first in 1998, I was 45, not a really big one, but left side was totally dead, but it did come back. Just some weakness there is all. The second was just last December, I had it in my sleep and was not even aware. I woke up and thought I had pinched a nerve in my arm, it just didn't quite feel right. Luckily, I had a routine doc appointment that day with my rheumatologist, so I told him, he checked me out and made me go to the neurologist, who put me in the MRI which showed a mini stroke. All function is back, I notice some residual myself, but nothing anyone else would notice. I think it really all depends on how massive the stroke is and how fast treatment is rendered. I do know someone who in early 50s had a massive stroke and has not gained back function, that was about 4 years ago, so I guess it all depends on a lot of things. Can't really say for sure with your dad, just advise to see what the docs say.

Anyone with knowledge of strokes? (sm)
My father had a stroke two weeks ago and did not tell anyone - he lives an hour away and I had not seen him - I had talked to him quite a few times on the phone and he kept saying everything was great. He has a roommate and apparently had told the roommate not to tell me. So when I saw him in person Friday night, he told me. It was not really obvious at that time, except when I saw him walk in front of me I noticed one of his legs seemed to drag a little. I pleaded with him to go home with me and let me take him to a doctor. But he kept insisting that he was not going to go, that it was two weeks ago and he was okay. Finally on Monday, my brother (in Florida) convinced him to let me take him to the doctor, so he said he would let me take him on Tuesday (yesterday) after he got a haircut and got all of his things in order. Well, Monday evening he got a terrible headache and a pins and needles feeling and his roommate took him to the ER where I met them. By this time he could barely walk and had severe shaking in his left leg and arm. He had another mild stroke yesterday evening. He cannot even walk with the aid of a walker. Here is my question: Once a person loses function due to stroke can they ever get any of the function back or is it permanent? Can rehab help them like it helps accident victims?
It's just another example of "Diff'rent strokes
It's all about individual choice, and each person's lifestyle choice, whether it's marriage or living together, birth choices (such as whether to go through with it or not), same-sex marriage, etc. are all personal choices. What matters is how people conduct themselves in their lives, and how they choose to use their time on earth.
