of my vacation money. They are NICE to you when you are there because they want your money.
New to New Mexico and have fallen in
love with the Chiles. Have learned when you order food you have to chose between red and green cause everything comes with Chile, yum. From NY and there it was Sabrettes and calzones
Mexico is jealous of Miss USA
Speaking of bilingual signs....call any customer service number, including Social Security, and what do you hear.
I say press 1 for English, otherwise hang up!!!
when I vacation in Mexico, I never find
the people there to be anything but absolutely wonderful, nice, giving, assistive. I love going there and have never thought I was hated, in fact the other way around. I have let people work here at my home and they might be legal and might not have- having said that they will work a lot harder than most I know and no whining, no this and that, no sitting down when there is something to be done and whatever the job is usually pay $10 per hour and then a tip if the work is good.
I have been to Cancun and several parts of Mexico and
never ever had a bad time there. If you want a hate America type situation, go to Greece. Mexico is a wonderful place for a vacation. My daughter just went to Cancun this past year as she does every year and we always have a great time.
yeah but...Mexico is gorgeous. Hey, I went to Cancun. I look at sm
it this way: If more of us were to vacation and spend our money there enjoying their gorgeous wild life and pretty beaches, that would give them plenty of tourist money and they wouldn't have to leave their country! I respect those hard-working Mexicans who stay in Mexico (like the ones who courted us at the resort), and I support the likes of them. They work hard, stay in their country, and I will give them good tips and help them to help their families as I enjoy snorkeling, deep sea fishing, and great food.
I wouldn't put all Mexicans into a box and say that you wouldn't give them a dime. Yes, there are illegals here who have no morals and I certainly don't support them! But, like I said, I do support those hard-working ones who are staying in their own country. I don't see a problem in that.
A lot of Americans move to Mexico for this very reason.(nm)

Sending You Prayers
I'm so sorry that you have to though this again if you did miscarry. My thoughts are prayers are with and your husband.
Sending you hugs - sm
I am so sorry for your loss. They are like our babies and it is so hard when we lose them. Take care of yourself and give yourself time to greive. Think about maybe a shadow box with your kittie's things in it as a memory.
Sending healing thoughts to you - see msg
I'm so sorry for your losses. Elder care is so difficult; I believe their bodies are so fragile that a single event can take them so quickly. Hindsight is nearly always 20/20 but I honestly believe most doctors and facilities do the best they can. We nearly lost my 80-yo MIL a year ago to similar circumstances, and it made us all aware, including her, that she cannot take anything for granted and that every day is a gift.
Regarding your concerns on her salvation, please don't take that burden onto yourself or play the "what if" game, it will only torture you. Lean on Him and trust in that. (((hugs)))
In the jail they're sending her to,
inmates only get 3 pairs of underwear per week!
Which is apparently 3 pairs more than she normally has.
sending positive thoughts
Hope everything works out for you. . My brother and his daughter have barely spoken to each other for over 12 years. . He now has 2 grandchildren. . I hope he will make that same first step you are making to mend fences. . Life is short - it's time for you to enjoy your grandchildren!
Question for sending to troops in Iraq (sm)
I want to send my cousin a care package for Christmas but want to know if there is a list of things I cannot send. Can anyone help me out?
TIA!
Been there...sending you good thoughts and hugs!....
Hope the day gets better.
that's why i stopped sending Christmas cards
I never got any in return. That's not why I was sending them out, but why waste all that time and energy if nobody cares about it?
Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. SM
I hope your son realizes we all make mistakes (including him) and that he finds it in his heart to forgive. Your grandchildren need to know you and vice versa. I truly hope it all works out for you. My dad and I were estranged even after I repeatedly attempted to reconcile and he died without ever meeting my children. So sad.
there is a reason and why would you consider sending an 8-year-old to a home?

Person sending email to me has no clue
I got an email saying I never loved my brother and I should share what my father gave me with my SIL. I do not owe her 1 red cent. When my brother died in the early 70s she got a settlement then of between $350,000 and $400,000. Do you realize how much money that was then? My mother tried really hard to have the courts set up some kind of guardenship for their 2 minor children (her son's children) so they would have something to live on in later years. Being as my mother was only the grandmother, the courts would not allow this. The money gotten in the settlement was literally squandered. Just for the record, the 3 g'children she spoke of the other day included 2 of her's and 1 being mine. The really bottom line on this was the g'children would have never been able to keep the property because between the 3 of them they basically did not have 1 nickel to rub amongst them. I was paying and had paid prior to my father's death the insurance on the property and the property taxes also. The 3 g'children could not have done it. It takes a lot to keep a property up. My aunt told me is that is water under the bridge, a done deal. Before emailing you should have your facts straight.
don't remember Minnie, but I remember Kiki! Though I would rather not.

