months ago. We wanted to adopt a chocolate lab puppy from a rescue group. The rescue group had just recovered a group of dogs and puppies that were severely starved and neglected. A few of the dogs did not make it. We also had to fill out the application, had a phone interview, and then a member of the group came to our home to check us out. We also had to sign a form stating that we would neuter the dog (which they later reimbursed) and if for any reason we could not keep him, we would return him to the rescue group. I know it sounds like they're putting you through a lot (as you said, like adopting a child rather than a dog) but, in my opinion, it shows that they are serious about finding good homes for these dogs and are being selective (unless some breeders). I did not mind at all that they came to our home to check us out. There are just too many people out there who should not own animals.
