spinach - yes,
my books say never steam it but to blanch it in water 1-1/2 minutes, cool promptly in cold water (equal amount of time), drain, freeze. (leave some head space)
BUT, i have lightly steamed my swiss chard, thrown it in a collander, sprayed with cold water (if you don't cool it, it keeps cooking), and then drain/pack in baggies (flatten them out so they stack well) and then when I use them put in steamer again and steam until done -- and chard is very similar to spinach -- and it works great. I figure i don't loose as many vitamins in the water that way.
I have never frozen spinach myself...
but you can buy frozen spinach, it's cooked first and then when you 'cook' it you are thawing it/reheating it.
As for mushrooms, I sautee them first then freeze.

It was wheat from China.........sm
News was that China sprays some of their wheat with a rodenticide and somehow, this spray was on the wheat they shipped over to Canada. I just can't believe the Canadian company didn't check the wheat first BEFORE it went into the food.
The last I knew they were about to wrap and that was some
strike would make any difference.
Others may disagree with me, but since it is cooked
I think it would be fine.
Has anyone ever cooked radishes?
As in steam, sautee, etc.?
If so, how did you cook them & what were they like once cooked? Rachael Ray did some the other day on her show. First I've seen red-skinned radishes cooked. I figure if she can do it, someone here may have done it better.
That's interesting. I wonder if you have a wheat allergy
as well as being sensitive to milk products.
Wrap them in aluminum foil and put in a
pan as you suggested or, if you have crock pots, you could put them in there on warm. If your kitchen at teh church has an oven, I would wrap them and put them in the oven on warm, and then replace them on the serving table as needed.
A great veggie dip...
1 can Red Gold Petite Mexican Fiesta Tomatoes (drained)
1 16-oz. sour cream
1 pkg. Knorr Spring Vegetable soup mix (dry)
Mix all together and chill.
Good with chips, veggies, and even to dip those wings!
For anyone new at veggie gardening,
let me just say that tomatoes are the trickiest to grow. I believe cherry tomatoes are easier than the big kind.
Green beans: If you have heard of pole beans and bush beans and wondered what the difference is, it's not be beans but the growth habit. Bush beans grow lower to the ground and pole beans climb up something. Pole beans are nice if you don't want to have to bend over as much during harvesting. For the lazy gardener, you can even let pole beans grow up corn you are growing in the same space.
I learned these tips from watching Paul James' show, Gardening by the Yard.
Veggie burgers
Boca veggie burgers are really delicious spread with a little pesto sauce, topped with tomato slices and red onion. Also you can try Googling Bethenny Frankel - I believe she has some great vegetarian recipes that are quick and easy.
My last MIL cooked everything on wood stove
and things were delicious. She never had electric nor gas and probably would have never wanted one. How she did it, I will never know. She cooked everything from collard greens to breads such as biscuits and cornbread. Yum, yum.
It should be fine as long as it is cooked.

1. Stuffing cooked in turkey!
2. Sweet potato casserole.
3. Fruit salad.
we usually also have homemade rolls, another vegetable and cranberry sauce, sometimes mashed potatoes with the gravy too...
i love the homemade chunky cranberry sauce, but no one else does...
It says the bacon is cooked and drained.
I almost missed that part, too - reading too fast.
I love this cats will wrap you around their paws,
mine already have me like that. Did not take long. That was a really cute quote! I call them my furkids, 3 of those babies. Hubby asking me how old they have to be before I quit calling them babies- the answer is never!
Boys wrap their moms around their fingers too
Apparently you, for example......I know moms of boys and sometimes I think some of them are delusional about their *boys/men*.....I don't know - I surely just don't get it.....as much as I try to get it.....
I looooove Cream of Wheat! thanks for sharing nm

you can wrap them in alu foil and put them into the oven (preheated).....
But then they do not come out crispy, rather soggy, but good, nevertheless.
Ham, baked potatoes, veggie.

I may try a veggie garden this year too.
in the past i have not had time to keep up with one but i think i will this year while working at home for MQ. maybe you have tried everything for your garden eaters, don't know but I have heard you can sprinkle black pepper all over the garden and it will keep a lot of animals out bc they do not like the smell. you have to reapply with rain but it might be worth a try.
i normally have flowers galore! but i may do some veggies this year as you said they are getting SO expensive in the stores. i have had great luck with barrel gardens in the past and they look really nice on a patio.
set out a premade veggie tray with dip, can buy
in almost any grocery store already made up. Want something fancy, take it out of the plastic container and put it on your own tray. This should satisfy most everyone. Most all kids will even eat carrot sticks.

I have a big canner of veggie soup cooking
and it smells yummy. Tonight is a parade in town and dinner at my parent's. Not sure about tomorrow. Church and then who knows. I have 2 movies to watch from Netflix and a newsletter to get ready to mail.
I also cooked mine for a short time and then put them in the oven and
from time to time would baste with sauce. I had the oven low and cooked them slowly and they were wonderful. My family just loved them when I invited them over for dinner. You made me hungry for them. It has been a long time since I made them. Mine were not fancy, just good!!! Good luck!
Cooked on the grill, loaded with everything but the kitchen sink. LOL. nm

I'm getting ready to make a boxed cake mix, but I'm out of veggie oil
Can I substitute melted margarine for the oil? I don't have any applesauce. I do have some Miracle Whip, but wasn't sure about it. I don't want to go to the grocery store. I'm at home alone, kids are gone, I'm working and feeling pretty productive, and then BAM the PMS chocolate attack strikes and and me without a Hershey bar in sight! So I thought I would whip up a devil's food cake mix and get back to work.
Just wrap the key in foil and use a blob of silicone from a tube and glue it on. Under blade

Get weaning food at PetStore, use a syringe, feed the formula, cooked veggies SM
I looked on Google and got totally carried away reading about the lovebirds. One thing, if your birds are hand-fed they will be much better pets, will allow you to handle them when they are grown. If you have no dogs or cats, you might even let them have a birdie playground on top of the cage, but that's for somebody who has really worked with the little guys since Day One of life. Have Fun!

mac 'n cheese
Here's the one I use...it's yummy...enjoy!
1 box, about 8 ounces or so, of elbow mac noodles
shredded cheese (I use the 4 cheese blend usually) about 2 cups...
1 small can evaporated milk
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 egg
salt & pepper
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook noodles until mostly done, but not all the way;drain. Mix in a large bowl the cheddar cheese soup, evaporated milk, and egg. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the noodles in with the soup mixture (I usually cool my noodles a bit before adding by running under cool water for a minute or 2). Don't add too many noodles or the mac 'n cheese will be dry.
Spray a round, deep casserole dish with nonstick spray. Add a layer of noodle mix, top with cheese; repeat with another layer of noodle mix and top with remaining cheese. Don't skimp on the cheese either! Add about a cup to each layer, depending on how much you like cheese (we love it)! Bake for about 30 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the casserole is bubbly.
It's seriously delicious. It's the only recipe my whole family uses for mac 'n cheese!
mac/cheese
Try adding some dry mustard. It was in one recipe I had and it really helped.