I have to ship them today. They are in ziplocks and cushioned with tissue paper - any other suggestions? Thanks!!
Definitaly sending prayers for your daughter and family. nm

Don't feel like sending Christmas cards this year
Christmas is next week. Got pix of the family to put in the cards, and tons of Christmas cards from last year's Christmas sales. Every day, I say, I will do these cards. At least to grandma and grandpa on both sides. Every day, I put it off. DH got a roll of stamps and he has the cards sitting on his nightstand with pix, he has not done any either.
Thus far we got several newsletters from people, saying they did this, they did that, they celebrated this birthday, their kid did this and that. We don't plan to do a newsletter this year, b/c it seems to me these newsletters sound so self-centered! They are not even from family members, they are from DH coworkers and such.
My friends send me e-cards pretty much or we chat over the I-net. We send holiday greetings and catch up that way. My son will be getting grandma and grandpa's on both sides presents the end of the week, and I think I will just put the pictures in the packages when I send and forget about the cards.
This is really sad. Years ago, Dec 1 we'd get a bunch of cards and have ours sent out. Different colors of ink on the envelopes, red and green, holiday stamps, it would be so fun. All the cards we'd get my dad or I would put on a board in shape of a tree and we'd put it on the wall.
Now, it seems with snail mail, and so many other worries about cutting budget, finding enough work, I am not in the mood to write cards. Maybe it will become a thing of the past, and the boxes of cards will accumulate dust in the top of the closet.
Anybody else in this predicament? Thanks in advance for sharing your card stories.
How much money rasied for Katrina, how much money for the diasters due to the tidal waves and what?
Every single one of them have had some smoke around it with the money not getting to where it was supposed to go. I did not contribute, I hardly watched, was not caught up again as I have seen things like this before. They should give a all you can give benefit for Darfur where people are being massacared each and every day. Genocide going on there each and every day. I have not seen any benefits to help them out yet.
he didn't bring back Nelli cuz he knew he was wrong for just sending those 2 in the meeting.

Definitely remember Buffy's Bark. Also had a Bassett Hound and remember his bark(EOM)

Anyone getting an IRS return can you tell me how long it took after sending in your return. nm
:
My ex did that. What I remember was that it
was horrible in the summer and going under houses was not always the greatest experience. He would find dead animals and of course spiders, mice, rats.
Just remember: He's a MAN, he's not a god. LOL

Don't remember anything, just something SM
that felt like cramp and then I woke up. No damage.
My friend, who is quite tiny, said she was moved around quite a bit, but no damage done.
I feel they were excessively rough with you, but that is just my opinion. Also, it sounds like they did not give you enough sedation. You are supposed to feel very relaxed.
Wow! I can remember when ...
we charged $25 period to type it. Then I got to thinking how long I've been out of school. How depressing.
now remember..sm
Brooke also went to Bridgette to see if she could conceive around the same time Taylor did..so, Bridgette could have taken Brooke's eggs, saved them, and used them on Taylor. Anyway, why in the world would Taylor and Nick trust Brooke's daughter with their future child??? I mean come on, Brooke's throwing herself shamelessly at Nick, yet they go to her daughter for in vitro? Wow...
I don't remember the first one....
I couldn't stand looking at Roxy...*lol* - too much gum show......and I do watch the food channel a lot!!! I used to like Rachael Ray before she got REAL famous and glammed herself out. I so liked her when she lived in upstate NY doing the 30-minute meal show or $40 a Day show. Now I refuse to watch her - her voice is very annoying to me today.
GO_AMY!!!
I was 8 - Remember seeing it on TV (sm)
I remember it being such a shock because he had just always been there and seemed like he always would be.
Remember then from when I was a kid sm
my dad's company picnics, with horseshoes, bbqs, lots of fun
As we remember.....
I would like to ask everyone, as you remember the 9/11 attacks today, to also remember the bombing of the Murrah Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995. The 9/11 attacks were far greater in scale and in death toll, and I mourn for those who died and for their families. I also mourn for the 168 people who died in the Oklahoma City bombing. Fewer in number, perhaps, but the lives just as precious. It was so hard for me to watch as rescue workers went through the rubble of the day care and pulled out those tiny bodies...
When we send our soldiers into combat, we train them and give them the best equipment available to defend themselves and destroy the enemy. The people who died on September 11, 2001 and April 19, 1995 were innocent civilians who had their lives ripped away in an instant, by people who had no respect for the sanctity of life and who were too cowardly to take their fight to the battlefield where it belongs.
Never again. We must be vigilant. These events occurred on our own soil. Each of has a duty to keep our eyes and ears open, and to cooperate with the increased security precautions our government has implemented. We are all soldiers in this war.
You THINK you remember until it comes down to it (sm)
When they are actually there in your care you have to remind yourself of exactly what babies can and can't do at certain ages. But maybe you are perfect. If so, I apologize O Great One. It ticks me off when people have smart-axe comments for no apparent reason.
thank you so much, was trying to remember the name of that myself, NM
