Whether cats or dogs, I put food down and then dozens more appear. I just can't stand watching them starve. Of course, one day while it was raining, I went by to put food down near a county dumpster and a little female calico came running up to me (very unusual for a feral). She was so hungry. I picked her up and she looked like just a kitten but I knew she was very sick. Her lymph nodes were swollen all over her body and she could barely swallow because of those in her neck. I couldn't leave her. I took her to my vet but he said she was actually several years old and was so far gone with lymphoma, treatment probably wouldn't work. I had her put down; I just couldn't bear her suffering a miserable death at that dumpster. I still get teary thinking about her but I like to think maybe that's why she ran up to me; she just couldn't take it anymore.

As you know, where there's 1, there's probably LOTS LOTS more!

I have put food out in the middle of a parking lot on many occasions for stray dogs; I just can't stand to know they're hungry.
