Good Search engine
Hi Folks,
I am wonderng how many MTs know about the search engine Good Search. This is a search engine like Google but it is really neat because for every search 1 penny is donated to the not-for-profit group of your choice. You can pick out the group you would like your donations to go through by clicking on the letter of the alphabet and searching for your charity.
Of course I hope you will choose the group I volunteer with which is Pet Rescue By Judy, http://www.petrescuebyjudy.com
At any rate, this is a wonderful way for MTs to donate money to charity without any real effort on our parts and since there are so many of us we really have a great opportunity to help these groups. You can still use your other search engines but any clicks for charity over on GoodSearch will help! You can also use it when you do online shopping, say for instance on eBay. If you go to GoodSearch and just click on the shopping icon and then on eBay, you can shop as usual but a percentage will be paid to the charity of your choice and it does not cost you anything. They have many places participating in their shopping program.
Thanks for considering this
Pat
What about a rebuilt engine? If that won't work...sm
If you have a husband, SO, or brother etc that is handy with tools, put an ad in your local paper and part the car out. Or just have the tools handy and let the people take off the parts they want themselves. Most salvage places will only give you maybe $100 at the most for your car.
If you have a local scrap yard or salvage yard, get the car down there. If your car is a 2003, then the engine block is most likely aluminum, the catalytic converter has platinum in it, and unless you have fancy alloy rims, the metal that rims are made out of is worth something too. And the radiator has copper piping in it. The salvage yard can give you the prices per ton of all the parts of your car from the engine block and tranny to the rims of the tires. The only fly in the ointment is the fact that unless you strip the car yourself, you won't get as much out of it if the salvage yard has to strip it down. They like whatever they take to be "clean." Either way, you would be AMAZED at what you can take to the salvage yard and what they will pay. We took our 1992 Ranger down there after it got totaled in an accident. We made approximately $1,700 off it. Good luck.
I think goodsearch's search engine is YAHOO
.
If it can't be saved by a rebuilt engine, consider a scrap yard. sm
If you have a husband, SO, or brother, etc that is handy with tools, put an ad in your local paper and part it out. Or you can take it to your local scrap yard. They would take it off your hands. If it is a 2003, the engine block would most likely be aluminum, the catalytic converter has platinum in it, the rims are probably metal of some sort. You would be amazed what your local scrap yard takes. Plus you get money for it too. If you call, they can give you the price per ton for aluminum, steel, etc. We did that to our truck and made approx $1,500 when all was said and done. The only catch is that if they have to take it apart, you will not get as much for everything than if you take it apart. But that is something to consider. Good luck.
I blew the engine in my truck 7 days after the warranty expired! $7,000 to replace. :( -n/m

Progressive. Try them for a quote.
State Farm dropped my brother and I from my parents for speeding tickets when we were both 16. I went with Progressive. It was a higher premium, but at least I was insured, which is most important. In our state though, you lose your license for a DUI. It is a shame they dropped you as the parent.
Love that quote!!!
I will have to remember that one! Thanks for your post.
That is "love your quote" - DUH! LOL
nm
How 'bout this quote:
Gentlemen, please, rest your sphincters.
Thanks, I will get a quote on their website. (nm)

That's supposed to be quote. Sorry.
nm
this is actually the worst, I quote:
'.......Aren't boomer women great? They know how to solve a man's mid-life crisis without even breaking a sweat!'
This is so ridiculing and portraying the woman as cold and materialistic.
Here's the "Rainbow Bridge" quote (sm)
I personally don't believe in a god or an afterlife, but this little story makes a lot of people feel better when their animal passes, and if that can bring comfort to someone in a time of grief, I'm all for it.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... "
Another heaven quote I love!!
Perspective on Death:
Death is God carrying us in one arm while the other flings aside heaven's door to welcome us back to the blazing hearth of our first home
.... while those inside, having arrived before us, rush to the door like glad children shouting, "They're here!"
Death has a bad name on earth but in heaven it's a homecoming party everytime the door opens.
God does not forget those earthbound children, sad and left behind.
God leaves the party early to enter into their despair and to get them ready for their own parties SOME DAY!

Nice quote! I will remember this one. nm
!
Can you name a movie, and then write a quote or two from it?
Jerry Maguire..."show me the money" and "you had me at 'hello.'"
In reply to your post where you stated, and I quote: (sm)
"I think that is why pharmaceutical companies are in the business (reference to to making money) or am I missing something here? "IMO, yes, you are missing something. IMO, Pharmaceutial Companies and the medications they produce save millions of lives each year, as well as allowing ill people to lead productive lives, improve their quality of life, as well as extended their life. While I do agree with your statement regarding making money, I believe wholeheartedly that medications save and extend peoples' lives.
I'm waiting for a quote from Tom Cruise to surface, being he's the expert on EVERYTHING. nm

Funny thing....I will never forget reading a quote from Yoko Ono sm
When asked why she never smiled, she said her parents had told her, "Smiling is for shopkeepers."
Well, obviously not this one!
Of course, but only with a pagan symbol avatar/picture and quote of an "incantation" : D
